The only mmo's worth playing are those with sub. Subscriptions are the great equalizer, and what guarantees that I'll be having the same ingame opportunities to reach my ingame goals as everyone who is standing next to me. I will never, ever play a F2P game.
Of course there are games like ESO, that have both sub and cash shop. That's so ridiculous that I don't even know how some people even fell in the trap.
I am very happily paying for FFXIV. One fee, all the game. No gated content. No limitations on gear or inventory. Play as much or as little as I want.
In my opinion, no. Why? Because it just isnt that good. I dont know, but just does not feel finnished to me. ArcheAge is a game still under development, and its a game that will go F2P. I will be paying for the VIP (subscription) status for that, definitely.

$500m on Destiny whaaaaaaaaat. Love how people believe the facts their minds create.

To be honest there is just a single thing in their "cash shop", one not very good mount. Its nothing extra ordinary , WoW as a sub based game did the same years ago.
Only reason they have a cashshop item is because people cried about the imperial edition having a horse so they added a horse mount in the cashshop for people to buy without having to buy the expansive edition of the game.
Is this game (or any game for that matter) really worth a $15 monthly sub?
I say no.
After playing barely 4 hours in beta I say ... YES.
But I agree if Wow charges for that marvel of gaming perfection ... others should charge lower.
With a plethora of great games going (successfully) to non-subscription marketing while still avoiding the pay-to-win nightmare, I dont see how NC Soft will pull this off for long before at least adding in a F2P option.
Seriously, they did it with GW and GW2, why not this game?
The only sub MMO thats stood the test of time successfully is WOW and, well... its WOW.
Not touching this one until they at least remove the sub, I dont mind paying the game price, but times are changing and subs are a thing of the past.
Subs are thing of past for trash games, not for good one. And I will always prefer sub over f2p and 2pw, because f2p usually translates to p2w via various shops.
To me any mmo I truly enjoy playing is worth the sub if only to keep out the cash shop. Even if the cash shop is just cosmetics I know I will not play long. I really cannot enjoy my time in game when everyone is running around in their super sweet fire armor of doom they purchased for 15.99 in the cash shop.
I'm still on the fence. On the one hand, it has really nice, feature-rich housing. And I love me some decorating. On the other hand, Everquest Landmark has even better housing for (currently) the one time price of $20.
Torn. Really torn. But...Chua!
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.
I keep saying to people if you enjoy the game why would you even question payment. When you think about it 1 movie would cost me about $20 (this is the price for a new release in Australia) and only give me about 2hr of entertainment, but you are paying $15 a month for hours on top of hours of entertainment. Why do you need other people's opinion? Is it that hard to try the game and decide for yourself.

there is a huge difference here. WoW didnt launch (correct me if im wrong) with a cash shop of any size. Also, While it sucks that WoW has a mount/pet cash shop, you dont need them in order to have a cool mount. WoW is full of really cool mounts that only cost gold. What about ESO? well, if you are not an imperial edition user you have to buy a crappy horse in the cash shop because the gold price is outrageously high on purpose for the same reason, to make you shell out more cash.
After the beta, I'm going to go with my gut and say no. If it happens to fall under some other payment scheme in the future or gets rid of its inherent limitations in-game though, I'd still play it. A good game, hardly a great game.

Well yes, but...Netflix. Same price as an MMO. What if I use it and enjoy it more? Of course it always depends on the fatness or thinness of a person's wallet, doesn't it? If it's not a choice for you between one form of entertainment or another because you can afford both, then you aren't in the same position as someone like me, who must choose. Netflix? An MMO? A movie once a month that is more entertaining than a particular MMO was all month? A trip to the bookstore? The used bookstore for four books a month?
Don't get me wrong, though, MMOs are a very cheap form of entertainment. It's not like we're talking trip around the world prices here.
But to some extent, the less money one has, the more value one wants for it.

How about games NC Soft has already produced such as GW and GW2 just for starters. Then theres Rift, EQ2, STO, LOTRO, the list goes on and on.
Its harder to actually find a sub game these days that dosent at least offer a F2P option.
Again, with the exception of WOW.
Well WoW have just been lucky that is but lately the have add cash shop button into WoW and the sell for lvl 90 boots for €50 and what say that will stop there honest and you say WoW is worth pay subscribe fee + pay extra real money for thing beside WoW is lost subscribe every day for people dont like idea of 1st pay subscribe fee then get milk for more for move there char from dead server for blizzard take there sweet time with cross realm server hook up for it is bad for busy in there eyes blizzard is now days only interested of make money and it show in game also the quality of is get bad the only focus on end game content it show in lvl zone the dont care about low lvl zone anymore.
So yeah if like to get rip off by blizzard go ahead to play WoW but honest i dont like WS and i that is why i not go to play clone version of WoW for that is basically what WS is by with better gfx and WS bring nothing new to table.

WoW the only sub mmo that stood the test of time? What? FFXI released for alot longer and is still sub without any cash shop like WoW has at the moment and it doesn't have the userbase WoW has. MMOs don't need the numbers of WoW to turn a profit with a subscription model.
Personally I think the f2p model is interesting and if figured out right will be quite beneficial for developer and players alike but at the moment I prefer monthly sub games. At least where I can see where my money goes like FFXIV big updates every 2 month and wildstar plans to have content updates every month.Which currently to me sounds a bit too ambitious but hey let's see if they pull it of.
Now to answer the original question: Is Wildstar worth a sub? On paper with planned monthly updates. Sure! In reality ask me again when I have a max level char and a bit more playtime on my hands. But the first impression is positive.

Play Wildstar then say there is nothing new. Just because you level to 50 doesn't mean the experience is not different along the way.

Blizzard invests the least? On what evidence is this statement based on? They keep the money they make? What a concept.
I love WS. I like the kind of content and the gameplay. I like also the Dev team a lot. I ll be there at launch with my ingame and real life friends, but when it comes to renewal my sub it depends on how fast the content additions will be.
If they keep their promise about content every month (they already announced the first patch which among others will contain a new area with bosses, zone events etc for 28 of june) and this content isn't only daily quest crap, but zones, dungeons, bosses, raids, zone events, arenas, bg's then i ll be happy to continue subbing.
If they go to a WoW model playing a patch for almost a year, then i ll be off sooner or later, as i did with WoW.
So for me when it comes to a sub renew for a mmo, quality of added content + the pace of content addition are my criteria to continue my sub or not.

A few years ago this wouldn't even be a discussion because most game had a sub. I like what I've seen so far in wild star and pay a sub just means more money for them to pour back into the game. I'm going to say between wild star and ESO your looking at the new WoW. I think they have a chance to make a cool game . Something different not dragons and orcs but some science fiction stuff in a few months this game will be huge I see it it's got the look it's got the, from what I've seen and read it's got everything right. No waiting for player housing, I say it again in a few month once they get their bearings this game will kick ass.
