I fail to see what is so revolutionary or (wheel re-invented LOL to people who say this) about this game.  Even if you look past the perpetual comic book strip feel to everything in the game, I don't see anything that says "this is new".  There are still quest hubs (which people seem to hate but w/e), the combat system is no revolutionary in the slightest, it's an overused telegraph system - nothing exciting there.

The combat is smoother than typical MMOs (WoW had and still has the best feel and flow to combat - sorry WoW haters), sure, but that doesn't make up for how they decided to make everything a telegraph, that's not exciting, different or revolutionary at all.  It truly does have a distinct WoW flavor to it and if they aren't able to shake that then they are going to constantly fight WoW for players and that's not a good thing.

It absolutely is a good thing, competition encourages investment.

Re wow, cooldown bars and grids over telegraphs - really?

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

I gave Wildstar a try during their open beta session and i can say it's a fun game, but it's price tag is too high for me, i may give the game another look when the price is more affordable.

Regardless of how this article is trying to put down how numbered scores are interpreted by the general population, and that a 70's score is not necessarily a bad thing, I fear this game will not make it anyway. Not because it is bad, or not fun, but because there is too many high level competition. Like every other MMORPG having been released after WOW, this one too will struggle to maintain a viable player base, especially since it is released right in the rather turbulent wake of ESO. By the way let me downgrade that ' will not make it' part, it will probably become free to play  after a while with its own modest base of loyalists, but right now, for me it offers too little over WOW, GW2 and ESO to be a true competitor for my money.

Im sure Wildstar will follow the typical MMO pattern:

    Alpha: greatest game ever

    Beta: greatest game ever

open beta: eh still a good game but has some flaws

    release: great for a month

6 months after launch: free to play with dwindling pop and oh this game isnt very good

The moment I saw the developer videos of how proud they were about their telegraph mechanics I already had the feeling the game brings absolutely nothing interesting to the table. Their supposedly best feature is actually the worst idea to design combat around for so many reasons.

The one thing Wildstar did right are some of the rather funny dev speak and other introductional videos. Kinda expected a similar experience when I tried the beta. Again a case of a tasty looking lure on a hollow fishing rod.

I guess there's really no pleasing people. I wish they would get together and decide what they want because this is the best MMO I've seen in ages and I've played a ton. I get we all have different tastes but they've implemented so many cool things in this game that I think people just gloss over because of things like the art or that their FPS are not topping out at 120. Yeah it looks like wow and the art feel is cartoony, who cares? I prefer cartoony looking mmo's and games, they age better.

I'm probably on fan boy status now since I played beta, I pre ordered one for me and my buddy and I plan on subbing for a while. I was going to completely pass this over as I thought it was an old tired design but it's just fun to play . I love so many aspects of this game.

The auction house has some amazing choices for selecting gear by stats you like. You can redistribute stats on items, theres player housing with thigns that actually do things for you and your friends, the war plots look amazing like TFC put into an MMO with a little bit of tower defense.  The raids look huge like old wow days. The combat is frantic and fast paced and you really have to move your ass to stay alive.

The characters and story are interesting and it's got lore that kind of grabbed me right out of the box, where as I tried so hard to get into the lore of other games and failed.

The game comes with an addon studio when you download it but they have so much customization it's hard to think of what you would need to develop besides a sell junk button, which someone has already developed. I love that you can make addons right from the start and that there are already 150 on curse. that's just me though.

The paths offer new ways to get players to explore content and give options for convenient player skills to everyone like summoning friends, portals to major cities, or summoning a vendor etc.

The skills really feel different and the telegraph system, which I thought I was going to hate, is actually fun to work with and gives a nice aiming system to an mmo while also allowing reasons to dodge, that I never found useful, like in GW2.

The classes are fun to play.

The game is very tongue in Cheek and has a real Bruce Campbell feel to if you know what I mean. It's over the top and comic booky at times. It's got it's own feel and flavor and they stick with that in everything they do.

I thought I was going to love TESO and I hated it. I thought I was going to be bored with this and I loved it. I can't get enough of this game.

To each their own. But for people that are saying they feel this is dated and they want something new I wish I knew what they meant. Go play something other than MMO's because maybe that's your problem? Go play minecraft or wait for EQ next. Sandbox can be fun but usually not giving the players and direction just ends up with a bunch of players not sure waht to do and just standing around doing nothing.

Seeing some hate about the telegraph system, and I just don't understand it. It gives you opportunities to use active dodge in a very real and effective manner. It also injects some skill into PvP in the form of aiming/juking.

I could understand reservations about how reliable this system might be in very large-scale PvP where lag could adversely affect it, but in the Battlegrounds.. It's different, it's active, and it injects skill into a genre where, traditionally, you could overpower skill easily with phat lewtz and tab targetting. I cannot fathom how some would find that an objectively negative thing. Maybe not your personal taste.. But objectively bad? No.

Metacritic? Somewhere between 7.6 - 8 i guess, probably more, it's a good game, fun, fresh, adrenaline-inducing, and exciting, I was never felt so good on MMO before, unfortunately it required several finesse with fingers, combine that with my crappy internet connection it's virtually unplayable as tank or healer on dungeon

"The artwork will be the least divisive topic."

Not sure how you came to that conclusion, but I think you're dead wrong. I think the art will be very divisive for many persons, maybe especially older ones. A lot pf people, myself included, are really turned off by that cartoony style. I know many out there will be quick to respond that that's a shallow attitude, but I think that kind of reaction is slightly ridiculous. I mean, a HUGE part of any video game is of course having to look at it, and if you're staring at something for hours at a time that is visually a turn-off to you, then that kind of is a big deal. Having said that, though, I might still break down and buy the game, and do my best to try to let it "grow" on me, partially because I'm just really wanting to play a non-WoW MMO that has a decent population and is all-around pretty good.  ;)

As most people here I agree giving numbers to games is misleading, people should read many reviews, play a demo if possible, watch gameplay footage and then make their mind up.

I personally think that while WS uses many mechanics from the old world of gaming it does what Apple did with the humble mobile phone; they are making it fun. I defy anyone to watch the raiding dev speak and not get totally onboard.

This game is going to knock the socks off everything else to date and I for one can't wait to get started.
