IF a game needs to reward you for group play for there to be people taking part in group play, it's not a game problem it's a community problem.
It is all about structure. If a game isn't structured for grouping people wont do it.
ESO is the perfect example of that.
WS is structured like solo game with group options. Just like any other game. Absolutely nothing new or never seen before.
I disagree. Most games lately are all about solo questing and story telling with cut scenes. Wildstar focus almost entirely on grouping after level 15.
You can disagree all you want, its not like people didnt play it so someone needs to tell them how it is lol
That's my whole point. People did play it.
they played it by themselves up to level 10 or so, and didn't experience where the game is strongest.
I think it was important to hear an opinion from someone who has played the game from my perspective; not quested to lvl 10 and stopped.
You cant group before level 10? Is that what youre saying?
Or you cannot advance past level 15 unless you group? Is thst what aoure saying?
What I am saying is, grouping is really pointless in most games lately. Everyone is just doing their own thing walking past you, like card board scenery.
In WS, grouping in general, either taking on high level mobs in the open world, doing 3 mans 5 mans or full dungeons, what ever it may be, is fun, worthwhile and where the game is focused.
WS really put this part of the game first, and im not talking about strangers next to eachother, meaningful grouping.
Really?
At this point i just see completely fresh account trying to sell cookie cutter themepark MMO as something completely new and never seen before, therefore ill just leave you to it lol
All I did was express an opinion on an aspect of the game that I feel has been overlooked on this forum from kneejerk "reviews," if you even want to call them that.
you are the one getting upset over a post about an opinion on gameplay
you are trying to convince people of something way harder than I am. Quite childishly I might add.
I usually just read on here and don’t post, But I felt tempted to write.
I have been reading a lot of posts on here that say “I got to level 10, when does this game get fun,”
“This game is on rails,” “more of the same questing.”
I am not trying to sell this game to anyone, because it has a lot of aspects that some people might not like. Playing this game to level 10, by yourself, and giving your opinion just isn’t fair.
This game has a lot that MMO gamers have been wanting for quite a while. I have been playing a lot of new mmos, most recently ESO and I am sick and tired of the Solo mmorpg.
Wildstar is the exact opposite and focuses almost completely on people who like to group and play with others.
You begin the game in a solo instance, and you have to follow a storyline in the first starter zone. Yes I know. the first 10 levels are linear.. but that is it.. This is just to get the player familiar with the game without distraction, it serves that purpose well.
-
Once you get into the “real” world, you have the choice of doing what you want and leveling how you want. You do not need to do a single quest to get good exp, you don’t need to follow one single story line to progress.
Mobs use the old CON system of yellow, orange, red, purple. You are free to take a group of people and go find a camp of mobs that are red and purple and pull to your heart’s desire. Actually, this is probably the fastest way to level. My guild mates and I found a camp outside Stormtalon lair at lvl 11 and pulled to a safe area in the middle and had a blast. We drank beers and shot the bull on Vent while getting amazing exp just group grinding. Haven't had that kinda fun since EQ.
Ship hands are mini dungeons for grps of 3 that are repeatable with great loot to roll on. Adventures are larger verisons of that for 5, once you hit 20 you can do dungeons .. which are a blast!
I don’t like to solo quest, I don’t like to watch cuts scenes… if you are like me, and play mmos for the social aspect, this game a A LOT to offer. They did not make this game for solo players, if you are a solo player you will find it lacking.
Once you leave the starter zone you can group exclusively, and actually be rewarded for it, not held back.
There is actually a currency called "Renown" you can only earn if you are grouped.
------------------------------
For the TL;DR people: Wildstar is a game catered for people who like to group, if you play this game solo and just quest you will find it dull. remember your roots and start to group up. This game rewards you SIGNIFICANTLY for grouping … finally…., and it is a blast.
Isn’t that what we wanted? An mmo that is social?
The theme is goofy, the graphics are dorky. But if you like to group this game really is for you.
I agree that this game is fun, but not only in groups. I entire game is fun since the recent open beta. I Have been in the beta since Dec, 2013. Back the when I first joined the beta the game was boring, but the devs have listen the community and made changes the quest, combat, UI, and many more things. Now the entire game is hella fun. Probably MMO of the year.

I have no idea about ESO, I only played in it's beta weekends. But as far as this general topic goes, structure really doesn't make much difference either. Look at TOR, AOC, etc... For proof of that ...
TOR was brimming with group content in just about every zone, a good chunk was devoted to strictly group ( heroic) content. Yet everyone always blasts TOR as a solo game.. the same could be said about AOC, every area could be played in group mode. Yet hardly anyone seems to do so...

I think the grouping in this game will be like when I used to group in Everquest. I do not mean the type but the memories. Whenever you have grouping and hard content the stories of how you beat the bosses are stories that will replay in your head over the years like dungeons in Everquest used to in my head.
I think this game will evoke that type of memories in the future. I am so torn. On the one hand I feel I will suck at dodging the telegraphs and also trying to do jump over ledges and stuff but on the other this is exactly the kind of game I want to play. I wish I could get my son to do the jumping bits and I can then just heal the group but I saw them jumping and dodging even during the fights. This looks like some pretty tough shit for me anyway. Old lady with poor reflexes.
I think I will get the game this is too damn good to pass up and practice until I can dodge may be a bit better.
I have no problem grouping in ESO when I join dungeon parties. Problem with ESO is when you try to join a group to do solo stuff, the phasing has issues.
Forcing players to group up to play is not "socialising"; it is just a barrier for players who do not like to group up and do things on their own pace. and just because i don't like grouping up doesn't mean that i don't help people who ar on world trying to kill tough mob or world boss. for example when i am playing rift all i am doing is fishing(yes i love fishing in mmo) all day but that does not mean when there is a zone event going on i don't join it or when my guild wants to run a guild dungeon or guild raid i tell them "no, just fucking leave me alone". each and every mmorpg out in market have lots of social feature; even the so called "greatest solo mmorpg ever' SWToR have it's own social feature. just because a game don't force players to group up to kill "princess the pig level 5 legendary boss"(wow vanilla players i am looking at you) doesn't mean the game has no social aspect or social option.

Most of MMORPG players prefer soloing and most of the casual players doom and gloom a game if it's not fun for the first 10 minutes into the game.
Wildstar has plenty of good features and options on how to play it but unfortunately people are drawn away by the cartoony graphics and horrible first experiences until you hit 6 (if you PvP), 15(if you like easy PvE) and 20(if you enjoy challenging PvE).
In my opinion carbine should've thrown a 5-man dungeon right at the start of the game and let people bitch and moan about the difficulty, atleast they wouldn't be bored.

In the open beta though, I brought my engineer through the teens and began to see variance in the quests. The different things for the settler path to do developed and early in the teens, I did a group mission of sorts where I boarded a ship to a mining facility that I had to investigate. It was dark and I had a helmet with a light on it. I ended up soloing this mission with my bruiser bot and I have to say, it was that which got me interested and hooked on this game again. I simply could not get enough.
The game does have plenty to offer, however, If your primary goal in MMOs is to rush to cap as fast as possible and then think that people are impressed by your virtual accomplishments that hold no weight in the real world, then it is clear why some might dislike this game because they are simply not enjoying it as an experience and rather playing it as an obligated or forced task.

Well they are definately aiming for the hardcore gamers but I wonder if it's enough to pay the bills.
Personally I think they skipped their homework on the "attracting casuals" -part.
However the game has a lot potential so going F2P with "VIP subscription" might work out fine for them.

WoW vanilla had a good combination of solo and group play. Yeah not everything could be done alone so you had to group up to do it, but often there where people around who would help you out.
The problem i have with group play these days is that people have turned rather antisocial. Whenever you are fighting a certain quest mob and he turns out to be a bit to strong for you and you are about to die you see a healer running by, who just waits for you to die so he/she can do that mob for his/her quest and just leaves you there dead instead of healing you while you are fighting the mob or not even resurecting. Yes this happened in WoW vanilla as well but it seems like it has increased way more then back 9 years ago. Just like in WoW PuG's became obnoxious groups to play instances with after a few years. People just have the need to call you all kind of bad names when its your first time in a dungeon and you don't know what is expected from you at bosses, or totally freak out at you as you by accident get the group whipped cause you didn't do the right thing at a boss but no one cared to explain you what you had to do.
I don't mind grouping in games with friends, but over the years i have grown a hatred towards grouping up with strangers and being dependable on people who just play the game for themselves alone. I played SWToR till recently and often when grouping up with strangers they where just ninja looting everything. Yes this happened in the past as well but after so many years of playing MMO's i'm done with that bullcrap.
Just like battleground PvP, people are only there for their own kill count. How often we didn't see it in WoW that people didn't give a F about the objective. Heck WSG you would always see a bunch of people just running to the middle trying to kill people who where walking alone and didn't attack the flagrunner and his group at all. I have to depend on those idiots to win a battleground?
It aren't the games their faults, its just that the MMO player has become to much focused on their own that they don't give a shizzle about the other players in the games.
Still i think there should be a good balance in group and solo play. It gives both parties things to do and i do enjoy PvP when i'm lucky enough to be part of a good random group or playing it with guildmembers and then i see why grouping up is fun. But most random groups just plainly suck, but i could just be unfortunate to run into the idiots.

Easily 9 out of 10 people won't tell you they are new/inexperienced when you start the group.
Then they blame others from having expectations...
First thing I do when a dungeon is new is tell them I have never done it before. If I am suppose to know something about the boss or any of the trash mobs please explain since I am your healer and if I die you might die too. 9 out of 10 times they tell me how the place works and go slow. If it is the tenth case I leave before we start .
I have found many crappy people but using the I talk and explain first method mode I have managed to weed out those people. I had a lovely experience in FFXIV ARR in every dungeon I did and I did some multiple times. We need to talk more folks.

What you just described here is the current condition of how people behave naturally; being in game or real world; everywhere. 10-15 years ago, i saw an epileptic person pass out in middle of street and bystanders just ran to her rescue; took her to a hospital and even paid for her medication; i was one of the persons who helped her. and these days..well you see people have become complete animals now, there is no shred of decency left in this world; no common sense; no sense of respect. the condition of life on earth has become like this, we see it's reflection in our mmo too; it is just that in mmo there is no rule; there is nothing to stop us from being jerks and thus we see more and more of these kind of behavior in mmo. game design or developer competence/incompetence has nothing to do with it.
And as i have written on my post there are more than enough group play and socialising option in every mmo. but most mmo have decided to take serious group play at end game. putting a level 5 legendary boss in low level questing area; no matter how amazing it sounds is nothing more than a bad game design. if devs want to push group based content in low level areas which should be a learning ground for every player, i don't know if i ever want to play that kind of game again.
Boobs are LIFE, Boobs are LOVE, Boobs are JUSTICE, Boobs are mankind's HOPES and DREAMS. People who complain about boobs have lost their humanity.

Yup.
Though many are just afraid to talk. They are afraid of consequences and confrontation that could come out by admiting they are new/clueless so they try to cover it up with silence. But can we really blame anyone for this with the elitistism that gear score treadmill endorses so much?
OP your post has gotten my attention because I honestly did not make that far into the game to see the grouping aspect. If grouping up and just having fun killing mobs for xp and doing dungeons is what Wildstar is designed around I will give it another try. Are there open world dungeons in the game or are they all instanced?

Game doesnt change cookir cutter MMO formula one bit, you act like noone played themepark MMO before lol
Dude, in that respect game isnt special one bit
OMG I can do dugeon at lvl 20! Never seen THAT before. lol SWTOR had heroic quests on starter planets and first flashpoints at lvl 10 (and best ones in the game)
Also has social points as currency for grouping...
And you of all versions of MMO gamers should be the best at cookie cutter themepark. You rarely take part in group play! And in WS group play is highly encouraged, not forced. Dont get mad at OP because he, along with a lot of us, actually enjoy playing MMOs the way they were originally meant to be played, socially.
I hate PVP for the most part. But I wont hesitate to say that there are some titles out there were I thoroughly enjoyed my time Pvp'n....wait for it.....ALONG with guildies, RL buddies, and new friends I made in game.

I actually love solo playing MMOs. I suck at skill, so better bring me solo experience, I don't want people to know that I'm noob.
So, Wildstar sux, please make it more noobish game and count me in!
Grouping is where any MMO shines...
if you want an MMO to truely be memorable, make one that shines at both grouping and solo gameplay...
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
I'm sorry but that's ridiculous.
Not all games have engaging content for groups of people and the ones that do aren't all on the same level.
..Cake..
Just name one MMO where the grouping content is less fun then the soloing part of the game?

Noone was comparing solo to group content. You said that any mmo has good group content.
That's not the case. Some mmos do group content much better than others.
For example, im my opinion: Wildstar has exceptional group content. SWTOR or ESO do not.

And you of all versions of MMO gamers should be the best at cookie cutter themepark. You rarely take part in group play! And in WS group play is highly encouraged, not forced. Dont get mad at OP because he, along with a lot of us, actually enjoy playing MMOs the way they were originally meant to be played, socially.
I hate PVP for the most part. But I wont hesitate to say that there are some titles out there were I thoroughly enjoyed my time Pvp'n....wait for it.....ALONG with guildies, RL buddies, and new friends I made in game.
