It's funny SOE has done several item sales in which 100% yes 100% of the sale went to charity and yet everyone thinks they're satan.
Carbine gives one lady a laptop and they are Jesus.
It is nice and cool but ultimately it's all PR. Doing that cost them almost nothing especially since Alienware probably gave them the laptop for free or at cost.

Well Carbine hasn't had the chance to tarnish their reputation yet. Sony has and that's what people remember. Maybe Carbine will turn out to be arse holes later on, but for now they showed appreciation to a fan. No need to seem so bitter about it.

Dude his kid is going to boot camp for the national guard not overseas to fight in a war. This is like if they picked my kids going off to college and I'm going to play wildstar. Stupid marketing

Now I give them credit it was pretty cool but the person is bullshit I completely agree with you Nephaerius. I spent 8 years in the military and 3 tours to a combat zone not once have I ever used that for a personal gain, I have no respect for people that use it. National guard and boot camp give me a break that's weak.

It was an honest answer to a social media thing. It wasnt about flaunting anyones military status. Nephaerius has a point, but attacking the person that tweeted this is uncalled for.
Whether you're National Guard, Coast Guard, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Active Duty, or Reserves, you are doing the same overall job, defending the United States of America from all threats foreign and domestic. If push comes to shove, you are the boots on the ground, be it air, land, or sea. Don't diminish this kids service to America because he chose to go National Guard. Every military branch has a job and serves a purpose and he is sacrificing his time in the military for the greater good of America. It may not exactly be the same sacrifice someone makes as an Active Duty Sailor, Soldier, or Marine, but there is a sacrifice made.
So many of you 'thinking' its a great marketing n good business..... for whom?...
they didnt do nothing for me.
Looks to me that wildstar team is just celebrating the game release with its fans!- not recruiting...take your tin hats off please.
respect to the military n their families!
Respect the military? What for? For being mindless sheep following the orders of some evil human being? I do not respect those who do not want to think for themselves and just follow orders without even knowing why.

I hear ya. Just like in football. Why would anyone listen to the calls the quarterback makes? I mean, they should just do their own thing since they have a mind of their own....
While I may agree that I do not care for some of my country's leadership, the military, just like any organization, needs to be organized and follow orders. No sane person naturally wants to charge a machine gun nest, but then again, if everyone refuses, then progress will not be made.
Further, as a vet, I served voluntarily, and willingly signed my name on the line thank you.

I will ask you this. If you were ordered to beat a child, would you question it ( and if deemed wrong not execute the order) or do it because it is an order? Please do not try to twist my words or the question itself, just answer it.
Also, football is a spoort, the quarterback orders in a game. War is not a game.

I agree with syriinx.....
Walic and Neph - the guy going to boot camp isn't getting squat. The guy in the military isn't getting a thing. The military guy didn't use this to his advantage - his dad used it because he is proud of his son (I'd imagine you'd be too) and sad about him leaving home (I'd imagine you'd be too) and is proud of what his is doing (aren't you proud of folks who join the military?)
The gift was for the dad who wanted to keep his mind off his son leaving home.
'this is like if they picked my kids going off to college' - yeah, it is. And my parents cried when I left. Kicking your chicks out of the nest is a HUGE deal for parents - no matter where they go.
And those in the military should respect others entering the military. National Guard or not - they are signing on the dotted line that they will take a bullet for my country.
And there are PLENTY of Nat'l Gaurd folks who have fought in the middle east over the last 10 years.
There are plenty of nat'l gaurd who risk their lives against drug runners and other domestic confrontations.
And lastly - how the hell do you know what is going to happen next year?
You say it is weak because he isn't going overseas to war. What if you had said that on Sept. 10, 2001? You have no idea what tomorrow will bring and you should respect that this guy signed up, just like anyone in the military, prepared to die tomorrow for America.

Dying for America? most likely killing innocents for the greed of the evil leaders . Can you americans be any more naive than this? I never went with the saying that americans are stupid by default, but dude, take some lego pieces and build some integrity.
I hate the american Military, they act like surpressors in foreign countries. They show no respect for other cultures and behave like an elephant in a room full of glass. But nevertheless i think it was a good idea to choose this woman, i can understand her feelings about her kid leaving the house for quite a time. And i also donated, it´s unbelievable that such surgery is not paid by insurance, does healthcare in the states cover anything ?? Fortunately i live in a country where such bullshit is not possible.

To answer directly, no.
Don't get me wrong, I would not support the military if our country became something akin to the Nazis. I, like many Germans in WW2, would oppose it as my worldview is in opposition to that. In fact all the attempts on Hitler's life were by Germans. A good read on this is the life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
That said, let's not derail the thread. I do agree in a lot of what you are hitting on, just not the picture you are painting that most US soldiers are evil mindless beasts who will do anything. Of course I have an ontic referent in that my ethics are deeper than social constructs, so I serve a higher order so to speak. Now as our country continues to leave that ontic referent behind, I fear what you are hinting on could become true one day. On that day, I would be echoing what you are saying. However, today is not that day... But I digress.

As nice as it is for Carbine to give a Wildstar fan a gift pack, the whole point of them doing it is a marketing ploy, regardless of the who and the why.
A creative person is motivated by the desire to achieve, not the desire to beat others.

Not sure which country you are from - but I bet you have military, and I bet those that join voluntarily are joining prepared to die for your country. And I bet your country hasn't been exactly morally pristine when it comes to war. And I bet your news casts would still honor their sacrifice.
And just like us, I bet you've been hoodwinked into a cause that served evil leaders and ended innocent lives. And if you don't think all countries have that heart of darkness - who is the one who is naive.
But this is off topic. Guy wrote a tweet and got some prizes - it isn't worth this type of discussion.

Why would you post this in this thread? "HEY LOOK AT ME I DONT LIKE WILDSTAR". You could just create a new topic with that.
