[Column] ArcheAge: Announcements, Experiences & Thoughts on PvP

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Today is the day for more ArcheAge goodness. In my last column I discussed all the different forms of transportation and my encounters with them. This time around we're going to take a moment to talk about my latest experiences with ArcheAge, some announcements, and PvP as much as I understand!

Read more of Jeffrey Lerman's ArcheAge: Announcements, Experiences & Thoughts on PvP.

They were circling you to hope you randomly hit one of them by accident and thereby flagging yourself. Pretty common and cheesy tactic in PVP games for a long time now.

I would like to try this game out.  Have heard it mentioned so many times - never actually read up on it.

Well actually you don't get any honor points killing the other faction unless the zone is in full WAR mode..  during unrest you get nothing..   (i am hoping this is a bug and will be fixed)

I couldn't bare the grind, combat was straight out of  Everquest 2. Jumping quest hubs, running the same old errand boy quest. I am sure the game has more to offer with time invested but didn't make it that far unfortunately. Felt too cheesy with an eastern spin on it.

Archeage is going to be one hell of a mmo.....

it offers what most mmo's seem to lack these days.......FUN

Yeah, very many interesting systems in AA, sadly the 10 year old combat system kinda killed it for me.

As opposed to what,  ESO?  It ain't great but its better than some and as part of the whole package, (hopefully they can work on it) its a good game.  Now if we could get the AoC combat system, you would have me sold.

this game looks like they finally got the "something for everyone" amalgamation right.  my only gripe is the inclusion of some really bizarre art assets (the shark bro above, cars) but i think it might just be an eastern/western thing.  certainly wont dissuade me from trying the game but i know i wil be going ARGH when there is a pepsi machine sitting in my steampunk/fantasy game

RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

Most games have 'something for everyone'.  Its just a question of do the things you like balance out those you dislike.  And with high level content of any type revolving around PvP, the parts I like arent enough.  Also the game world (races, lore, etc) seems sub par.   And there are quite a few others.

Of course there are a lot of pros (for instance, that game world is at least nice and open, a refreshing change from the norm).  But the cons (for me) actually outweigh the pros by a good deal (for me).

Where ArcheAge is going right is that its not trying to please everyone.  I dont like open world PvP?  ArcheAge doesn't care.  And Im actually part of the majority in that regard.  Because AA is willing to not care about that, i bet it does well.  Its clearly a solid game.  Not for me, but I have other games to play until a nice PvE sandbox (with interesting item making) comes along.

And the Landshark makes me think of old school SNL

I think this is to limit the amount of farming that people would do for honor points. I could be wrong but I can see people creating clone accounts to just farm in not WAR zone area's for hours.

You can play the entire game without ever PvPing and progress completely.

Good article. Been level 50 for a while in the alpha, and I actually have no idea what that shark thing is. Pretty big world though. Interesting to see complaints about the combat system. There's basically 2 options these days. Action or tab target. This one is tab target, and I think it works great with both PvE and PvP. Some people just set their expectations a bit high. While PvP is not a requirement - it's a big part of the game if you want to explore. The good news is (for you PvP haters) is that you don't really lose anything when you die. Yet, it can be very engaging. To each their own. I would be sad if they tried to remove PvP from this game. I haven't ganked anyone since hitting 50, and actually prefer to anti-pk now. Then again, i've seen some pretty hardcore ragers who simply can't handle dying even though they didn't lose anything.

I haven't been this engrossed in a game world since eq1.

I said I'd play the alpha casually - that's not happening. Wife & I have been 50 for weeks now (though still levelling some off spec classes for utility/options), and still have so much to do that we actually want to do.

The shark is a Wereshark, they're all around the Sanddeep region.

I have a level 50 on the alpha. the game is amazing. the world is amazing. the ocean looks insane and the tradeskills are tough to level up the higher you go. The main issue i have right now is the balance. I know it`s alpha n all and im optimistic it gets fixed. but as of right now its rock paper scissors (which you can actually play in game).

Archer beats mage, mage beats melee and melee beat archers. That is how it is at this moment. and some people might argue that`s not true. but it really is. im in the pirate guild on the server and ive pvpd since 30 and a lot at 50. and it`s the way it is.

After reading this article... all I have to say is.... Shark People.... Seriously.... bipedal shark dudes.... what the hell?
  • marremurtmarremurt Member UncommonPosts: 45

this game sounds awesome in articles but it failed in China and RU version.

Its 99% of botters and the economy failed too.

Pvp failing too, areas where only the protection faction can attack, and if they attack same target the enemy team cannot defend the attacked person, after all only the attacked can defend himself against those attackers.

Always sounds good on mmo articles, but when you play it you will see the different.

Excpet for the crappy Faction chat, it is a good game mix of UO-PvP and farmville. If they change how someone is flagged to be in PvP (if someone in your group is attacked, eg), it will be a very good PvP game.
