3 Reasons People Should Consider Playing Wildstar - that I haven't seen Discussed:
Self Critical Development team with transparency and open communication:
Almost every single MMO I've played for the past 5 years has had a development team that fails horribly at being self critical and communicating openly with the players. Zenimax and ESO kept people in the dark for days when there was unexpected downtime, and blatantly ignored abusive bugs like the dupe bug which had been posted on the forums multiple times for months.
Every single MMO that has been released in the past 5-10 years has been flip of the coin as to whether or not the progression system was entertaining or not... some of them, such as SWTOR, nailed it spot on and had probably the best leveling experience in existence. Others, failed horribly and it was a total grind.... ALL of them completely dropped the ball on end game content though.
Leveling, at the end of the day, is a temporary state of being that almost all MMO players have done multiple times across multiple games. Unlike a single player game.. the longevity of MMOs typically revolves around what there is to do once leveling is done. All recent MMO's have had little to nothing to do.. specifically no end game progression system related to Dungeons or Raiding.
Usually the response is "We'll be rolling out a content update shortly after launch that has our end game progression system"... which in reality ends up with a bunch of bored people sitting around doing nothing as they have to wait for 1-2 months for the next challenge. This isn't sustainable as gamers by nature are fickle creatures... thus.. this has failed over and over.
Wildstar, was developed upside down... so, I realize that leveling is temporary and know it's going to be rather boring.. it's not SWTOR... but the game will go out the door with an end game progression system in place. So I know I will not waste 1-3 weeks on leveling only to hit a brick wall of end game nothingness.
Customizable UI with healthy dev community:
Customizable UI's are nothing new, and quite a few games have them nowadays... but a number of them actually do not. I consider it a failure for developers to force their idea of a "window" into another world on a player. Not only does Wildstar have a very customizable UI, it has a healthy and very friendly community of developers already turning out a pretty large database of Add-Ons - pretty much anything you want to tweak to consume the world in a way that's more meaningful and easier to absorb, exists and you can download install these add-ons with ease.
Originally posted by Dreamo84 The more I play Wildstar the more I realize it doesn't look anything like WoW. It's actually far more animated than WoW. WoW is pretty colorful but it's actually very dark and brutal in a lot of ways.
I have been playing a bit of WoW while I wait for Wildstar. I must say they offer completely different experiences in general.
The only real similar thing is quest hubs.....and that is pretty much in every MMO.
(Those wanting quest hubs to die have a rude awaking, at least until an MMO is released with actual Dynamic events. Not wannabe dynamic.)
"The partially cartoon-style visuals offer enough individuality to stand out from the Guild Wars 2’s and Elder Scrolls’ of the world, while the aesthetics are different enough to not be labeled a WoW-clone, at least not out of the gate."
First of all, Guild Wars 2 and Elder Scrolls Online have completely different graphics from each other, if you have played them, you would know.
Second, the graphics in Wildstar are so similar to WoW that makes somebody wonder if they stole them from Blizzard. This is definitely a WoW-clone (in many more ways that just the graphics), like it or not.
And don't tell me that "housing", something that WoW doesn't have, makes the game not a WoW-clone, yes it does have 3 different things from WoW, but that's it, it has just 3 different things.

First of all, he never said that GW2 and ESO were the same graphically, just that Wildstar wasn't like EITHER OF THEM....which you would know if you could read English or take that assuming thing and ditch it.
And the "wOw clone" crying is really getting as old as....wOw......
I enjoyed playing Wildstar during the beta but ultimately, did not purchase this game. While the game is definitely AAA quality, I found it to ultimately be too similar to other games that I have already been playing for years.
There's a good chance most people didn't even read the article and were chomping at the bit to perform their daily "talk crap about a game I know nothing about" routine.
After looking at some comments, I can clearly tell you didn't read the article or you don't really understand English.
Releasing with a ridiculous amount of content for all sorts of player types.

I have to bring this point being said over and over again into question, how so? This would imply something like SWG... I know that's certainly not the case. Don't all of these paths essentially lead to the same exact type of "game-play" quests and combat? What other forms of "game-play" are there in wildstar? If they existed I'd assume that would have been reason number one, it wasn't.
Do you like PvP? THere are battlegrounds, arenas and warplots.
Are you a PvE quest guy? There are quests all OVER the place, and they tell a pretty decent story from zone to zone.
Like crafting perhaps? The crafting is a lot of fun, perhaps not as deep as SWG players are used to, but much more interesting than WoW crafting. Plus the gathering is interesting as well, with the occasional "surprise" node turning up.
Fan of housing? The best housing in an MMO ever, at least in all the MMOs I have seen.
You're a serious raider? The hardest raids I have yet experienced, and well worth the effort required to participate.
And there's a bunch of stuff I didn't touch on too, and all of it available on release.
I don't recall another MMO with as much or more on release.
T
Everything aside from housing you described though is akin to typical themepark play. Housing is akin to LOTOR or daoc with it's instanced/zoned approach (not counting the level of customization). I still don't really see different playstyles accounted for, just different rides to ride, that all lead to the same type of game-play.
Quests, PVP arenas/bgs, raids, crafting and dungeons, what themepark didn't release with all of this aside from ESO?

Every time I read the excessively negative, almost vitriolic (look it up) comments that follow an MMO-based opinion piece, I have to laugh. Seriously, people, the greater majority of players neither read your crap or give a rat's ass what you think. They will either play a game because they like it or they'll avoid it because they don't.
But hey, keep spinning your wheels. Eventually someone might actually care.

Originally posted by Tykam123 I would LOVE to play it for those reasons and more....but it does not work well on my computer. I am actually quite confused as to why not. I played ESO with no issues, WoW I play on ultra, Rift I play on ultra, Swtor I play on ultra, GW2 I think I play on at least high. Wth makes Wildstar so much harder to run? The graphics arent amazing by no means, as much as they are "artsy". I also spent $70 on the freakin digital deluxe.
Unique style and personality? Does escorting broccoli and planting seeds = personality? As far as style, I remember seeing this style in abundance back in 2004. Oh and we have very different interpretations of "funny."
Housing? People actually care about instanced housing? Persistent housing like Archeage, yeah, that's a selling point.
Player customization? I didn't notice anything special about the hordes of clones that looked exactly like my character. Besides, even my end-game pixelated Terraria character is unique compared to others I've seen--why is WS different from any other game?
Action combat? No, WS has GW2's hybrid action combat. TERA has action combat.
Smart subscription model? The way to pay for a game is a game feature now? Interesting...
No amount of reasons make WildStar worth playing since any game that has built in cheating/RMT (CREDD) where players can pay cash for gold to pay 2 win is worth playing.
Premium MMORPGs do not feature built-in cheating via cash for gold pay 2 win. PLAY to win or don't play.
"For lack of a better modern comparison, Guild Wars 2 is a great example of character customization done correctly" .. Had to laugh at this. GW2 gives you 5 weapon skills (4 if you don't count the first one which is basically just an auto-attack in every other game), a (self) heal, and some utility skills. The weapon skills are static, meaning you don't have a choice between the ones on the bar and others to use, and you can't even change the ORDER of them on the hotbar. Such awesome customization, fellas.

Zero interest. If I didn't know better I would believe MMORPG get paid for "glowing" reviews by companies who produce games like ESO or Wildstar. There is absolutely nothing facinating about the game, certainly nothing unique.
The game looks like it's build for the Asian market or an under 12 Western market.
Much prefer a game like Firefall or Path of Exile.

Nine reasons to never touch another NCSoft again...
1. City of Heroes killed by NCSoft 30NOV12.
2. Tabula Rasa killed by NCSoft 28FEB09.
3. Auto Assault killed by NCSoft 31AUG07.
4. Dungeon Runners killed by NCSoft 1JAN10.
5. Dragonica killed by NCSoft 13JUL11.
6. Exteel killed by NCSoft 1SEP10.
7. Point Blank killed by NCSoft 13JUL11.
8. Lineage (NA) killed by NCSoft 29JUN11.
9. Trickster killed by NCSoft 27FEB13.
If you like to play a game, invest your time, money and energy into it and really start to like it only to have a company that does NOT have your best interests in mind pull the plug when they feel like it, by all means get sucked into any NCSoft game and enjoy their brand of "fun".
Agreed.
I bought CE of Tabula Rasa, the game was destined to be great!
They made their money, didn't bother addressing too many bugs, then killed the server when they felted sales had slowed.
Never buy NCSoft or Trion, they will screw you in the end.

Did any of those games outside of CoH have even 10k players in them? The games that people do play (GW and GW2) are still running and so are other low population games (L2 and Aion NA).
Besides, Wildstar is a Carbine game much the same way GW2 is an ArenaNet game.

The Carbine team does not hesitate to throw themselves under the Bus and let the community know what happened, why it happened, and what they are doing to make sure it doesn't happen in the future... here is one example of that open communication: https://forums.wildstar-online.com/forums/index.php?/topic/48967-name-reservation-roll-out-post-mortem/
Upside down development:
Every single MMO that has been released in the past 5-10 years has been flip of the coin as to whether or not the progression system was entertaining or not... some of them, such as SWTOR, nailed it spot on and had probably the best leveling experience in existence. WoW art is cartoony but has a serious tone, while WS is a more exaggerated art style I would attribute to pixar animations.
So if anything cartoony is suddenly a wow clone, then its a wow clone... but if there is a distinction to be made then I think there is a difference.

thanks for letting us play the beta now I know to stay away.
next time think what people want to play in the future not what people are interested in when you start a project.
