My thoughts on 'Factions' after trying it out...

chaintmchaintm Member UncommonPosts: 953

First I have 4 characters at 20, maxed with all the goodness the game offers , so that's my experiance in the game.

So to the new and improved. All I have to say is, if this is new and improved , people will be happy I won't be playing. IE all the fanbots will flame me for this post, but I found pathing still a nightmare, I found the AI still as dumb as ever, I found the fighting still plain, the new classes are ok, for about 5min. It all feels the same and the bugs due to constant lag is horrid.

Some will say it's probably your computer or your connection, to be frankly honest I never had issues in the first part of guild wars. Some will say it's due to all the people trying it, give yeah that much, but it still has the other issues above that I mentioned.

I was really looking forward to somthing new here, unique as they put it, It's not there. People will love this as they love WoW, but for me, it's not worth the extra few bucks to continue the game. If the companion AI was actually smart, I might reconsider, since I play mostly support characters, IE healer, mezer and the like, when the AI waits for me to fight something and then when I pull back they all pull back (yes I changed the stances, modes etc) it just is stupid and no fun, I can't support and do my role. I have to tweek my characters to do dmg and that is , what I didn't want to do.

I select my own party, the game decideds thats not the party I want and reconfigures it. This is lame excuse for a better newer Guild Wars. Not thought threw at all is obviously what was done. Rushed because they were probably sitting back and taking a long deservered break , then noticed, "hey were is everyone going? " because most of us vets left the game sometime ago.

Badly executed is my opinion and again it's my opinion, like it or not you won't change my mind. The only thing that will save this is if the story line in the main game is good or not, I fully enjoyed the first installment and this is why I made so many characters. Story is my intrest, but alas this is guild wars and about pvp (which I like, but it's still the same no new stuff here), I don't mind the pvp but it's stale. Not enough variances, CTF, kill this dude, kill each other, no real objectives, they need something like seiges and rams  etc, make you feel like your doing something more then hitting 8 buttons to do special moves. Eh, its me I guess, but I found nothing special here.

PS. Who's bright Idea was it to add more warping spells in the game (teleport types)? It's bad enough with the warping lag, you don't know if your warping from lag or from a spell, geez pull some heads out of the behind and figure this out. As a support class player in most of these types of games, this one (as most) is aimed at the person who wants to get up there and hack and slash their way to the end. I see nothing here that adds depth to the game as it was raved to have by the developers.

do you ever "take" the time to read? and to the rest of you, yeah and your point? everyone knows this, the only differance ONLY differance is the "story line" and again, if you actually read what I wrote, it's the only thing that will save the new expansion, but if that sucks forget it. The pvp/classes etc just are not worth the money to spend on an expansion.

This expansion reminds me of a cookiecutter version of an EA game. These two companies should get to gather and take notes, they love to release expansions that are thrown togather in a few weeks with no real content (now I know, the main story line is not in the weekend trial :P, read my first post) and try to sell me on 2 characters and ummmm... yeah 2 characters. Hey this reminds me of the upcoming WoW expansion, one new race expansion one land expansion and poof! new bug mobs to boot! yeah that's worth 35-50 bucks on top of a monthly payment to that game.. geez don't even get me started on that excuse of a game.

This pvp weekend shows ONLY the 2 new proffesions, not the new arenas, like the 55 maps you can conquer in chapter 2. THIS isnt chapter 2 yet. This is only a beta test for the 2 new characters thatz all. there cming more events to test and give us a little preview about the next chapter. These arenas are not the ones that will be given in chapter 2 these arena's where allready there but only placed to an other place so that other chapters can reach the arena's without having to buy chapter 1

again the only saving grace, (if you people would actually read) is if the full game versions story line is good period. Wouldn't hurt if they would fix the lag and pathing bugs and AI, but oh wait, thats not part of the new expansion is it?

I seriously hope they fix those things. I always tell people not to bring a Healer Henchman because she's got dumb AI. The whole set paths thing I don't mind except for having to fight every last monster.

*shrug* I've never had a problem with pathing. Can't comment on AI as the only time i've used Henchman is when I had to for first part of the Factions tutorial.

Come on now Arutha that's a little harsh. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Where as you and I might see the weekend event as a success. He views it as 'badly executed'. Which is ok, as that is his opinion on it. I will suggest that he or she. Send feedback or suggestions to Arena.net. Let them know what you thought. That's what part of this weekend is about. (Besides just testing the two new classes and skills) That is if you are serious about making GW:Factions and GW in general. A better game.

Guild Wars: Factions will use the same engine and game concept.  If you are looking for something new, you wont find it.  It wont be as fun as the first time playing the game.

The update is takes about 2-3 hours to see all the new stuff and try it out.  Then maybe 10-20 more hours to beat all the pvp challenge missions, beat the unique tombs pve dungeon, and collect the new unique green rares dropped there.  But what you don't seem to understand, is the assassin and ritualist are the preview event.  Everything else is a free permenamt update to the original GW.  Both chapters will have access to the battle isles, not just Factions.

Guild Wars: Factions will bring some new gameplay elements.  From what has been confirmed, allies and faction wars to control parts of the map, and multi-team missions.  Those can be multiple teams working together to beat the mission, or fighting eachother to reach the goal.

Now even though my highest level character (Alzor) is one of your hack and slash through the game types  know what your saying about the AI of the hanchmen. I think its really annoying that whenever i play my back-up player or play my warrior as a monk i have to send in a smiting spell and running back with the henchmen and thats the way i also found pets but i think that in the up and coming events they should experiment with better levels of AI.

And on the subject of the lag and warping spells i think that you do know if your being warped or not because you have to press a spell to activate the warp and with lag it seems like the whole game stops which wouls also be different to warping.

    Some refinements:

    * This weekend was to do 3 things, bring in the new C1 changes, Test said changes, and allow fine tuning of the balance of Assasin and Ritualists.
    * Both profesions have gone down well with the public however there was some unbalances but thats what the weekend was there to find out.
    * Also, for those who didnt notice new content was added to C1 PvE on the weekend as well, includi9ng new green items as well as drops for the 2 new professions.
    * The AI is made to be fine for the average content in the game but it is not designed for the elite content. If you're trying to kill tiants and alesia dies, get some friends.
    * For those who didnt notice either, there was a new map as well as 3 of the lost maps from C1 added into the battle isles, tho 1 of these maps is only used in the training area. This is good as at least they're using their content better.
    * Many of you may have noticed radical imbalances in several cases of play against ritualists and assasins, please note that the skills to balance this were not included in the weeked but will be in later events and the C2 final.

  • well thats nicely put

i find it rather disturbing to that people judge sort of a beta test lol
i don't quite get theze guys saying its not good
of course it isnt, the beta is there to point out the flaws, fix it & make it good

"but they did a bad job on this weekend" not entirely sure bout that
everything they said was in, people saying no pve was in the beta
well it was called a pvp event

grinding, well duh, what ya expect? they give you 1milion faction for 1 win so you can buy all the unlocks at once?

i have the game since release
never did any pvp outside the 2 pvp faction weekends
    & about 5 gvg battles

i like the pve, you can unlock things that way too :)

Personally I love Guildwars, but i see the PvP weekend as a  bad move.

I imagine getting more people in to guildwars was part of the point of the weekend, but i don't know many people that tried it for the first time through this preview weekend simply didn't get to see the side of the game that most people love (PvE).

I personally played about 2 hours of the weekend just to read the skills list for the new classes and have a look around the isles, but this is because i am not someone that enjoys the PvP side of the the game.

Hopefully there will be a PvE preview event some time soon as i feel that it would bring in more interest to the game.

Damn you did good ruffling feathers...what I wish is that everyone had actually read the whole thing open minded...I happen to agree with several of the comments here and ones you made.

And at this TESTING I don't see it as worth it...however I too am hopeful that the story line will carry it.  They didn't think it out fully for making it open to everyone and the people that I know that tried it were not happy with it either...mainly because they had to use a template and they couldn't really get a feel for anything other than the basic training and hopefully the challenge.

So just curious how many of you are adding the new chapter to your exsisting account and how many of you are just letting it stand alone???

  • hm will everybody - not liking the second chapter because of what they saw in this beta event - please stop whining about it,

first of all, you did see some pvp
then we saw 2 new classes with some skills
then we saw very very veeery few pve changes too, like few new green drops & some drops for new classes

    what didn't we see (yet)
whole new world as big as the known guildwars world
    whole new pack of enemies
the rest of the pvp arenas
the rest of the new classess skills
all new items ingame (other than those few we could see this weekend)
the factions with the accompanying pvp battles to take hold of some areas in that whole new world...
    ...

so to messure up, we must have seen what? 15? 20% of the 2nd chapter?
stop whining about a bad job before you see it all
then make a just oppinion & come whine again

i'm so tired of those guys that judge books because they don't like the cover!

Personally not whinning here...and yes unless you seem to think that all of us are complelte inbred morons...some of us do know that it is just the tip of the new game and yes it will get better...Funny how an opinion that differs from yours seems to be whinning????  By the way its called Constructive Criticism, and is honest feedback (okay from some of us)  which is what this weekend was really for...without those that disagree or don't like it the products would be flat and boring, and the bugs would never be reported and changed because everyone would just sit back and accept well this is how it is now and MAYBE they will get to it before the game comes out.

I personally love Guild Wars and spend a lot of time playing it.  Maybe this event just didn't hold up to the hype that was stirred and that is where its coming from.  And I do have to say nothing I have seen here on this forum was as bad as the bitching and whinning in game about the update, or the FREE Sorrow's Furnace update, or that this game isn't like WoW or D2 (BTW PPL if you want those games go play THOSE GAMES).

Everyone is entitled to thier opinion...and I respectfully agree to disagree with you about how wonderful this weekend was.  Guild Wars as a whole is a great game, and I am still looking forward to the new chapter.

Not even close. What you saw was the new C1 content, and the 2 professions. Trust me, youve seen virtualy nothing of C2 yet. But you will.
