Up until level 25 ish, I did ALL tasks, all Path missions I came over. I got very bored. I then started to ignore most of the TASKs and my experience and level of fun has gone up. There is no real need to do any of the tedious tasks. I only do them if I can get an item upgrade from them.
I believe I have 100% or close to the 3 first zones. This left me with a feeling of being burnt out, so I just stopped doing all the tasks. If you have played like me, try this.
i see many people saying this..
but i think your missing the point un like most sandboxes that dont have tons of quests theamparks thrive on them and what makes it fun in some cases and your suggesting that you skip the quests and just what? grind mobs?
if thats the case then no thx..ill just go play Asian theampark mmo and bump n grind till my fingers fall off
the more n more i think about it i have a funny feeling WS will come out with buyable xp potions when their cash shop gets to rolling around but thats just a wild assumption
No, he's saying skip the tasks and only do the region/area quest and the world ones when they pop-up, while also doing either dungeons, bg, challenge, adventures. It's seem loads of you are forcing quests and only quests down your throat when you don't have to. I was the same boat and stopped doing some of the tasks or skipping the all together and was leveling with out a problem.

I realise that the fasted way to level is to rush through zone/ story quests, but I had the completionist attitude up to the capital city and had just worn myself out on the quests by then- all quests.
Seriously, now if I log in and a bloody challenge appears uninvited with a fucking timer counting down it just makes me want to quit straight out the game.

If your statement were true then Carbine failed miserably - wasting money at all content other than max level and also failed to have players start at end game after character creation.
That's just the thing, when you focus on creating a top heavy game, many aspects are going to suffer for it, the trade off is for those willing to make it there, the end game is more fleshed out. Most games the last few years have focused on the journey leaving their destinations feeble, that hasn't really been a wildly successful practice, maybe it will be different here.

Guys the only thing that matters is the endgame , if they made fun endgame the game might be worthy of your time if not they failed hard , if u came to wildstar for the questing experince then well... its a wow copy cat u should have realized...

i never seen a fun leveling experince in an mmo , even in mmo with big story budget like swtor i loved the story but all the boring quests around kept the chore part strong...
Well, here is my thoughts on Wildstar. I have been playing it off and on since beta. I tried four the toons on beta. When they, (*^&% Carbine) released the game I had bought the deluxe version. I played it and leveled one character to 36. I did not play it everyday. Five days ago I go to log on and I'm banned, account closed. First, I'm an older player and I have no need to cheat. I play for my entertainment. Second, I closed another sub, to sub to Wildstar. Third, this is the first time I have ever been banned. Ever means at lease since Ultima online, (1997). Anyway, I have sent them four tickets and have not hear anything but a crap automated reply. So, now I will try to get my money back but I feel it will do no good.
So to those planning to buy Wildstar be careful you may end up in a sinking boat. As far as i'm concerned Jeremy Gaffney & carbine can get off their high horse and *& *(& $#%^.
Update, ok still no replay from NC soft ( Wildstar) on my banned account. So I write to their Technical team and get this response immediately.

I'm starting to feel they think you'll just let it go and buy another copy to play, (sales tactic). Well here's my feelings, I'm going to cancel all my NC soft accounts and delete all my high level characters and find other games to play they will not get another penny from me. And, yes they only banned my Wildstar account. Funny why did I not cheat on the other 3 ncsoft accounts! PLAY NC SOFT GAMES AT YOU OWN RISK.

The issue is that their levelling experience is worse than most AAA mmo's for a long time. They make zero effort to hide the grind or add in anything remotely innovative or interesting. Some simple zone events would have made a world of difference rather than just stacking 100's of ! with 'kill 200 rats' everywhere.
The problem with WS isn't that all mmo's have tedious questing; it is that Wildstar has tedious quests.

I dont share your opinion about quests, but even if its like you said, i prefer this than the oposite of having a better questing and nothing in max lvl.
When i play a char i ll be 99% on max lvl doing that content. The questing is the way to reach there. Nothing more. If there was an mmo that offered an excellent experience in both lvling and endgame then i would accept it. But as it is the current mmo market you have to choose between those 2 and i choose end game content, where WS rules in comparison to almost every other mmo. If i wanted questing i would play oblivion or morrowind and for sure i wouldnt pay a sub.

Dated and tedious quests, 99% of which seem to be kill or gather. The pathing between quests is poor, and Carbine need to realise that offering 100's of the same thing does not = choice. Some dynamic quests or zone events or something would have lifted the tedium.
I see this complaint all the time. You say you want dynamic less tedious quest. Give me an example of a quest that is not kill x or collect y. Do you want old school questing like EverQuest where it is camp mob X for drop Y for three weeks to get a new item? The problem is with theme park MMO the gear and items you get prior to max level mean nothing.
Players need to realize that MMOs are hardly about the leveling experience any more. yeah they try to bring some excitement with story and dungeons but face it, it all means nothing until end game.

I explained what I want- some zone events or something- I am not asking for something incredibly expensive or time consuming like voice acting and cut-scenes, but just for them to take some inspiration from the innovations every other AAA mmo on the market has made during the last ten years.
The problem with WS is that they throw hundreds of quests (tasks, zone, challenges... whatever name they give them) at you, all of which are the same; gather x, kill y. They are not even the more recent iterations of these where you might have a dynamic event, an interesting story arc, a zone event- they are simply - click on !- get told to kill 50 rats. It is the laziest quest design I have seen in a decade.
The game would have been better if they had just left out half the tasks since they are unnecessary for levelling and just add to the feeling of having numerous trivial bits of nothing to grind your way through.
And if this game is all about endgame- why the hell bother forcing players to grind through 50 levels in the first place? It just means that 90% of the world is redundant 3 weeks after release. People may argue that you need to learn your character- but when every rotation consists of damage, damage, interrupt with the occasional dodge thrown in- what is there to learn?
The problem is that some players do not know what they want.
They pay for a nmoRPG, but they hate levelling and immersion or role playing.
They want quests to be epic and exciting but they don't want to read.
They want an epic immersive mmo experience but they don't want to immerse- they want max xp an hour. Xp an hour is a number - that's allways going to be boring.
what these players want is a different genre of game.
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar
I did as I do with all mmo's with the exception of WoW. I rushed to level cap, and I could care less about the levelling at this point. Some Story quests are nice, and the Drusera arc is actually beautiful. For the rest, I'm at the endgame phase of the game, and having fun like a little kid with new shoes.
The levelling is boring? Oh yeah. Like I care. The levelling is behind me now. I'll just play the real game, which starts at level 50. And don't plan to stop anytime soon.
My opinion is my own. I respect all other opinions and views equally, but keep in mind that my opinion will always be the best for me. That's why it's my opinion.

WoW had a great back story and lore for an MMORPG. Most of the people who bought that game at release were fans of the series. Leveling and questing, even though very long was fun for me. I enjoyed seeing places I remembered from the RTS games growing up. This was before the WoW Endgame craze, where people rush as fast as possible to farm purples. And that Endgame madness has spread to every MMO ever since 2007. The actual game itself is just filler. And that's Wildstar. I am 50, I am doing dungeons and what not, it is not that much fun even getting golds. Its missing something or I am just getting older I dunno.
A lot of MMOs now do not care about creating an immersive world. They know that the majority of people just want the endgame stuff. So they do that. The game starts at Endgame has become almost synonymous with MMOs. And that is a shame.
Bad story
Tedious quests
Boring world, no synergy or feeling of being on multiple planets / continents. Feels like just floating zones.
Dull classes / abilities / extreme cookie cutter for every class. Do not roll an Esper unless you wanna heal. Fair warning.
Aiming system is cool.

100% true. It's the least immersive story and gaming world I've ever experienced. It's not mediocre or sub-par.. it's just bad. WoW, SWTOR and even ESO got much more "soul" when it comes down to NPCs and their stories. And WildStar's big selling point (i.e. endgame) isn't as good as you could think due to their marketing. Without a really good and interesting lore all these dungeons feel bland. In the end it's just a good game for hardcore raiders.

You are so right. but I would add that most players do not have the attention span, maturity and patience to play a MMO. They think they want to play but when they try they easily get bored, quit, and spend their time bashing the game while they hype their next dream game which they will soon learn to hate.
Wildstar is a game made for MMO players not pretend players. Those with limited attention span will quickly quit as the endgame attunement process (if they ever make it that far) right now is far too difficult for them. I see the game having quite a high turnover rate as the vast majority of MMO players will never have the attention span for a game like Wildstar.
Does that make WS a good or bad game. I would argue neither as its a game made a for a vastly different audience than what we have seen from most post-WoW MMO's. As to whetther or not the raiding will be good I would reserve opinion on that to see if Carbine sticks to their difficulty/no nerf promises or if ends up another easy mode game that started out with promise like Rift.

Thing is, WOW is made by Blizzard, their formula has always been reward based, that's where they dig in, by enticing players motivation through a series of prizes, many designers don't study psychology for nothing after all. That's where these guys honed their craft. It's the fundamental design of Diablo that influenced a lot what you see in WOW, and now wildstar. Where companies like Bioware or SE use story to drag you along, they focus on compulsion more or less. I don't think it's a coincidence that after WOW many in the MMORPG community started to complain about there being nothing to gain from this or that, so why bother to do it? It's not about fun, it's about getting that purple and having bragging rights.
It's why I've never liked most of their games, I'm a story + world guy, don't care about items of power.

There should only be a handful of chain quests. The game should be built for exploration and grouping. Spending 5 years creating quest hubs for people to force themselves through for one or two months and then never return to that "content" makes NO SENSE for a genre that is based on keeping players involved over years(longevity). See Asheron's Call. Create a massive open world and places to explore(really explore.. not bumping into zone walls), and create a monthly story.
This game was truly meant to be played only at max and I can see why so many are passing it off.
If your statement were true then Carbine failed miserably - wasting money at all content other than max level and also failed to have players start at end game after character creation.
You might think Carbine failed miserably, but I think Carbine succeeded wonderfully. I love the low levels, mid levels, the everything levels. Which one of us is "right"?

I agree, this is a niche game but that being said it might still attract a pretty good-sized group of people anyway. I mean, EVE is pretty niche too and it is doing just fine. What I don't want to see is this game get watered down by a suddenly changed dev vision.

EVE isn't a good comparison, it's essentially the only game that offers what it does at present, that isn't exactly the case with WIldstar.

The aoe telegraphing results in the most tedious rotation in pve... damage, damage, interrupt, damage, damage, interrupt. In addition, different shapes on the ground does not varied combat make; dodging out of a triangle makes a fight no more interesting than dodging out of an oblate spheroid.
Haha, this is true!
I am having fun though. I can only imagine the game will grow in a healthy way. It is just a baby right now.

Seriously? Just in my short time playing last night in the Draken starter zones I had to pirate enemy computers, sabotage tanks, blow up antiair missile launchers, shoot down an Exile ship, dodge enemy spotlights, defend strategic points, scan ancient computers and figure out what certain plants do, some of which hurt me and others that buff me. I also managed to capture an important Exile that was mounting operations against my beloved Dominion. Through it all I found out that my clanleader was given that particular area as a gift so that we can go hunting whenever we want. I did not do any gather x and kill y.

This is a general comment not directed at the OP, but I often hear about this dated quest system from people who are still playing games like WoW. I think there is a heavy bias against new games whether they break from the old system or follow it. If they break from the old systems its just confusing or not fun and if they use the old system its dated.
People should make up there mind about what they want since its just confusing developers. I think they have given the sales numbers for wildstar, but who knows.

Completely pointless post.
In no way did I compare Wildstar to EVE. I said like EVE Wildstar will be niche i.e. not has as wide of an appeal as something like WoW.
That is essentially the same as you telling me that Wildstar has nothing new to offer implying it will not have as wide of an appeal as other games that are like it since other players will be playing those. In other words, it will be niche.

Just keep complaining about bots & gold farmers.
Go figure.
Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D
I honestly don't think you could be more wrong if you tried.

EVE isn't a good comparison, it's essentially the only game that offers what it does at present, that isn't exactly the case with WIldstar.

Wait until you get to 25+. The early part of the game is a lot of fun.
I do not understand why you even bothered...
