EVE could be on the list as much as any MMO could.  Some modification is needed, but think about it.. it could be single player.

seriously, wow is not a single player game, you couldnt do most instances (on propper lvl as leveling process) or raids to get the armors - which are the high lvl rewards, and actually the only.

so, the point of this "news" was to tell us which games YOU LIKE TO SEE as single player games? right?

Look at it this way -

If you were looking for an mmo in which you never had to group with anyone, wouldn't you say that wow provides the highest quality games for that particular gamer?

And I suspect a follow up article soon, "top 5 group games" and guess which game will also make that list?

The genius of wow is its ability to appeal to a very broad audience. Solders, groupers, and raiders and like most players, some of each.

And no one can deny that in wow you can absolutely get to max level solo, with epic gear to boot.

Blizzard needs to make a Warcraft IV.  Most people don't even realize that WoWs lore came from the Warcraft series. The Lich King? Warcraft III did it better tham WoW did. That story you got sucked into. WoWs version was weak to me by comparison.

    Other than that, great list..:)

The new FFXIV is not solo-friendly at all like the 1.x was. Without group work you cannot play most of the game. So NO XIV to this list. Teso is very solo friendly like swtor.

    Don't forget LOTRO :)

(IMHO single player MMO are more then 5, and i hope about "part 2" :D)

Any MMO could be single player game with few tweaks (need group for instances- just reduce HP/damage on monsters, its not rocket science really)

Guess the point of article is single player games that wouldnt suck completely.

Imagine "old school" MMO turned to single player- yay, you get to grind monster for year or two just to get to max level without pretty much any context or anything, just because (yea, those sucked THAT much)

    Vanguard

WISH they can turn it into a single player game...

the world and land scale is very good even for now

SWTOR is at its BEST when you play with other people, the side quests are 100 x better when you have multiple players involved in the conversations all rolling off against each other.  It really brings the planet arcs up from being a dull grind after the first time doing them to actually being a lot of fun.

Honestly, I find SWTOR a MUCH MUCH better game if you have between 1 and 3 other people to play with regularly and you level together.

Why make a list of what are singleplayer MMOs.

Shouldnt it be more interesting to see a list of what games are really multiplayer?

I guess coming up with 5 of those could be hard.

Would love to see them all as single player with co-op and the adition of AOC & TSW to the list.

    :)

I think there are more players in the world that have in life to do something else other then only playing (but still enjoy a lot when have time). For those solo friendly is a must. And obviously this is how things are otherwise all games would enforce forced group play to make happy you. Simple as that.

    TSW not on the list?
  • ShazPurShazPur Member UncommonPosts: 47
As previously mentioned The Secret World really belongs on this list. Don't get me wrong - I absolutely love the game and it renewed my interest in MMOs. But the Multiplayer content is limited and tend to be repetitive an tedious. Even after two years playing I find myself thinking "This is a great game, but it would have been one of the true classics if they had decided to make it as a single player game."

The Secret World should have been #1 on that list.. I always felt it would make a way better single player game than a mmo.

I feel a few people missed the point of this:

What MMOs could be an MMO without losing much / changing much / changing the experience they offer now?

Anything by Cryptic.  It's the game engine.  The highly instanced game world(s) are designed to give people a single player experience.

Pirates of the Burning Sea. Again, heavy use of instancing for the story.

SW:TOR - by Bioware.  Gee, Bioware makes excellent story driven RPGs... who knew?  Who could possibly have predicted that TOR would be an online single player experience?

Tabula Rasa - This game would need a bit of redesign - but could probably survive as SP??

I would say that the more heavily games rely on instancing - the more they tend toward being SP games.

There are games you can play alone with instancing (LotRO comes to mind) but they would not survive as SP.  The instancing supports the story but does not replace the world.

DDO is another heavily instanced game but is unique in that the instancing in that world supports the modular design that D&D is and was.

Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.

what the hell, Secret World not even on the list ?

    shame.

Guess the author considers "collect 10 raven eggs" typical MMO crap quests greater single player content than the excellent missions in TSW which actually require something like a brain.

Really lol WoW took first place lol, i have play all 5 MMOs and SWTOR would be number one for sure as far the story lines of each class and all the detail and depth of its story telling along with its faster more modern  game play  in which attacks are more instant unlike WoWs slow atacking and its companion system that bioware is famous for having in alot of their AAA RPGs in which makes it able to solo almost all content including some group rate content. Bottomline SWTOR offers more of that AAA RPG experience then WoW does and is one of the things that made it different and not as ikable by old school MMOers who still want MMOS to stay the same. Now of course the real reasons behind dislike and it not reaching its potential was lack of steady flow of real expansions, the worst f2p business model, a premature launch, and bad decisions publisher side by EA but we do not have to get into that old news.

Now another thing maybe its because ESO is new but ESO could for sure be at the number one spot as well if not number 2 since it pretty much has a AAA RPG experence when it comes to its PvE for sure and in fact has content that is even meant for solo only. Another honorable mention would be Wildstar due to the storylines and more modern gameplay giving it a AAA RPG experence feel to it too but of course alot more MMO features and conetnt then SWTOR and ESO i feel so its actually more balanced and would probally be more of a top 3 or top 5.

I love God of War but its an on rails small game. If Warcraft was to become single player then it would be along the lines of Skyrim or The Witcher. Huge open game with lots of depth and no guided paths or QTE.

If you are talking about the combat then thats fine, although i would prefer a dark souls combat  with my enhancement shaman ;)

I agree with your choices. I would have added another mmo to the list you have, Asheron's Call. If they made a few changes to release it as a single-player game, I'd grab it in a heartbeat :)

I don't know... WoW is one I have to wonder if it would really be as fun as a singleplayer game. So many elements in it are really enjoyable that happen to be multiplayer, like scenarios and raids. The raids are the most important elements in some ways to the game's storylines. Would these raids be as epic and fun done as a singleplayer experience? I am not so sure. I would agree that the non-dungeon/instanced part of the world would be great for singleplayer stuff, but maybe they would have to release a WoW2 that has new storylines and something fun and specifically for singleplayer...

I think that ToR could definitely exist in either a singleplayer or multiplayer format and not be that changed. I found the group mechanics sort of meh in the game, so whether you do an FP or formerly group-based quest solo in a singleplayer game I think would not change that much.

I know this might sound silly, but I would love to have the EQ2 world done as a singleplayer world. Again, it could be like an offshoot of the current game as I described for a WoW2 but instead of having singleplayer versions of the raids they could just do something else.

Playing MUDs and MMOs since 1994.

If Square Enix converted Final Fantasy 11 into a single player game with less grind involved, I don't think I'd need another game to play for a few years.  There is just so much to do in that game between the various storylines per expansion, side quests, high end content, etc...

Dont´t agree with GW2 cause the WvW Feature is for me the main Fun Part and it will not be possible in a single player game. GW1 is more singleplayer focused i think.
