Originally posted by Kyleran The desperation of people trying to get these keys is astonishing, and so is the amount of anger and disappointment for failure.
The other amusing part is that 90% of them likely wouldn't have gotten a key had everything gone the way they thought it would, and they would have found reasons to complain anyway.
A sincere and straightforward apology is always appreciated, and the plan to hold a sweepstakes for the remaining keys is certainly an improvement.
However...
Claiming that you were shocked and surprised by the response strikes me as pretty, well...lame. To be honest. You've been in the business for a long time and you KNOW that WoW betas are always in high demand. You know this. This was very amateurish on your part.
For my part, I'm sending feedback to Blizzard to ask that they stop giving beta keys out to websites. I'm tired of fiascos like this. I'm tired of botters snagging multiple keys and then posting to gloat about it. I'm tired of people winning keys and then turning around and selling them. Make beta access available in phases to those who pre-purchase the expansion.
But all of these website/streamer/blogger contest messes need to stop. SO sick of it, and yes, I'm really frustrated because I actually like beta testing and I just don't get keys. If I honestly lose a contest that's one thing. But being defeated before I even get a chance to try is just depressing =P

Right? It was my first day on the site and I still found it. Made my account just today, and got my key with no problems. How people didn't understand is beyond me. What's funny is they're blaming these nice folks at mmorpg.com.

Anyway, back to playing WoD. Thanks mmorpg.com!
idiocy is strong with you, that site was used before, but besides that even they said they used it cuz they couldn't do shit.

Such beta-less rage.
I'm quoting this before you change it - because it doesn't make a damn bit of sense. mmorpg.com was used before? I'm sure it was.
Anyways, I sat at the WoD Beta Key Giveaway site (appropriately and obviously listed in the "Contests and Special Offers section), refreshed for a while until the keys came up, clicked the button, and got my key. It took a few minutes for the page to load with all the traffic, but it worked fine.
The funny thing is, you could have at LEAST posted on twitter that you would be providing the keys through the old page. Many of us followed your information that it would be posted on the front page and on twitter.
Essentially we've just provided you with a shit tonne of ad revenue and you've cost us 3 hours. If we'd have at least been given a fair shot at getting a key then there'd be no bitterness on the part of over 3000 people.
This right here. This is what really got to me the most. Perfectly said.
for the ppl that made there account b4 july, pls stfu u clearly know how this site works and yet u still complain. i am a new account and so far have had a terrible exp as a 1st time user.
enjoy
Most of the really strong negative feedback is actually coming from people with accounts that are years old. Most of the cussing Im seeing over this is actually coming from those. Honestly, this is a bust no matter what way you look at it.
Originally posted by Xaspherous As a long term follower of this website, I am very disappointed in this matter. The writing staff is very unprofessional, the website admin is a joke and over all quality of the site has gone down hill so much since I first joined. I don't post a lot but I did enjoy the beta key giveaways and even won some physical items back when they actually gave away hard copies of games. I will no longer support this site and I think it would be smart for other community members and game corporations to withdraw their mutual support as well. I know you can care less about me as a single member of the mmorpg.com community and will most likely not even read this at all but I had to put my anger into a constructive post vs. a blunt anger flame post.
To prove my earlier post. See? its long time users as well. They really bombed this one...
You'd think they were handing out beta keys for World of Warcraft II, not a 10 year old mmorpg. Like I've always said, the disconnect that some posters on this site are spewing to what is actually being played and paid for is astonishingly inaccurate. Oh well, I got mine the first time around. Guess that happens when you actually are a regular and not a promo groupie. Too bad I haven't even activated it yet...then I would be able to tell you if it's worth all the tomfoolery on display here.

Man you and me both bro. Im the type of player that actually tests the game and gives a ton of feedback. Hell, Im one of the most active paladins on the wow forums and a top end retribution paladin. Does it matter? Not a chance. Instead, 70% of the keys that will go out wont be used for testing, and will either be used to try out wod before it comes out to see if they like it, even though they should be testing to give as much feedback and bug compilation as possible, or the keys will get used for a few days, and wasted by people who dont really even play wow much anymore.
Its like blizzard wants good people to test out their betas, but they go the completely WRONG way in deciding who gets them. I dont understand that at all....

exactly!! Same issue here! I got a beta key that was already used, and did not have enough time to refresh to get another one. i then proceeded to make a ticket, and essentially got told I was lying due to them not having a record of me receiving a key on this account. No shit. You cant even keep your servers up and running... what a surprise that you have glitches like this too....

Your an example of what I was saying. Someone who gets a key, and does not even use it. Blizzard needs people to test their clusterfuck balance that comes out with every expac since there is always broken and OP shit that ruins any form of good pvp or pve for 3 months after the expac comes out, and they make it clear that its because of a lack of testing on the beta....
But then they give out keys to people who dont actually use them, or who use the key as if its something thats supposed to be to try out a new game before everyone else, when REALLY its for helping fix and balance the damn game!!
3 hours now and refreshing every single frikin page. We are 3 dudes sitting next to eachother doing the same friking thing
woah lol
Wildstart beta key any1? the whole website went to hell too....but guess WoW is special.
its always the same , mmorpg announces a betakey giveaway , 2000000 millions of accounts are created and the "gimme gimme gimme " starts ....the sad thing is that probably 1 person gets 10 keys another person 5 , another 10 , other gets 3 , and a few get 1 .....
Today we held our second beta key handout for World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor expansion. Unfortunately this did not go as planned and the community being aware of our 4PM-7PM PDT event window brought our web servers to their knees.
Just as the many users could not access our site - we were also unable to load the keys through our normal administration interface and make a traditional news post, twitter post, etc. The only option we had was to "poke" the keys into our database server so that we could meet the commitment we gave the community to get the keys online in that timeframe. After we did this the 500 keys were gone in just over a minute.
We were unaware that we would see this kind of demand for these keys as we have never seen this in the past with any beta key handout event.
The good news - we still have 4,000 beta keys to issue in the month of July. The rest of these will be issued through a weekly sweepstakes event where we will give users 72+ hours to enter the sweepstakes and we will then randomly select the winners and send them keys in the following 24-48 hours. This is the only way that we can capacitate this kind of demand.
We are very sorry for how difficult it was for users to even try to get one of the few 500 keys we had to offer today and we hope these random sweepstakes will at least give all members a free chance to get access to this exciting beta opportunity.
Thanks for the heads up, figured server would get overloaded. looking forward to the sweepstakes
So sad to hear the news but thanks for letting us know what happened....... Still I hope getting an invite for me and my hubby since we never had a chance playing WoW's xpack beta tests in the past since we started to play WoW on 2007 and me on 2008.

How could you guys not expect this? It's WoW, and this is a very popular website.
Anyway, random giveaways like this are always bad. It screws over the loyal visitors, while the random person just signs up and never comes back.
woah lol

Hey I can see this post in the "News" category. Too bad I couldn't see it when they decided to give away 500 more keys! LMAO
Sorry for my hard words but I was really looking foward to getting off Timeless Isle hehe...
