Considering this thread is not about add-ons but about the OP saying he was banned for no reason.
Now I know that from time to time companies do accedently ban innocent people while banning those that deserve the bans, it happens and that is unfortunate. But as most who see these threads on the forums can say is a vast majority of them we wind up finding out that the starter of the thread really deserved the ban so having sympathy for this threads OP is almost not existent.
Now from what OP has posted and the little info he has provided that only real thing that can be determined is that he was banned and he wasn't using the highest possible security for his account. I am not saying that his account was hacked. There are numerous reasons why he could have been banned starting from exploting to afking to maybe having a character name that was against the eula, we don't know.
The OP might have an idea and is not saying. For privacy reasons we would not expect anyone from the Wildstar team to post any info so all we can do is speculate and maybe provide some suggestions to the OP.
So if OP is not going to provide any real details, well all we can do is really go with the normal and side with the belief that the OP is guilty.
for every one thing positive i hear about this game i hear two more negative...not sure what to think of that so think i'll stay away a while til things work out better
Originally posted by flizzer I never understood this add-on business. I'm not saying add-ons got you banned, but someone did mention it as a possibility. I figure If I can't download and play the game as presented then I'm not playing. If I need an add-on to play a game then I don't play the game.
This 100% i will never understand this need for 3rd party addons. Its just asking for trouble.
WoW has over 4000 addons and it has hardly hurt them one bit Addons enhance the game and are not necessary if you don't want to use them.
As I said before, imho he 2 step authentication should be a standard for all games now. It takes no time to use and coupled with ip authentication it would be almost impossible to get hacked, with or without a password.
Wildstar requires add-ons to correct shit design imo. It needs JunkIt, Improved Preview, anything to improve the awful quest list. It really also needs add-ons to remove the god-awful clusterfuck pvp and tedious generic, dated questing.
Plus, Wildstar has apparently embraced add-ons. They gotta police them if they allow people to use them. And by policing them I do not mean arbitrarily getting out the ban hammer.
Your first paragraph is you opinion and I really can't address that. To me it is perfectly fine. /shrug
Addons aren't the issue here though. The issue is the ops account was banned. IMHO if addons were so malicious they wouldn't be allowed at all. "The Ban Hammer" happens with every new release, because folks use credentials from other games on new ones.
Yeah, opinions are opinions, we can disagree all day and it will resolve nothing.
I like that a game allows add-ons, but I also think that with giving players that option they gotta make the limitations clear. Ok, my last post was probably just bashed out with much thought, but if I am on (as an example) Curse.com I kinda expect the add-on to be legitimate and to have been checked. I would be rather peeved if I use one and got banned from what you expect to be a legitimate site offering something the game tells you is acceptable.
Then again, I do not know how or why the OP got banned; the main issue is the slow response from support.
my guess is he was using add-ons or maybe the google authenticater thingy
as far as add ons ..when i did play with a friend he said
"dude i found this addon and its great! it shows you where the nodes are and a line leading to it"
i was like..why do you need that? the map shows you anyways and the game has most of the addon type things already made into the game...then he was like..well its red instead of green..i just smh
some people out there think they are just soo "cool" to being using a new addon or as many as they can no matter what it is..just to tell the next guy !hey! i got this cool addon do you have it?! ..no? well im leading the "im cooler" than you life now lol
1.) You weren't using the authenticator and as such got hacked and banned.
2.) You were botting whether afk bot or other means and got banned for it.
3.) You found an exploit and exploited it.
4.) You were accidentally banned, something that is extremely unlikely.
I'd assume likely 1 or 2. Spamming messages for this is useless, either way it is YOUR fault. Reusing the same password for everything isn't good, and if you are botting, well then I don't think anyone alive would be against your banning.
They could have been banned accidentally but either way it's still their fault?
Welcome to MMORPG.com forums, where you're guilty until you give up trying to prove yourself innocent and just slit your wrists.
What happens if everyone says he's innocent ? Is there singing, trumpets ?
Or does the same thing happen either way.
If everyone on THIS SITE said he was innocent, the rapture would start.
It already has....on HBO's new tv show The Leftovers.
I got banned today for 132 hours it says for "3rd party applications", I have a 2 step auth and access history tells me I havent logged in from anywhere but my house, I played the game for maybe 8 hours and was level 19 and didnt even have any add ons or anything like that, oh well. Funny thing is it happened an hour after I canceled my sub, but im sure thats just a coincidence.

Addons and exploits are not the same thing.
Botting, for instance, which is the primary reason most accounts are getting banned, is not accomplished through simple addons.
Carbine has made the limitations clear about addons. They have already said that if they decided that they didn't like a particular addon, then they would break it, not ban people for having used it.
There are a ton of people in the official forums who got their accounts banned because they left them unsecured, and gold farmers exploited them. That's the reason people should take more personal responsibility to make sure their own accounts are secure.

Gotta agree with poster Damon. If it is a mistaken banning, how the hell is the gamer (the person who has purchased a product in good faith and is now prevented from receiving what they have payed for as a result of a mistake by the company supplying said product) at any way in fault. I have said this before, but frequenters of mmorpg.com give too much leeway to their preferred developer. In no other sphere would a consumer put up with such shoddy treatment.

It's okay if you don't believe me. Im just happy this hasnt happened to me in a game I actually liked.
I think what it all comes down to in this thread is that we all need to use better security. No one should blame the OP, but we should at least learn from what happens. The problem is the OP didn't try to correct the problem to begin with, at least not what I have seen in the thread.
When I get hacked my first thought is *&@#, I got hacked! I go to the games website and find the customer service information and try and resolve it. The last place I would go would be here! There is nothing to gain by coming to this site without first trying to fix the problem. Even if my computer was on fire I wouldn't come here for advice about something like this.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
There is a problem with their code. I believe there is a vulnerability in the guild system coding somewhere. My GM got hacked, then the next day another person, then my account a day or two later. It could have been we were running the same addons I don't know. I only ran 4 addons myself.
I was lucky enough to log in while the hacker was using my account so I caught it. Changed my password immediately opened a ticket got a response 2 days later to secure my account which I stated I did in the ticket. Then I got another response that they were looking into it 2 days later. So at 4 days now. Then new email not related to my ticket account was banned which I expected to happen. Next was a response saying it looks like your account email was comprised, I changed it all scrubbed my computer, nothing on my end. I have a degree networking and have my cisco cert. for network security so I know how to look for stuff before someone states the obvious. Back to responses got another one a day later saying your account access has been restored you should be able to log into your account now and we are sending your ticket to another department to see if we can restore any items. Well that was a week ago and my account is still suspended. Sent in a new ticket everyday after I got the you can play and haven't gotten a response yet.
So all and all the game is great but the support service is none existent. Not having a phone number or a chat is ridiculous in todays digital age. Not being able to talk to an actual person might as well be saying we don't want to hear from you. Going days on days without responses is horrible for business. Right now I know 9 people from my guild have stopped playing because of the lack of service, that is just a drop in the hat for the amount of players I know. But if it keeps going this way could see a lot more doing the same.
I really hate to not support the game anymore as I found the game itself to be very fun but issues like this ruin the community.
The thing that surprised me (besides being falsely banned) was that my ban is only 5 days, I hope that people that are actually botting are banned a lot longer than that or forever.

As a heads up there have been repeated posts on the Wildstar website about support responses taking 1+ week.

Ya, but it would take way longer for support on this site.

well to tell the truth i have been using hacks in this game that help me PvP even better like speed hacks and super jump and no fall damage and i haven't been banned yet i know a lot of people who plays legit and got banned for simply using add-ons LOL i dont use addons myself i just inject a program that runs in the background. i used teleport hack as well and here i am still playing my 'ACTIVE' account since day 1.
Originally posted by fascism The thing that surprised me (besides being falsely banned) was that my ban is only 5 days, I hope that people that are actually botting are banned a lot longer than that or forever.
Banning a bot is a waste of time because they just move on to a new account. It's not like it's their account to begin with. So you aren't really punishing them by banning them.
They need to be more inventive... they need to write a program to identify the bots... which I am sure is already in place since I doubt they actually rely on player reports for such things... an audio file plays and the word "DOMINATED!" is heard. At precisely the same moment, the toon is obliterated. Not killed. Literally obliterated. Within a few seconds the toon is permanently deleted. No need to ban an account. If they try something that gets picked up by the program, rinse/repeat. If they hack too many accounts, there won't be anyone to buy their gold or even queue up with. Problem solved. Plus, imagine the amusement as you watch players get obliterated left and right. "DOMINATED!" "DOMINATED!" "DOMINATED!"

That's because your account was not banned, it was suspended.
Bans are permanent. Suspensions are temporary. Not sure why this simple premise seems to elude so many individuals, it's really not a hard concept to grasp.

And so is Carbines customer service. You also get your account back! Here you just look foolish for not going to the source to begin with!

Well i just got smacked with a suspension randomly. I haven't played since the first week it came out but let my sub continue in order to support the game. Its funny that they did it right after my sub renewed. Hope they answer my ticket in a timely manner. I was cited for using third party software. I haven't even used an add on.

17 days I've now been waiting since they " restored " my account still can't play still no answer to tickets.
I stand corrected as of today I now have access again so 16 days I waiting and am finally able to play again.
I would send a ticket asking them to credit me the 16 days I payed for but knowing them they would " suspend " my account while they investigated.
