"Wed like to clarify recent news of GW2 China sales: its inaccurate, from a Chinese fansite, and they could be estimating characters."

Well those who said: "Let's wait for official and confirmed numbers rather than trusting some Chinese site." were absolutely right then.
At least Anet is making official stands like this, unlike some other companies.
Actually the chinese site isn't the one to blame here, all it listed was character numbers for each server. It was on reddit that it suddenly became 3.8M sales.
Its not like it makes any real difference. Reprinting random things from dubious sources as news is bad regardless.
MMORPG.com was pretty quick to put up 3.8 million sales as a New story but not so quick with the correction directly from ArenaNet.
Why is that?
Oh, yeah.
Maybe because this info was released 9 hours ago which is about 8pm in the USA depending on the zone.
Now it's about 5 AM so they didn't post this info between 8pm and 5am which are of course perfectly fine working hours.
I draw my tinfoil hat before you for bringing this conspiracy to light.
So you take the word of a Chinese Fansite as being fact ? Does anyone see the flaw in this guys logic ?
I don't want to be rude but this seems a little Tin Hatter to me .
Its a little like the WoW subs thing being counted differently in China . Maybe there is a little truth in it somewhere but who really cares . GW2 is doing really well its not perfect but it is one the best value for money games I have ever brought .
I just wish even if someone doesn't like it they would be big enough to be pleased a buy to game is a success but nope people like foomerang want to argue because they need feel self vindication about the choice of game they play .
Its rather sad at the end of the day . Just go and play what you enjoy don't worry about how well something you don't enjoy is doing .
Uhm sorry but why are you attacking the OP?
I play GW2 every day but when I saw this news on twitter earlier I checked this forum to see if it had already been posted.
If it hadn't been here already, I would have posted it myself.
Posting a correction has nothing to do with hating a game.
NO but I see a lot of flaws in yours. The OP is quite simply posting the info, you're making a whole bunch of sweeping judgements on a poster, and their agenda, based on what exactly? a link with no opinion attached to it?
Besides I'm very familiar with Foom, I know he doesn't post with some lame agenda in mind.
For every minute you are angry , you lose 60 seconds of happiness."-Emerson
I saw the topics about the Chinese numbers and good lord can some people write posts equally as long as a dissertation.
This is a correction and it's welcomed. Makes those dissertation-long posts seem foolish in retrospect.
Both sides (haters/fans) were in the wrong.
Lesson learned: wait for an official source.
So many times has a Chinese article been interpreted wrong because of how intricate the language is.
Good on Anet for stepping up and clarifying. I saw that 100+ thread of name calling...like we need that crap. Posted this for closure. Figured haters and fanboys would both be happy about this.
Now it's about 5 AM so they didn't post this info between 8pm and 5am which are of course perfectly fine working hours.
I draw my tinfoil hat before you for bringing this conspiracy to light.
Before talking about tin foil hats and conspiracies how about you check the times of the News story in question.
They posted that 3.5 hours after the linked article at 8am.
Time is obviously not a concern when it comes to good news for GW2.
Why feel the need to come on here and start up a thread on this subject when its already being covered under the main news area of this site ? that tells me everything I need to know about Foom and his agenda .
I have googled this story about Guild Wars 2s 3.8 million sales being debunked I cannot find one news story to back it up .
I can't tell if you're drunk, high, or just didn't bother to read any post/reply in this entire thread.
You're off in your own little world, arguing with yourself lol.
I agree Tolmos. It is odd. An inaccurate story was posted on the basis of poor translation from the original language, which was refuted by the game's developers in their official twitter feed... and you still want to argue about it??? Crazy.
The developers obviously don't know the exact numbers themselves as yet if you read what was said they are making an assumption that the numbers posted on reddit are wrong . To me its obvious that they are just covering themselves in case the numbers don't stack up to those being reported all over the internet . That is very different from debunking.
At the moment we dont have a clue what the numbers are and I suspect neither does the person who made that tweet or he would have hinted at what he thought the sales were in China . I think the time for threads such as this is after they are official sales numbes are released to the public . Then we have hard facts to go on .
As I have pointed out there is a thread in the main news section covering this . Why did foom not post there ?

Are you really trying to argue that the company itself doesnt know how many copies it's sold?
The company is the ONLY one who knows how much it has sold.
come on, man.
The Deep Web is sca-ry.
Read it again: -
"We’d like to clarify recent news of GW2 China sales: it’s inaccurate, from a Chinese fansite, and they could be estimating characters."
It is a flat out denial of the figures and the source of the figures. What the hell were you reading???
They may know direct download sales but they probably wouldn't know boxed sales as yet . That kind of information would take a while to get through to them .
If whoever posted this tweet had knowledge of the number of accounts created in China in the last few months why wouldn't he explain why he thinks the figures are lower and by what approximate amount . I suspect he thinks they will be lower but doesn't know by how much . He may have very good reason to think they are lower than forecast but then again can any of you be a hundred percent certain this is not just a bit of damage limitation from someone who isn't sure of the exact figures as yet ?
Lets face it if they lower peoples expectations if there isn't 3.8 million they wont get trolled left right and center all over the net.
My point is the OP could not wait to start this thread he could have posted in the news story that covers this subject but he did not. For whatever reason he jumped in as a soon as he could with what he saw as bad news for GW2 . I don't like people like that . Too much negativity from many too many gamers on this website who want to see games they don't like to play do badly .
I will be interested in seeing what the official numbers are when they come out and if they are close (or not) to the 3.8 million estimated sales posted on reddit . Then would be the time to start a thread up such as this because we would have some hard facts to discuss , As it is this is just a bit of old gossip .
So basically you think Arenanet are lying when they say they haven't sold 3.8 million in china, interesting that you would rather believe some random poster on reddit with no accountability and a rather dodgy source to boot, than the one source that you would think, actually knows what they are talking about.
If they don't have the numbers as yet its not exactly lying is it . Lowering expectations is not lying . I also didn't say I believe the reddit numbers . I'll believe the official numbers when they come out . If you ask me I would think the sales probably are between 2-3 million but I'm not going to come on here and make a big deal about it being lower than the 3.8 million just because of a tweet .
Maybe you should ask yourself why lots of news websites believed the 3.8 million story because of a post on reddit ???
I may have commented about it in the news section under the story about GW2 sales but I certainly wouldn't have started a thread about it just because I wasn't keen on a game myself .
