Usually, when i purchase a new game or MMO i either love it or hate it, and i can easily distinguish wether i feel that i got my money´s worth out of fun and amusement or wether i regret that i made the purchase and feel i lost money on it.
When it comes to TESO however, i am at a loss as to how to feel about it.
I have been playing the game for the last few days and everything is so.....okay....and ...meh....
It is NOT bad, i have no major complaints, my experience so far is being bug/lag/issue free and everything seems to work just fine, with my leveling and questing being smooth, and offering me some short term fun.
But it is NOT good either, as quests are not particularly interesting, characters are completely forgettable and asides from the main storyline and some exceptional random quests, i could not care less for what is going on around me.
TES games have the ability to pull me into the game´s world like very few other games do, and i have played Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim for over 500 hours each.
But TESO does not pull me in like a TES games does, and while i do enjoy the tidbits of lore it gives me, the nostalgic locations and acceptable pseudo-TES combat and "storytelling", there is nothing particularly interesting or well executed, with most quests having weird and abrupt endings and npcs becoming meaningless 2 minutes after their quest is done.
The fact that i cannot explore the world as i wish to unless i level enough and that many TES core features are not (yet) ingame sort of waters down my experience as well, and as a MMO it does not offer me anything new or interesting.
As i said before, i am not even sure how to feel because i do NOT hate it or particularly regret getting it (especially since i got it very cheaply) but at the same time i am not enjoying it to the point to want to log in and play everyday like TES games make me.
It makes me a bit sad because this game could and should have been just so much more and instead it is an okay game with no particular downside but without anything special to offer over any MMO, much less the rest of TES games.

I think you should of beta tested it before buying it and figuring out it wasn't a TES replacement.
ESO does a great job doing what it is supposed to be doing... being an MMO.
The questing in my opinion, has been done better than most old fashioned quest hub games.
I really did not fall in love with the game until like level 25 or so. It took a while for me.

I think many of the best reviews out there touched on the fact that ESO is in a bit of a weird place. For Elder Scrolls fans, it doesn't quite replicate that formula that worked oh-so-well with Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim. For MMO gamers, I think they had higher expectations being that its built on the back of a popular IP, coming from MMO dev vets and under the Bethesda/Zenimax family.
It didn't help that launch had a lot of high profile issues. What appeared to be a very polished game in the initial days, immediately started to unravel a bit as launch got to full swing. It didn't help that Zenimax was pretty silent and preferred to talk about the first content update as opposed to tackling the issues head on and acknowledging them. Simply, communication halted except for the occasional PR bit.
For what it is, I do think ESO is a great MMO. Quests may not be entirely memorable, but I felt they were entertaining for sure. I actually have enjoyed my travels through Tamriel quite a bit. There was always a sense of context and it didn't degrade to grind of tasks. Crafting is nice. It captures that sense of time and accomplishment it would take to craft a really nice piece of gear.
I also like that I feel like I'm building a character with choices that have significant impacts. Between stat allocation, passive ability choices, skill and morph choices... I have a hard time believing any character is truly alike. We may decide to use the same abilities but our overall choices will have very subtle and obvious impacts as to how we use those abilities.
You are not alone. A lot of us who are no longer playing know how you feel. As an MMO, ESO is pretty much standard fare with a few odd design decisions here and there. As an ES game,..well.... you already know that now.

OP was not entirely negative, they did say TESO was bug/lag free. I am sure we will have some posters who want to rant about that. We can't have a thread on here where the OP does not 100% slap TESO.
Game is fine for me and my guildmates, been playing since launch, but if its not for you maybe move on to something else? Or come back here and keep telling us, keep telling us, keep telling us, why it was not the game for you. <yawn>
It's funny how you are waiting for people to join in to "slap" your game.
So far your post was the only offensive one.
I used to defend this game to the bitter end. Just look up my past posts.
But now....... IDK any more.
Didn't you get a refund 3 months ago?

Well it does have a monthly subscription; maybe he just can't afford it at this moment in time. A more curious question would be why defend a game to the bitter end?
Can't get away from the fact that ESO is an average game, with box + sub + cash shop.
It is not good for an ES game, but not terrible.
Not great for an MMO, but not bad either.
But it is all of that for a premium price.
So there is no use getting mad at people for not drinking the kool-aid on this one.
I expect B2P or F2P to becoming before the year's end, or plans for it.
There are some definite areas of improvement needed, namely the speed at which you acquire Vet Ranks, it wouldn't be so bad if you could do like half of a zone and hit the next rank, instead of the entire zone. 1-50 came really quick so I don't mind a bit more of a grind to flesh out your character and improve some more skills. I do think they need to add more options to improve your character post 50 though...
Other than that, they need to make Dungeons more rewarding, it is too difficult to find a group for Vet Dungeons, which are imo the funnest dungeon experiences I have had in a MMO to date.
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile
Lol, what "end"?
The generic feeling you speak of is most likely intentional. The game was designed to appeal to the masses. Console gamers, PC gamers, casuals, core gamers, PvPers, PvE'ers, fans of elder scroll games, fans of RPGs, fans of MMOs in general etc etc. When your intended audience is so large, you lose any sense of grandiose. Designer creativity is shunned in favor of the more mainstream. Taking risks are seen as a potential monetary loss. Swtor suffered from and is still suffering from these symptoms. It's just.."ok" and to many, "ok" doesn't cut it anymore.
Didn't you get a refund 3 months ago?
Ive never gotten a refund on any digital game, ever.
Not me buddy. My sub just ran out 2 days ago lol and I still have it installed just in case it goes B2P.

First of all I have the game. Sub ran out 2 days ago. I NEVER got a refund or ever said I was.
Prove it !!
Second I played since 4 days after launch. I fell in love. I hit 50 and started to do V ranks and......no....it just got boring and stale.
Even going through story, I tried so hard to like it.
So please stop saying I was getting a refund. I dont know where you read that but its none of my past posts.
Check for yourself.
