If I were to play this game casually, or come in late.. would I be able to get a house?

Kind of, their is a lot of land and multiple servers so you can, but finding it will be harder.

No, theres no housing space at all.

But people sell their spaces, you just gotta have some gold to pay for it.

Just like in the real world it is a lot better to get in early than late in the real estate market. Location location location.

You will always be able to get one sooner or later, just depends on what you are willing to do to get it. Unlike SWG the house goes away if taxes are not paid. Go two weeks and the house goes poof and the plot is up for grabs, Had a lot of people botting that in Alpha supposedly, if that is true I hope Trion learns to catch them.

Another route that involves less luck and more gold is that the secure trade where I can sell you one of my plots if I want in a secure trade agreement. You want that  plot by the ocean with a view of the beach, be prepared to pay for it.

A third rout toward endgame is there will also be plots available on the north continent if your faction controls that area. I am not real sure how all that works since I refuse to go past 25 in Alpha/beta on a toon.

For lower level players that really really want a farm there is the open PvP  areas on your continent. Even on the original Alpha continent  there were plots available in the PvP areas even just before 1.2 patch.  I had 2 as a level 15 LOL, got ganked a few times but WTF.. Bet your ass I had a beachfront view on Omega and my beta server though.

so in short yes you can have a house if you come in late. It just might be at the shitiest spot on the map but you can call it home

There is plenty of room for houses ..BUT.

If yo uwant your house in a "Safe area" then you best move fast the day of release that will all be join in less than a day. There is housing available in PVP areas though you will have to fight a lot for it.

isn't half the sandbox part of owning a house? Having a farm, etc?

I had 2 plots in a PvP area on the Alpha server as a 15. Farmed them up until the omega server. I picked 2 close to the mailbox and put a lvl 15 alt there. I think in a month he may have been ganked 4 times maybe 5. Ws of no consequence, he respawned a 5 second run  from the plot . I would just hang around the respawn spot for a minute or 2 to see how many othrs popped in there. If I did not see any pop in a min I would venture out. How ever I highly reccomend you lvl yourself a bad ass lvl 35 - 40 toon with stealth to put there. That way you can hunt and kill the bastard that killed you. Much more fun

There can be homeless people in a sandbox. Just depends on what you want to do. Houses are fun for me, others  could give a shit

If you want 1 get 1. How easy it is to get or if you get the exact one you want depends on your decisions

No, the real core of a sandbox game is the competition between players and real estate is definitely an area players complete and traffic in.

the last time i heard something about ArcheAge housing people were talking about losiing your terrain if you stop playing the game for a while. So you will have plenty of space when people start getting forclosures lol.

EDIT: or was it another game?.... im pretty sure it was ArcheAge.

The housing issue (or the lack of) will be a big issue in this game. Its probably one of the most frustrating issues getting a farm and no safe place to put it.

There is plenty of space, but only in the non-safe region. Safe zone land is going to be hard to come by for the time being but I do recall XL and Trion both saying that this is something they were going to address at some point, and that was a number of months ago. So chances are eventually, there will be more but yeah...Who knows when that  will be.

This game has a TON of empty space that isnt being used for anything and you can not place a house on.

There is no reason why everyone on a server could not have some space an privacy, but for whatever reason the devs didnt designed it this way.

When i play in RU wasnt that hard to find a place to put a farm in safe zones (a server with medium population), but there was only 1 farm per char, if in West version a char can put more then one farm then that will be a problem imo.

I can live without a house in AA, but not without a big farm, and i dont like the idea having a farm in pvp zone to be honest, when i want to dedicate to farming i like been in relax mode, no pvp involve.

But, i will see how it will be when release come.

Wurm creates a perimeter around your lot so that it increases the distance between lots without taking up world resources.

With a perimeter system a developer can throttle the distance to large or small depending on how you want to distrubute the assests. This solves both problems.

Having said that, I saw more space not being used for anything then I did see space used for mobs or housing. tons of space

Once, i put a small farm in the limit of a building  zone. 1 or  2 weeks later i saw more farms in front of mine (in a zone that wasnt possible to place farms/houses in the time i put mine), so i get the idea that "placing" zones could be increased.

Maybe theres something related with so much empty space around the world, they could from time to time, when zones get to much packed with farms and houses, increase the area. I thought it was a system to keep things organized, if all areas were available from begining player spreed to much their buildings.

But i have no idea if there is such system, but im sure they once increase the area for building in RU version.

I think that is the plan. I think they would it would have been better to open up more lots and create a permiter from the start. this way people are not crammed in.

The way housing works is going to make a ton of players rush.. RUSH... RUSH to the land! Forget fun! Grind straight away or you'll have less fun.. wait, isn't grinding less fun?

It'd be nice if they let people know whether or not they will expand landmass on demand for more housing so we don't feel forced to blitz the game or we'll miss out on a ton of the main sandbox features.

... and limiting plots to paying members for the first few months is bad form. That degrades the payment model a lot. So.. really you won't feel like you have time to figure out whether or not you like the game before you feel like you NEED to spend money on it. Yeh, you don't really need to.. but it's like some weird mind game. If you take your time seeing if the game is for you, you might lose access to one of it's major features or have to deal with an inconvenienced version of that feature. I already feel like I NEED to spend money straight away so that I don't miss out. I'm certain I'm not alone. I don't like that.

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Isn't it a bit weird to play a PvP focused sandboxy massively multiplayer game and then say something like

"But when farming I want to be safe, secure and all on my own!!!"

Where is the fun without the resource being scarce and competed about?

  • itsoveritsover Member UncommonPosts: 353
if you plan on F2P mode, then dont worried about housing, because you need SUB EVERY MONTH for the rest of your life, if you want house. I think there will plenty space left, because I know peoples will quit sub and leave the game .

It's mimicking the real world in which the best plots of land are ear-marked to be parking lots.  You can't jack up the price of real estate if there is no short supply.  Simple economics... only the developer beat the gamers too it.
