hello fellas
during our Gaming sessions we do Bad things we do good things, bad things happen to us good things happen to us its a part of playing Multi-player games in general and more of playing mmos, laughing at people, getting laughed, leaving groups without saying a word, and ranting on people ( it happens a lot, sadly to me rather then me doing it ).
again this is gaming we are not doing any harm ( am talking about little things here like examples above)
so lets start :
have i scammed (yes):
while i don't consider this as scamming rather then being smart, but i do feel bad about it what do i do well here is an example:
in WOW : (practically stormwind)
i go to the AH and search for items, cheap ones, i search and search and search until i select what i need (careful i said select not buy), then i yell in the TRADING channel for example : WTS (an linked item for AH) for 80g
i wait a little bit then post again till someone whisper me we arrange a meeting probably near the bank (there is a mail there), and then i go and buy the item and sell it.
now this is all normal for you ,but i buy the item for a lower price and sell it for a high one, but i feel bad because i kind of cheated the guy who buys from me ( i mean yeah right he should have checked the AH but still its kind of bad).
have i been scammed (yes):
again in WoW (STV)
remember those the pages that you used to sell it for people, so yeah i had one of those pages and someone asked for it and i told him i would sell for (30 s), when he got to me we traded i put the page and pressed trade ( i saw that he put the money first) but i after i pressed trade he erased the money press trade and took the page for free and he said : loser, and logged off.
sure i got a little pissed of but its just a game so whatever.......i mean he stole in a game
so this my story what is yours
Comments
yeah, its okay as i said but i like the idea of having a lot of sellers to look at prices, that's why i like to look for a lot of offers (in real life only) when i play mmos am mostly busy and with not a lot of time, so i buy what i see reasonable
I had fun once, it was terrible.
Neither.
I play a game for fun, not to try to screw people for cash- there is enough of that in rl. It is a big part of the problem I have with many mmo's, people take them too fucking seriously and will do anything to get ahead.
I certainly wouldn't play games that condone or even encourage this sort of behaviour such as EVE.
I like the way Eve handles scams, in that they are accepted as part of the game. It's a dog eat dog game universe and widely promoted as such. People can't complain because they know that full well when they start playing the game. I've never scammed anyone in Eve even though it is condoned because I just don't have it in me to do so. It doesn't prevent me from admiring people's ingenuity and gullibility.
To the OP, I would not consider what you did to be scamming. People do this all the time in Runescape. It is called merchanting. Buy low and sell high. We have entire clans that do nothing but this. I do this sometimes but it is not my most efficient way of making money.
I was scammed once in Runescape before they removed bots and gambling. I was shopping at the grand exchange and there were people offering to double money. Well I was stupid and gave one of them a million GP. Instead of doubling my money he logged out. I should have listened to my dad, if it seems to good to be true, then it is.
I also believe it wasn't scamming.
I am a skeptical gamer in Mmo's and since EvE I don't simply trust/believe what is said or offered. That's just me.
If you feel dirty or uneasy doing what you did/do, you can always stop doing it and have a clearer conscience but it is only a game and no real economic damage to anyone in RL.
never scamed anybody but had a guy try to scam me in Asherons Call back in the day.
when you traded with people you open a trade window and would have to drag the item into it. well people would try to time it and close the window real fast so you drop the item on the ground and they would try to pick it up before you could.
he tried this and failed so i killed him and took his shit.
god i miss open world pvp.
In WoW this guy commissioned some potions from me. I gave him the potions and he took off. I petitioned the GM and they gave me the potions back. Not sure what they did to the guy if anything. I just assumed it was a little kid.

I got scammed in SWG. Before secure trades, you had to give smugglers your weapons for slicing. Then pray they gave it back. Didn't happen one time.
Not been scammed and have not scammed others.
I don't like to be a dick either in real life or protected by the Internet. Too many don't give a shit.
Scamming was part of gameplay in Wushu. It was the whole jianghu thing. I never did it, but I knew fricken con men. I mean these guys became legends. One, Allen_Gorden I think his name was, was kicked out of Goons because he made them look bad! Not joking this guy invited scams daily it seemed, atleast a couple a week.
I chuckle when I look back on it because I never was taken by him. I was taken by a market fortune teller though... Go figure huh

Scammed a guy in my first MMORPG The Realm Online. Crafted an Admantium Two Handed Sword and Dyed it Royal Purple and use the Name spell to rename it "The Wrath" and then sold it to a guy for a ton of gold. For those who don't know, at the time The Wrath was the best weopon in the game.
It's evil I know. I even handed first just so he felt comfortable. Hehehe
Don't hate on me I was like 8 years old at the time.
Probably the worst scam I've seen was in Runescape before the trading changes.
He was doing the whole "Double your money" thing that so many did back then. However, he was actually doubling it. Once he was surrounded by players (Since he kept fulfilling his "promise") he took the last batch of gold from all of them and logged off.
He probably made around 900 Mil that day. I lost about 100-200k as a test (Which is really nothing in that game).
Whoever he/she was I must give them props for using greed against others, but by no means do I support scamming. I just think that was one of the "Smarter" scammers.
Not a scam but a smart marketing move. i do this all the time on mmos and make a nice sum of money. as for scam i never did any but i do remember back in runescape 2 days the whole "follow me for free items" or my favorate "give me your armor ill add gold trim to it"

I used to be a big scammer in runescape and stole hundreds of millions of gold from players. At first I just wanted to have a little bit more money but after a time it was all I wanted to do. Even when I was at school all I would think about is new ways to scam people and couldn't get wait to get home to get back at it. I would do it for hours a day sometimes and it got to the point where if people couldn't give me above a certain amount like 5 million gold, I wouldn't decline them even though they were willing. I made real life money from it too by selling gold to kids at school for $15-$20 a mil.
After a while I started feeling really bad about it because I kept getting pms from the people I scammed and their friends about how sad I made them. Sometimes they would have been up all night crying. I guess I also felt bad because I became more mature in real life since it had been a couple of years since I started doing it, so I decided I would quit scamming and focus on helping other players instead. I wanted to return what I stole to some of the people but most of them would quit because losing that amount was just really devastating. Imagine if you got thunderfury in wow and someone could steal it from you. That's how bad it was. So if you're reading this and got scammed in runescape (6 - 8 yrs ago) for a bunch of millions and rare items, it was probably me (or someone I taught how to) and I'm really sorry and hope you forgive me.
I've only been scammed once and that was in Lineage 2.
In the early days, some items shared the same inventory icon even though they were different. People would take the cheap items and advertise them as the expensive items.
Normally I never fell for this scam but one evening/morning, I was getting ready to log off and I needed a few of this one particular item. I was tired, didn't check closely and was scammed.
Wasn't a biggie and a good reminder to CHECK YOUR ITEMS BEFORE YOU BUY/CLICK OK!

I was probably looking for a reason to leave and was sick of the game but I got scammed in Eve Online and went to there forums looking to get my account wiped, with no luck. I found out that if you try to sell your account though they will wipe it, so I went on giving details of my account and I was looking for a buyer for it, and problem solved. Had in game friends who were going to give me any and all money I was cheated out of, but was like, account was wiped.
I went back to the game one or two times but left after a month or two, game gets boring.
