  • Our games, like the normal population, needs the "little guy" in it to "fill in the remaining parts of society."

So, we do need people that want a free option or that have to pay little money in. They are the foundation or "cobblestone" for any online community (that has the free/little-to-pay options--and hence not a "paygate.")

Look at what AA did? Founder packs have existed long before AA's existence kiddo. Neverwinter and pretty much anything Perfect World publishes. More or less anything on steam too lol. AA isn't original, even that transformers shit was like 500$ for some of their founder packs.

    Well,

Didn't the transformers give out a lot of material things with the $500? If I remembered correctly you got 3 physical things w/ it.

Well you can keep waiting and it'll come eventually. And you know the best part about waiting? It doesn't cost you anything.

Welcome to the so called free to play games. :) Nothing is free not even free to play you know. I think it should be a forbidden terminology if it's not 100% free. Most FTP games has a trial version or prolonged demo version of the game but in the end everyone WILL pay if they like the game and they know it, so the company who creates them earn lots of money when you both will subscribe and buy things from cash shop (more expensive than it was 10+ years ago when we just had subscription). SOE is a good example how to drain money from their customers (by giving even subscribers really small bags). :)

It's not gaming industry to blame. Blame consumers - players. They want to be "testers". And it's a good thing - milk sheep till you can, squeeze them till the last drop. Later - fuck them as hard as possible with cash shop.

AA didn't start Founders Packs in the Industry.

Also I've been testing AA and was part of the first wave of Alpha Testers...never paid any money.

They wanted to be "testers" cause they thought it was a free route and they would have no guilt in "Free Gaming."

Too many impatient gamers now a days. No one is forcing you to pay. F2P games need money early to continue production and come out polished and fleshed out, this helps keep production on future patches and releases. Early investment in a game shows producers of the game that people are interested and dont mind spending more money on the game, its called proof of concept.

    You have 2 choices.

    1. Wait for the game to come out or get one of the millions of beta keys every one of these games give out all the time or open beta.

    2. If you been waiting you probably been reading up on it and know you want to play it so get a job and spend an hour or 2 of your time to pay for it.

No it's not customers fault. It's gaming sites like this one and similar sites fault actually which allow companies to call it free to play when in my book is not.

Yeah early access and paid alpha's are getting out of hand, but us gamers are at fault here. We have showed that we are willing to hand over a good sum of  cash just to get into early access. Just look at Star Citizen, there's barely a playable game, and there's alot of people that have forked over more than $1000 just for in game ships.

The sad part is you're charging people to be a volunteer tester. This basically sends the message that they really aren't even interested in testing anymore because they know people that pay to get in don't test, they play. Which means it's most likely to release as unfinished garbage like every other game with buy in alpha's.

The most polished games ever released since WoW are: GW2, FFXIV ARR and Wildstar. Now personally I hate all three of these games but they all share one thing in common. They didn't have buy in alphas.

yes that's the "model" which really fits in with our "societies" trends also. The new peasantry! As with our ever-growing corporate-fascism with it's thin scum at the top of neo-feudal 1%er aristo families enthroned in power. So to in the reflection of the game worlds, have to have the peasant class.

Everyone has good points on both sides of why its good and bad, to who is the blame for the way the market it is today. Though I'm going to side with the OP. It's just ridiculous in how companies now a days want you to pay to beta test. I mean its not the final product. Sure, they can give incentives to make it more appealing to buy, but that's not the point of beta.

Long time ago beta was about finding bugs to help improve the game before it's actual launch date. Although once someone buys something like this they think they got final product already it seems and they don't really test. Look at some of the alpha testers in AA. They are doing first impressions and judging the game in ALPHA, this applies even those that are beta testing it. You can see youtube vids or twitch broadcasters as well... Its a joke...

Have fun wasting your money on a unfinshed product :)

It's all part&parcel of the crony-style "capitalism" of our diseased "society" with the cult of infinite greed. These paid alphas are more then getting out of hand they are entirely obscenely out of hand, they never should exist in the first place it's a disgusting disgrace. These people should be ashamed but there is no shame in a corporate-fascist society. Only the cult-of-infinite-greed.

As is those gamers with so little that they looked to "testing" games as a no-guilt form of free gaming.

    Shaking my head.

Whats with all the blame the consumer crap ?  you do understand that even free to play games need to make money or they wouldn't be made...

Now I can see blame the consumer argument for people handing over millions to bad games and forcing more bad games to be made, but paying a company to make a good game well , that's sort of the point.

But I don't get why people get angry over paid Alpha, don't like it ?? don't pay or it, pretty simple, I for one am strongly oppsed to 99% of F2P games, so guess what I do ??  You got it, I don't give them any money or play there games.

The games I do enjoy and play guess what I do ?? Ding ding , you are 2 for 2, I pay and I don't complain cause seriously what a couple hundred dollars a year to play a game that I play for over a 1000 hours.

they get their money by selling cd keys .the one that you have mentioned in last paragraph . founder packs are just like cd keys but with added benefits . if you dont like the idea than you can always wait like me to get into beta by getting a key in giveaway . i got mine in cb2 .so nobody is forcing you
