No movie or tv show will make a great MMO. Look at what has already been made. If it's any good to begin with, you can trust the developers (suits) to ruin it.

I personally find the Star Wars realm to be the best setting in a MMO. But yeah... ruined by the suits.
It would be the reverse of many mmo's. You would have all the tedious, repetitive gear grind for the first few years of play time, and then right at the end you would get an interesting journey.
I dont think movies and tv shows make good MMO material for two reasons.
First, they are most often worlds that are fleshed out only enough to support the story and what is know and loved about them usually relates more to the story than to the world. And the problem with stories is that they end. Stories can be told within wider worlds but a good mmo needs a world that will persist and be compelling beyond the story. To many of the current generation MMOs are just story vehicles and when they end you are left wondering where to go next.
Second, existing shows would involve licensing an IP and that is problematic. You have to make enough money to continue paying for the license or the plug might get pulled on you. There are a lot of games that continue on modestly after many years but that is harder to do with a paid for IP. SWG got shutdown because they wanted to transfer the IP to Bioware/EA. Warhammer got shutdown when it did because it wasn't worth renewing the IP.
Best to create a wold from scratch that is intended to be a whole world and that has an IP that you control.
That being said, I would still love to see a Firefly universe come to life.

Related to the part where you talk about fleshing out the television universe, even if that universe is pretty well fleshed out, the most interesting parts of the universe are the parts that happened in the television show. A Buffy game would be interesting if the game was set near the high school or in Buffy's home town, but if the game was set on the other side of the country, you could have the same kinds of things happening, but then it wouldn't really be a "Buffy" game.
I think this applies to games like the upcoming Firefly game. The Firefly universe is actually fleshed out really well, but the most interesting parts are the parts that we saw in the television show. All the stuff in the game is largely going to be the stuff that they hint at or gloss over in the television show. So while I do want to see the Firefly universe in a game, I don't think it's going to be nearly as good as watching the show. I'd much rather play something like the TellTale Games series of interactive stories than an MMORPG or RPG.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
Game of Thrones of course, but not with a crappy DAoC 3 faction system, but with as many factions as there are great houses.
A Dune MMORPG would be awesome, there would just have to be ways to stop everybody from playing a Fremen =P
And a Sons of Anarchy MMORPG... outlaw biker club. 'nuff said.
Not GoT. GoT is so good because of the plot, and characters, which will not translate well to a MMO or even a RPG. The setting itself is not that special in terms of fantasy. It is really the bloody drama that hooks people.
Good Times. Any time you meet a payment. - Good Times. Any time you need a friend. - Good Times. Any time you're out from under. Not getting hassled, not getting hustled. Keepin' your head above water, Making a wave when you can.
Temporary lay offs. - Good Times. Easy credit rip offs. - Good Times. Scratchin' and surviving. - Good Times. Hangin in a chow line - Good Times. Ain't we lucky we got 'em - Good Times.
Mmmmmm Just lookin' out of the window. Watchin' the asphalt grow. Thinkin' how it all looks hand-me-down. Good Times, yeah, yeah Good Times
Keepin' your head above water Makin' a wave when you can

You would not play the role of Dean or Sam or the Primary Demons but you would play through as a Bounty Hunter, Angel, Vampire, Werewolf, Demon etc etc...

Game of Thrones (3 way DAoC-esque, Stark vs Lannister vs Baratheon. Expansion introduces Targaryen faction and Dothraki as playable race :O
nice idea but please not another RvR !
for RvR only the lore of DUNE sounds a great idea between the 2 great families and the rebels or the empire as a 3rd factions everything taking place into the desert like planet with the spice to be the currency and players would form guilds and conquer sources or forts into the name of the family they represent. Also some space combat would give the freedom to the developers to use their imagination and not be restricted from the heavy lore... and later on we could see more planets as expansions or more families ; )

All die, so die well.
Avatar The last Airbender/Legend of Korra
Just having 4 different classes (elements)
with your regular 3 different talent tree's
ex. Earth has metal, defense, lava
Of course the actual Avatar is an NPC who could tribute to world PVP or something.. idk..
Spongebob Squarepants could be made into a really cute kiddie mmo.
American Horror Story: Coven

where do I send the money?
Farscape - tons of playable races, factions, and ships
Firefly - huge variety of weapons
Heros - endless selection of abilities
SuperNatural.

Doctor Who. Imagine a game full of people with their own tardis?
Time travel makes designing such a game very complex.
Super Nanny.
Guild leaders know the feeling.

Definitely agree here. Underworld would be a very fun universe to romp in.
[rant] Especially since CCP bought White Wolf, which includes World of Darkness, which they cancelled production on indefinitely.
So now they own it and the entire IP will just stagnate. [/rant]
