I think this game could possibly be the sleeper of the year. A friend of mine went to PAX to check out LOTRO, got to play the demo of this game that they had there, now she is all over the PoBS site and LoTRO ranks a distant second. I may just have to upgrade my old 9800 pro for this one I am patiently waiting on a beta slot, I am hoping for the second phase or whenever they introduce the trade skills..... Are we there yet?
There is one thing I can say about Flying Labs Software, if they don't think it is ready then it is not ready. I have been following this game since it was first announced and have seen it go from an idea to the point that they have finally started closed beta testing. That means that they have an actually semi-playable product that just needs a few more months to polish up before relaesing it. As the poster above me wrote...this might possibly be the sleeper hit of 2006.
Another great thing is the developers listen to the players. If any of you recall this game was going to be released with just player ran ships at first. No player character avatars, no people on deck. It was just about ships going from port to port selling goods, pirating ships, and such. That was back in 2003. Then we players spoke up and said...wait...don't release it until you have player avatars, and crews manning the guns...give is a full blown MMORPG and not EVE set in the days of the Spanish Main. They agreed and now the game has all that and more. Like I said, I have been following this game since day one and I must say I am very impressed with what Flying Labs has done and where they are taking this game and unlike a lot of the upcoming releases...this game is not going to be oh just wait until after we release then we promise we'll add this. Nope...FLying Labs is doing this game right and it'll be nice to play a game for once that is not released on promises of a game that is yet to come.
I cant make a decision on a game that I havent played first. This one looks intense and the only flaming on the game that I have seen is the long wait time for release. So once it is released everyone will quit moaning and release that it was worth the wait. I for sure dont want a buggy release, so until then I will play as many free trial games as possible (neocron 2, AO, beta AA, Americas Army, WWIIO). They keep my time full and I remain on this PotBS forum until then. But its not worth getting upset and lost hope over. If the game doesnt get released, we can wait for pirates of the caribean online from Disney .
Ive got two choices, run, or stay and fight...And I dont see no doors...
I thought this game was long dead but now I saw that it was up on E3 and the developers page has been updated a lot since I was last there (if I remember correctly).
Seems we'll actually see this game after all.
Let's just hope it has enough depth to keep us busy.
Have to agree that it takes a lot of time and resources to bring a game to market, bear with em, if you look at how many people are actually creating this game, no wonder its taking a long time. Small developers have to do the best they can with little resources. I personally don't care if the game comes out next Q or the next, or the one after that, as long as the game is good. And in my humble opinion from what I have seen so far, it will be.

QFE.
1. Game is near release. 2. PvP&RvR is going to be an internal part of it, not an afterthough (like in WoW and partially in EVE). 3. It's aimed at 18-32 age group and is going to be advertised in Navy periodicals and similiar magazines.
The OP is talking nonsense. People wanting Pirates are after unique gameplay not state of the art graphics. I know this, the devs know this and most of the people in this forum know this - except the OP.
Wow there is a lot of indepth read on this thread lol. I had no clue the game was in developement since 2003 lol. I'll have to keep my eyes on the game as if the community has been listend to and they are taking their time on development then I'm hoping they put out a quality product. This would be a nice change from all the other MMOs except for the few big names.
Graphics most certainly don't make the game. I mean look at www.vendetta-online.com. The ship models in that game look like toys..... Yet the multiplayer beats any space MMO you have ever played.
what the hell ? why some people say that this game is a disaster ? this game is awersome ! for me , it the best gameplay ever , lol some said it was out-dated ... ... they won graphic award and game-play award , ( graphic 9/10 , gameplay 10/10 . ) lol i wish a fast release for this game and fair winds !

Ohhh my good i'm 32 this year , hope they will release it so i can have fun at least 1 year as pirate. YAAARRRR
This game will be release and it will be great fun. I'm waiting for a game like this since pirates on C64, a game without magic, dwarfs or elfs (I can't see them any more).
I think they are getting close, but I so want them to be done. Soon. On the plus side, I took the time to cut and paste the devlog and all the commentary on the economic system by the developers into a single document. Runs 32 pages. I think they have made a ton of progress and I just hope they can wrap up the Beta test and take us live.

I think this will be a great game but will never last!!!!!!!!!!
Why will it never last?
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
