Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen: Taking a Big Step Forward By Week's End (Hopefully!)

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Brad McQuaid and the Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen team have posted that we will be seeing a significant step forward in the game's development by the week's end. To tease fans about what they might expect, the team released a trio of new screenshots to show off newly polished locations within the game.

Ok, we are getting ready to show some serious forward progress, hopefully by this weekend. In the interim, I wanted to post a few screenshots of Halnir -- you've seen the zone before, but not polished like this.

Check out all of the screens on the Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen Facebook page.

I... thought this game was dead. I mean, didn't they fail their Kickstarter campaign? Sure, they said it meant "nothing" and they would still work on it, but I honestly thought that it wouldn't last long. I sure am glad they've continued development, but... I'm not hyped. I'll probably try it out when it's released, anyway.

I reflexively joined Kickstarter for the $25 pledge as soon as it launched...

... but no way I am even looking at this "game" until it's actually in a playable state and they let people try it.

Already there, already pledged and donating $5 a month. The only MMO's I'm interested in are Camelot Unchained, this one and EQ Next.

IMO (no H there!), a step forward for this game would be shuttering it entirely. The reason why McQuaid continues to helm the project is that no one else who CAN be a good CEO wants anything to do with it.

I am glad that Brad had what it takes to push past the cynical crowd chatter and continue making the game many of us need. I miss role based MMOs. All MMOs today, all you have to is whine about what role you can't fulfill and the Devs give in. I want healers and tanks that can't dps for shit. I want pulls you can not kill without a dedicated puller and someone casting cc abilities. This whiny entitled community of kids can such it. Some of us NEED this game.

I wish them luck with it, and I would be interested in it, if it does get made.

I'm not giving him any money prior because clearly he isn't the best at managing money. But, if he can get this game to beta and it looks like it will launch in decent shape then i'm a customer.

Will keep playing EQ1 untill this one is done. If it is as good as he claims (unlikely, but possible) i will finally switch to a worthy EQ clone.

Ok, enough dreaming already. Ill stick with EQ untill their server shut down.

MMOs finally replaced social interaction, forced grouping and standing in a line while talking to eachother.

Now we have forced soloing, forced questing and everyone is the hero, without ever having to talk to anyone else. The evolution of multiplayer is here! We won,... right?

Nice to see some crowd love for this game, I have been watching it for some time but due to the controversy surrounding it I didn't put money down.

If the big reveal shows as much promise as i hope will back it.

When I read the title I couldn't help but laugh at my own thoughts with regards to it.

    "Now with 33% less embezzlement!"

Ouch!  An unfair thought as a whole to a team that's been under fire as of late.  Here's hoping they release a good game that fans are looking for and want to play.  In my opinion, some respect is had to one who can work under strenuous conditions and not just give up.

Due to frequent travel in my youth, English isn't something I consider my primary language (and thus I obtained quirky ways of writing).  German and French were always easier for me despite my family being U.S. citizens for over a century.  Spanish I learned as a requirement in school, Japanese and Korean I acquired for my youthful desire of anime and gaming (and also work now).  I only debate in English to help me work with it (and limit things).  In addition, I'm not smart enough to remain fluent in everything and typically need exposure to get in the groove of things again if I haven't heard it in a while.  If you understand Mandarin, I know a little, but it has actually been a challenge and could use some help.

Also, I thoroughly enjoy debates and have accounts on over a dozen sites for this.  If you wish to engage in such, please put effort in a post and provide sources -- I will then do the same with what I already wrote (if I didn't) as well as with my responses to your own.  Expanding my information on a subject makes my stance either change or strengthen the next time I speak of it or write a thesis.  Allow me to thank you sincerely for your time.

As an ardent opponent of EQ and Vanguard style of play I can safely say I hope this game does get made so it will show the "old school" crowd that those are in-fact rose tinted glasses they wear.  That style of gameplay has come and gone, it's time for a new type of game play.

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

    1) Why the hell would you be an "opponent" of a video game? Did it steal your girlfriend or something? just don't play it.

    2) That style of gameplay hasn't "come and gone" it still exists

    3) If you thinks it's time for a new type of game play, then go play a new type of game.

No, that's you projecting your own bias onto others.

have gone back to play those old-school games, as they were back then (yes, there are ways to do so), and find I still enjoy them every bit as much now as I did then. Plenty others feel the same way.

And really... why do you "hope" for something like that? What a strange and, really, pathetic thing to "hope for". What kind of person actively hopes for something like that? There are literally hundreds of MMOs on the market, most designed in the post-WoW themepark style, and you're upset about the prospect of a few more old-school options. How very sad.

Finally, who are you to declare that it's "time for a new type of gameplay"? Who deemed you god and arbiter of "what people should enjoy"?

Here's a suggestion: Get over yourself. Find and play what you enjoy, and let others find and play what they enjoy.

    1. Why am I an opponent?  Because the gameplay was boring, slow and involved elements I think hurt the genre.  Things like Forced Grouping, 80gazillion man raids and spawn camping.
    2. It has come and gone, no one makes that style of games.
    3. I am planning on playing a new style of game.  EQN.  A game that should revolutionize the genre all while being a beacon to some good elements of old school style gaming.  Namely the reliance on exploration and living worlds.

After the whole funding controversy after the kickstarter, where he just took money. How can anyone continue to take him serious. /shrug

I certainly can't, but his brain was the progenitor of some of my favorite games, and kicked off my favorite genre. So if he finds someone else to pay for it, i'll certainly play the finished product.

That being said, I'm jaded and hopeful at best.

  • tawesstawess Member EpicPosts: 4,227

Well if we go by the previous funding attempts... I sure hope he plan on keeping the running costs to a minimum... Because while i foresee a very loyal fanbase forming for this game... Heck i would even bet on them becoming rabid... I have a hard time seeing this game break a five digit paying customer number.

Also any churn will be hard to replace.

Also god knows how long it will take for this game to get out the door...

This have been a good conversation

Some of us are sick of people like you trying to force wow clones down our throat, this genre NEEDS more niche games and less big box flops. I used to blame people LIKE you for the destruction of my beloved genre, thanks for stepping out so I can blame specifically YOU.

could you possibly sound any more fanboi than this?

im looking forward to EQN as well. i enjoy many of the newer styles of gameplay. but i also miss the hell outa Vanguard. it was a great game.

As someone who never liked those games I think it's only natural that you can't grasp the reasons other people might like them.

    Diversity is a good thing.

But what in EQN is really new gameplay ? Other than storybrick that we have no idea just yet how it will turn out, I don't see anything exciting about EQN.

It bleeds but it just won't die.  I lost interest after seeing he was only going to make 40% of a game for the full kickstarter funding but I hope this ends up being that niche some of you are looking for and with how bleak the mmo future is right now I'd say it has a shot to do better than average.  I'll def give this guy a little props for having the sack to keep pushing this.

Hopefully this game will bring us back to the good old days of eq1, i loved no auction house, and having to promote sales yourself, also camping of spawns was great, loved having no instances made people play together.
