Oh! About the WoW crying...well, it's quite dumb discuss taste. I didn't like WoW even when it was released, for me it's too "cartoony", I was more like Guild Wars and Lineage II, but that's my taste, I can't say a game is shit just because I don't like it, nor do the inverse, put the game in a pedestal of high perfection just because I like it, so everyone should accept that this is the greatest game of all times.
The list was made by the author's choice, and he has a go from mmorpg to do so. There's nothing wrong with it.
So what you're saying is that Blizzard paying a bunch of money to be the biggest, loudest booth in the show and THAT is what won it "Best in Show"? This article is basically saying that they paid for their award hands down.
Just because your child is the loudest in the room doesn't make him or her the best, just the most noticeable.
I also detest how once again MMORPG.com is mainstreaming it's site by casting off more MMORPGs for just single player RPG games over and over again. How can award a single player game "MMORPG.com's Best whatever" when it's not an MMORPG? Indie MMO isn't even an MMO and instead is a turn-based strategy game with single player and multiplayer options. NOT AN MMO! It's seriously sickening how this site is just mutating into just another IGN, Gamespot, or Polygon noise without sticking to it's niche -which still appeals to thousands and millions of MMO players-. This article just helps solidify a nail in the coffin that is MMORPG's roots (they've been pulled, cut off, and replaced with consoles).
Originally posted by Slampig Well, kind of bummed I took time to read the comments. Can't this site just have an official "Crying About WoW Forum" and get it over with?
Much like WoW's reach in the genre, the scope of the WoW Whining is too wide to contain to a single sub-forum.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
It's getting tired hearing people complain, bitch and moan about WoW. We get it already. You don't like it. Were you at GamesCon, did you get in-person with the developers and attend the conferences? I didn't, so I'm not going to judge MMORPG for their choices in award selection. The awards are their opinion and they are entitled to make it. Until someone else can produce a better game that attracts more that 6 million subscribers, you can't fault Blizzard for being successful. They may not invent something new and different in every expansion, but they know and understand their customers.
Same goes for Apple. There are a lot of Apple haters, but they are one of the most successful companies in any category. Seems like people want the biggest and most successful to fall. I guess its human nature. Whining doesn't improve anything. Whining looks bad, like a bunch of losers in a game whining that the other guy cheated. When in actuality, they had the best strategy.
Blizzard dominates in a lot of categories besides WoW in MMOs. Diablo III and certainly Starcraft II have had much success, Hearthstone was a wonderful change in the cardgame arena and Heroes of the Storm will hopefully improve the world of MOBAs. Again, you can't argue with success and my best wishes to those who are most successful.

My theory is the niche it once appealed to became such a huge bunch of whinny douche bags they got tired of writting for them and wanted to explore other genres of games that might attract people who actually like gaming to the site.
Originally posted by DamonVile It's a hard list to find fault with and that's all these threads are ever full of so, people probably just agreed and moved on. If mmorpg wants more posts they should have picked hello kitty online 2 as best in show or something.
I honestly won't find any fault with any opinion as long as it meets the basic criteria (like games actually being in a somewhat playable state instead of prototype ideas).
Since all the stuff listed is way past "concept" stage, its all good IMO.
Well one of the winners missed what would seem like the #1 criteria: has to be a game.
I cant imagine you wouldn't have a problem with that one too.
Unless, of course, you were just being biased against a game you don't like in your other thread
There was no game - heck it's been over a year and it is nowhere near playable alpha - so in order for me to be biased against "a game" - you would have to have a game first.
So that's where you are mistaken - there simply was no game.
In your continued desire to bitch about EQN you failed to comprehend what I was posting about.
You guys are over reacting way too much. Blizzard has always put on a great presentation and just because WOW is older now does not mean they can't have the best in show. You could polish up a turd and have it win best show, blizzard is just polishing up a classic and showing it off.

All I can say is the awards received show how bad a year this was for games in general and especially MMO's. This is the first year in quite a few years that my friends, guildmates and I have splintered into different directions, and while not a big deal, we all splintered backwards. None of us are playing current games, we are all playing games released in previous years; TSW, Guild Wars 1 and 2, Diablo 3, SWTOR, Skyrim, and other single player games. That spoke volumes to me about where at least we were with games this year.
lol why give best rpg reward a game with its action side is heavier than rpg side while there is a truly crpg Da:i . if witcher is gonna win for its "natural ! " combat da:i gonna win that for its party system . Guys you cant even gather a party in witcher 3 how can it be most rpg of this year :SSSS

I don't think an rpg has to have grouping but I'm way more excited about dragon age than witcher so I hope it does turn out to be the one that "should" have won

I'm the opposite, but when it comes to both series' I want them both to be good Already have Witcher pre-ordered, have no-so-subtly suggested to my wife that she should get me Dragon Age for Christmas

I own both witcher 1 and 2 ( steam sale :P ) and for whatever reason I just could never get into them. I normally love story driven rpgs like that but it just didn't do it for me. And considering the rating they got I know I'm missing out.
Finally Wow is being recognized and given the respect it deserves - a few haters spew fire at a game, it might have taken ten years but wow is finally getting some respect. For those that have never played it, I will tell you this, erase your entire hard rive library of games, throw away any physical goods from other games you have, download Wow, order up a Dwarven beer mug, and get ready to be consumed by all things World of Warcraft, every waking minute to be consumed by World of Warcraft. This is the game you wished you started playing ten years ago, good news though, it's still going strong and it's better than ever.
Give it time, the Haters will be howling. After all, WoW is the very source of all E-Vile in the MMO world... ^^ Pay no attention to the more than Nine Billion dollars they have made over the last ten years... Its obvious that the rabble playing WoW have no sense of what a good game is <rolls eyes>

A sane voice in the crowd. Could not agree more. Wow basically has no competition. I don't play it any more, but I am not playing anything that is new either, I just don't like anything that is new in the last couple years.
I am a beginner in playing omline game. Is there any suggestion for me to do a good job in the game? Or could you guys can introduce me some new and exciting game . Thanks so much! : )

bingo. A generic expansion of an incredibly old dated game "best of show", of course they had to link a cool CGI because footage of the actual game would simply reinforce the obvious the genre is in a truly sad state.
What are the criteria for being a nomination go? Witcher won't release until 2015 and Inquisition gets released in November I think. Does that not matter for this?
Looking forward to both, but I just thought it odd a game coming out in 2015 gets an award in 2014.

Playing closed beta of ArcheAge and my wife said this is the one for her. Same for me.
We own all the Dragon Ages and all the Witchers and will buy both again.
We still miss Shadowbane and are still looking for a real pvp/pk fix.

shadowrealms release 2015
destiny release 9-9-2014,least it had a beta
warhammer-release 2015,well it is most anticipated, which seems like everything that won was in that category.
witcher 3 feb 25th 2015
and wow is an EXPANSION,no 2014
so none of the games that won has been released.really lets call it HYPEcon.
