Sounds like a good plan merging servers. Even though its one of the most played MMOs out right now, allowing players to see more people can only help the game.

Good news!  I hope more and more games take the megaserver approach.  I really can't find any reason not to.

Its more the mmorpg market is mostly casuals these days, which means if stuff isin't easy enough, the game will fail. Then again most sub based mmorpgs just don't make it anymore. Probally because imo they all just bascally copy and paste wow and don't even try to hide it or spice it up much. I mean if you took wildstars combat and replaced it with wow's combat, it'd bascally be wow, since other than the combat thats what the game is. Thats where the problem lies, people are tired of every mmorpg feeling like wow in a new skin, devs need to move away from it.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:

    A. Proven right (if something bad happens)

    or

    B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

Meh I gave it a shot month one - even bought the fancier collector edition thingy. Just couldn't get into it and didn't sub once that first month was over. The players were incredibly childish in chat - even for an MMO - the game that advertised being different and hyping their amazingness all along was just another grind just the same as every other game. In the end I just went back to swtor as I already had 17 lvl 55s and millions of credits and established guilds and raid groups. Perhaps swtor has it's issues but at this point it's going to take one hell of a game to entice me to start over from scratch with a lvl 1 newbie and zero gold and not knowing anything.

I never even sniffed WS hardcorest hardcore in the history of hardcore so suck it casuals because well - lvl 1 thru 11 was go here and kill x and come back; more of the same blah.

That and the graphics choice really irked me the longer I played. Cartoony 15 years ago graphics weren't even cool in 1999. Guess I'll have to hope for Everquest next? Which landmark is all they seem to be fixated on dev- side which is strange given their 2014 target release date. There's 3 months left and zero info other than sorta like landmark and the vague 3 class viginettes put out a few weeks back

Sorry, but didn't you look at youtube videos, or the WS website before you bought the game?

Now that most of the tourists are gone they have an idea of who the core players are and what resources are needed.

behold.. the MEGA.. wait for it... SERVER

yupp. If they were really implementing a mega server they would leave each server as home log in server, and then interconnect all of them (Like GW2 did, and somewhat close to what wow did with connected servers). But this article says it will become 1 pvp server and 1 pve per data center.... so yeah, they are just merging all of them.

Merging is not bad, its actually good if the game is empty. But yeah, way to mislead the unaware...

That's just one step in the right direction. Game lacks in many aspects. Let's see if they can turn the tide. I won't play it anyways but I wish you the best, Carbine.

My only real experience of a mega server is on TESO that led to loads of people being on the same solo quest as you are and what should have been fun and challenging just turned into dozens of people killing the same mobs which made it unfun and not challenging at all .

There is a market for hardcore.  But no market for hardcore linear quest hub no freedom or risk vs reward themeparks.

I prefer playing on games with one server as i always end up choosing a server that becomes dead... lol. I might givr WS a go seeing that i know there is only one place for people to go.

It doesn't work in games with RvR. You need server fights and community.

It also doesn't work in games without instances, because you'd have to make the world MASSIVE to fit everyone in it.

Basically it doesn't work for any virtual world style MMO.

For a company that presented itself as a no frills no bullshit outfit there is a surprising amount of corporate talk in that announcement. Made me lol. Like this bit:

Q 3. Are you doing Megaservers because of declining server population?

The increased server capacity to cope with the launch rush is no longer required. Megaservers allow us to increase player capacity per server so you will always have plenty of people to play with.

A "yes" would have been sufficient. Plus, reducing server count from 14 to  2 is hardly restructuring after the "initial rush."

Hmm, come to think of it, this implies only 14% of the original population remains. So WS just passed the dreaded post-launch deathspike. I hope they can stabilize and sustain the game.

No to the art style or WoW, GW2, Tera, etc. would never had made it.

If you are playing for realism, step outside, get in your car, and drive down the freeway and not get killed.

Games imho are to get your mind off of reality. Heck, I'm over 50 and just saw How to Train Your Dragon 2 and loved it! My son wouldn't see it because he thinks it's for kids. It all depends on the individual.

    Agree 100%

Btw i m 37 and tomorrow i m going to watch How to Train Your Dragon 2 with my 8 years old son :)

You will both love it! Better than the first one imho. Bring some tissue...I got a little misty. :(

I m thinking of taking also my 4 years old son, but i think its too young for it. Anyway i ll tell you my impressions tomorrow. Thx :)

I took my son to see it in IMAX 3D.  Within the first 15 minutes he had broken his 3D glasses, threw our popcorn a couple of rows over and wouldn't stop balling.  Needless to say we left after that.  Of course he is only 3 years old, but I wanted to try to see if he was ready to go to the movies with me.  Apparently not yet :(

Unfortunately they acted too slowly - for me and I am sure for others, too. I canceled mu account a few days ago due to the serious lack of people on my server. I played the ArcheAge beta last weekend and decided to sub to that instead. Plus I'm not really in to raiding, and that is what endgame in WS focuses on. It's a shame, I really like WS and thought it was going to be "my" MMO. At least ArcheAge's servers will be high pop since it has a F2P option.

The denial is strong in this thread.   In the end they will do what is necessary to make more money and make the game more viable.

    F2P and difficulty nerf.

TRUE IF they didn't have enough population rather than that i hope it becomes a niche mmo like eve online not f2p and no casual/nooby players :D, oh btw eve got rank 6 as the most profitable game in 2013 with only 500k playing it

If Carbine does not act fast  there will be complaints about how the game went on with life support and so on and so forth. If they act fast it's OMG they did not even last two months !  Basically everything they do is wrong.

The only thing they could really do wrong is do nothing. It doesn't matter if it is 2 months or 2 years, if they find a problem and are correcting it that is good! :) They have a problem with population, just like any new game has right after release, and they are working on fixing it.

To the people that love the game this is an awesome thing to have happen! Another niche game is formed in the history of mmorpgs.

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

You know posts like these don't mean squat without relevant info to back it up. If you are trying to prove someone wrong and want to talk about facts..please do give FACTS.

And high ratings are meaningless in the end when servers are dying down so fast just 2 months after release.

What the hell are players gonna do with high ratings when they have trouble finding people to play with ? seriously.

And this is coming from someone who has 300 hours played on Stormtalon but i am not going to ignore the reality which is that game isn't doing well at all.

Top 20 msot played? as if that is something to brag about.. 700K sales? post the link.

i ain't going to talk to you and deny what you said, actually i will support what you said and respect it .. it is true servers or to be exact most of the servers are low pop but i think you need to try it after the merge maybe you would like to change your mind (i'm supposingly talking to a sane man ) :D

I'm pretty sure that 700k figure appeared out of thin air since it doesn't seem to have been reported by any news site, then rambling about facts!
