In this day and age of video games, MMORPG, FPS, MOBA etc etc..
when most games are using the free to play model...
when a company comes and asks for $150, to alpha test a game, from another market, in which it failed in the original market...
I have to ask....what the flip did you expect?
The second I seen $150 for alpha access....I knew that was a cash grab, for a defunct product, that would not last any longer than the alpha period of the game itself.
This is not an "i told you so", but more of a curiosity on how this wasn't obvious?
Comments
Er, I paid $150.00, am not likely to even play the game until around December, and a I'm not complaining, who exactly is?

In other words, be very careful with what you pay for in advance, specially games!

I'm extremely satisfied with my $150 purchase, we're not all complaining.
In any other game $150 = 10 months of sub, here you get three. Looks like you made a good deal.
I'm not sure what the issue is.
for your money you got to try the game out before it was released, you get several months of subscription status, in game cash shop credits and some nifty items.
The issues with the head start are a shame. Really. But, given that the open beta seemed to be reasonably decent, their claim that they are experiencing DDOS attacks might be very real.
And, given the "crying" that some gamers seem to revel in I don't doubt that some people would resort to this.
I just spent $129 for theater tickets for last night. The dinner would have been an extra $100 had my date not insisted on paying it.
And that was "one night" of entertainment.
I'm not really bothered by the $150 entry fee given what else it grants me.

And the in game credits and being able to play the game quite some time before it was released, in game items that have an in game cash shop value.

It's not an I told you so post, it's an I am so smrt post.
Someone call the fire department.
I'm pretty close to your schedule. Bought the 150 pack awhile pack, but I just don't have time being I'm still having a lot of fun with 2 other games, but can't exactly even get to one of those very often because have a great guild in one of the games. Added there is a new Dragon Age on the horizon.
I just don't spend money I don't have........and certainly would rather wait for the content sponges and people that rush to end game before I jump in. Typically will find several great people left that really truly enjoy the game after the mad rush is over.
I've been reading some of the forums...and one would believe that an alien invasion has taken over in trion HQ, and there server rack fellover and started on fire!
Well i'm glad people are enjoying the game then. Personally, wasn't sure about the 150 plunge myself.
I've never played this game i'll admit, watched alot of videos and read alot.
More good games is more competition right?
I agree with you.
It is all a big irony to me happening in front of my eyes.
I laugh at all the new players who say how they Hate subscriptions but then go ahead an pay 3x the Subscription amount every month in a F2P game.
150$ - is 10 months Subscription or 60$ cost of the Box of the game plus another 6 months Sub, however you want to see it.
But by launch, you will pay for some extra Credits and by the 3rd month you will start paying another 15$ per month for Patronage.
So in a year you end up paying 3x as much as a Subscription P2P game.
But people will argue still that F2P is ok... LoL
Sometimes out of Vanity sometimes out of Ego, most of the times out of ignorance. We should not forget that most players are new and for them the way things are now seem like it was always like that. So they just go with the flow.

well OP..
I bought into the EQ "Landmarkt" $100 founders pack..wife and I played it maybe a month, last time I pay any money for stuff that has not been out and has reviews. I think it was just we are/were AVID EQ fans...and Landmark has nothing to do with EQ.1 or 2.
Never again, to answer your question
So is a friend who bought it.
Of course he was happy with Neverwinter's founder pack too for a few weeks.
So it's kinda hard to say how this adventure will end. :P

So what lesson did you learn ? . You didn't pay the 150 dollars so this wasn't a lesson you learned was it ? So essentially given it wasn't a lesson you learn you're assuming its a lesson that other people have learned . Given lots of people seem to be quite happy with the 150 dollars they spent you must be a bit of a immature and egotistical to make such a post .
Let me guess in the real world most people avoid you because you/'re a self opionionated anti social know it all who thinks his opinion speaks for everyone else . Maybe when you mature a bit you will find those arn't good qualties to have .
Personally I wouldn't pay 150 dollars for any game but if people want to spend their money on it that their choice . As for Archeage itself I'll be there on tuesday because from my experience in the beta its hands down the best mmo I have played since Vanilla WoW .
I just don't get why people are so willing to do this. It just makes game companies think we are all stupid.
Most players don't understand the design difference between a microtransaction and a monthly subscription game, and even less understand what it means to be just a publisher. If you add a semireputable developer to the mix, any player that hasn't experienced a similar situation would be completely disillusioned. The only part of this development that people should be angry about is that Trion blatantly misled their players to believe that they have influence over the cash shop. Everything else is about par for the course.
Actually got 8 but who gives a fuck right ? .....plus $75 worth of goodies .... isn't 150 about about 5 months worth in every other game except GW2?
The people who are really angry are those who were not looking to enjoy the game, they wanted to dominate the competition from the early access in terms of best housing and what not.
They're raging if their master plan failed to come about.
Me, I don't play enough to try and dominate anyone, I just play MMO's for enjoyment so I'm actually going to hold off even playing the live version for right now until the furor is over.

Aloha Mr Hand !
I paid for a founders pack having no knowledge of the game whatsoever. It's just the latest mmorpg, so I wanted to be there. It's probably not the last thing I'll waste money on, and it does appear to be wasted at this point.
I think you are assuming too much as to why people are angry.
If it was me, I would be pissed too. But not for the reasons you mentioned.
