Blizzard declined to offer any details about the game when I reached out yesterday, but over the past 24 hours, I've talked to half a dozen people who saw or played the ambitious project, all of whom spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to talk publicly about what they knew. They've helped paint a broad picture of what was planned for Titan in the years before the game was drastically overhauled in 2013
Everything that follows is an amalgamation of information from ex-Blizzard employees, speaking to me individually, who tested, saw, or helped develop Titan between 2007 and 2012
One thing to point out from this article is
"If you're thinking this all sounds way too cool to be buried forever, here's a bit of good news: One person connected to Blizzard told me that "a good handful" of the Titan team is actually still intact, despite yesterday's news that the game has been cancelled."
"They changed the code-name after that reboot," said that person. "So the project that was 'Titan' did die last year."
So they scrapped Titan, it doesnt mean they still arent working on whatever mmo they have been making since the time they announced they are rebooting the project.

Maybe the person was invested in Titan. Either in research or other ways *shrug*
None the less, if it had been as described it would be lot of fun. But honestly Im not quite sure what to make of it without offical gameplay info. Might be a nice mix of Destiny and <your favorite crafting game> or a total failure. But I was hoping to at least get something after all the time they spend developing it. I mean after all the time something must have been produced even if it were only some modules. Kind of a shame to see all this go to waste but I guess same could be said about Ghost about which I still think "Damn you Blizz! DAAAAAMN YOU!"
That wouldn't change the fact that all of the info can simply be posted in one thread, instead of shitting up the whole front page of the pub with a million different Titan threads.
True, no argument against that. I didnt check multi posts, still I can't find more than 2-3 posts related to Titan made by the person so I guess in that case the argument "farming posts is an art" takes over ; )
But I guess having all the info in one post might be a positive thing.
The news about the cancellation just broke yesterday and he's already created 3 separate threads about it. Meanwhile there's an official article on this site about the cancellation where people can post their thoughts. We don't need a new thread for every little detail about the same thing.

That sounds a little like Destiny, a little like Defiance, a little like Dominus and maybe a little like The Secret World. I wonder why the scrapped it.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
Wow, the game actually sounds like it could have been a lot of fun. I can't help but think that the "running your own shop" feature had been influenced by SWG in a way. Also sounds a lot like what Firefall was trying to do as a shooter but couldn't quite pull it off. Firefall, Defiance, and Global Agenda haven't exactly been very bit hits so that could add to their doubts of this living up to expectations. My guess would be that the plug was pulled because they ran into many technical problems with complex game systems, managing so many people on the project was a hindrance, and with their reputation on the line a less-than-stellar game wasn't worth it despite the $ cost.
Thats the one question we do know the answer to.

"So we set out to make the most ambitious thing that you could possibly imagine. And it didn't come together.
<p m-ad__article-body"="">"We didn't find the fun," Morhaime continued. "We didn't find the passion. We talked about how we put it through a reevaluation period, and actually, what we reevaluated is whether that's the game we really wanted to be making. The answer is no."

I KNOW! I mean seriously, it's not like the MULTIPLE threads about AA Q's /end sarcasm.
Good post, thanks for the link. It's sad they gave up on this. In the least, we had something from a major Dev house to speculate on and look forward to. It's time for Blizz to introduce some new IP into the mix.
I could have told them this would be doom.

Sorry but most gamers arent looking for that, especially MMO gamers.
This could have been done better to be more appealing to MMOFPS fans, but was a let down. Now I see why it was canceled.

I ... get it, but wow.
I'm sorry, Titan sounded ridiculous. I'm sure, if Blizzard released it, I'd have given them the benefit of the doubt and given it a serious look at. But the Sims meets Team Fortress 2? What... Da... F-?
*Jack Chan confused*
The Sims meets Team Fortess 2??
While we're at it, why don't we combine World of Warcraft and Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares and make a new game called Culinary Warlords: Draenor Bakeoff.
I doubt the problem is the "destiny" or "defiance" side of the game, it is much harder to make "mundane" jobs fun.
Sounds like a natural evolution for MMO games. This is the game we should have had a long time ago. Instead we keep queueing for instanced battlegrounds, instanced dungeons and instanced scenarios, and collecting achievements for having a complete collection of pokemons.
Now that i've heard what Titan actually was, i'm even more pissed off of the Activision influence on Blizzard's games. What i just read is a lot more an MMO than what these recent 'single player instance queueu games' we keep getting will ever be.
I hope some other company will make this game, even if it was produced by EA.
I've got a feevah, and the only prescription... is more cowbell.
Because Destiny is Titan pushed out early. Blizz built the game, Activision decides they can make more money with the HALO brand on a shooter, brings in Bungie to make a couple HALOy adjustments and so people think it's the HALO MMO they've wanted. #tinfoilhat
All it took was a few days of reactions to Destiny, and we again have verified that mmorps and shooters do not mix. I was hopeful, but Destiny has proven it to me again as well. It's just not enough mmorpg or not enough shooter. Development should see this clearly now, we don't have mmorpgs/fps as a genre, mmorpg fans have a set of expectations, fps fans just waStarcraft oot things and blow shit up. Same thing happened with ESO, they tried to go from single player rpg to mmorpg, that's a tough one, coincidentally blizzards warcraft success from rts to mmorpg came at a time when the genre knew no other like it, it took off. I also think mmorpg --> single player rpg would work , I think making a fps star craft based would work too. They have room still to expand on their big 3, Warcraft, Diablo, and Starcraft. So heres to plugging for Mmorpg based on Diablo, Fps based on starcraft, and rpg on warcraft
After reading this article all I can say was, WOW....
Thanks Bliztard for canceling what sounding like a freaking Amazing and different type of MMO!!!
Great logic you have there, no no one would have wanted to play that type of game....What were you thinking trying to develop it...
/Sarcasm off
The rumor about it might possible still be alive better be true or you just looked like a bunch of bumbling moronic idiots that wasted 10's of millions of dollars by canceling something that probably would have been a hit.

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith
Not a huge surprise tbh. If Blizzard ever attempts another MMO, they want it to be another WoW (success-wise); or close enough to it.
Titan was started at a time when companies were still trying to recreate that success story, and since we've had numerous sci-fi MMOs, all different types, all varying degrees of underwhelming by comparison. Blizz has shown they aren't really interested in investing 100+ million into a project to only get ~50mill profit. They're perfectly happy making things like hearthstone & HotS, which are cheap to make, but have large margins.
The team might still be intact, but I don't think it's realistic to expect it to still be an MMO. Especially after the latest game (Destiny) has been getting such mixed reviews, even though being a very well made game.
That would be cool.
I know there is some kid working on one (via modding SC2). But it likely won't be on the same scale as other MMOs. As for one being made by Blizz, I don't see it happening in the new future, as long as the MMO industry is as cluttered as it is, and MMOs remain being so costly (both in budget, and in resources) to make compared to other types of games.
Except Destiny is a success and millions of console gamers are playing it still
Blizzard probably "couldn't find the fun" with Titan because they have no experience with first person shooting.
Also, the AI tech for the NPCs probably didn't come together as they wanted.
It's great that Blizzard aspired to to attempt something of this scope and hopefully whatever Blizzard's Project Prometheus is it uses the ideas they began with Project Titan.
