Level 50 Blighter here in a hardcore guild. Decided to quit 3 days ago.

ArcheAge is trying to be both an Themepark & Sandbox MMORPG, unfortunately it seems both are shafted.

Other games just do it so much better than ArcheAge.

  • cowheadcowhead Member UncommonPosts: 94

Because the game feels like a farming/trading sim. Not an MMO.

  • collect0rcollect0r Member UncommonPosts: 1

Well where do i start, every founder has paid good money to get a head start in the game and every founder has been shafted with the loss of labor and the lack of connection to the servers. and thank you for replying to my emails and live chat panels even if it was 7 days later.

    Graphical experience.

the graphics on archeage are nice but almost every location ie inside houses areas houses and castles are almost the same as any other maybe if the devs had spent some time adding character to the areas and actually making buildings different and interesting to make the users experience a lot better instead of making people think oh another house with a candle stool and bookcase.

    Questing.

the story suddenly dies, has anyone known any mmo that does not have a story to the end that keeps you interested and playing the game, this one stopped for me at level 19 when i got my level 30 cloak.... the other quests are exactly the same in every area ... work butt off dodging 12 yr olds killing you while you either kill 3 5 8 or 15 types of a certain mob or collect 3 5 8 or 15 items which are always within a circled area near the npc unless its a link to next area.

    PVP

the biggest problem in my opinion. a lot of people do not do pvp and i think there should be a toggle that puts the players ie lvl 50 in a group of people that actually give a hoot about pvp.

    Drops and rewards

man why do i need so many food items and purses if this is supposed to be realistic why charge me real money to open them after i have spent my own money and time collecting them. wheres random chests and loot rather than following your boring quests to get something with 8-10  extra damage.

    classes......

i played sorcery yet every battle i got caught up in meant i was incapicitated 2 seconds before i could do a thing thanks to the stealthed people we cant see do anything about and die rather rapidly from in a deja vu type manner. plus to cap it all we cannot attack them unless they attack us..

    Housing

not enough space at all,  plenty of places for the gods to steal your trade pack yet not enough room for patrons to use.

    LABOR!!!!!!!

every day i played i could get about 1000 labor to use on crafting, yet if i craft i cant trade run unless i spend real money on extra labor points and thats as a patron.

so in my own opinion i give this game a 3.0 on mmorpg.com and thats just because of the different types of crafting

    lol.

It's one thing not to trust reviews or forums trolls or your run of the mill hater. But the game flopped in two countries and yet somehow people still hyped it.

People are still playing it happily and are going to be all gung ho for a bit yet, but once the non-pvp obsessed crowd they'll soon tire of what amounts to playing farmville in 3D and fighting off griefers. And once they leave, the "OWPvP" crowd will slowly leave and go back to complaining that some other upcoming game is not OWPvP. They can protest and deny it all they want, but they really just want to kill players who are preoccupied with other activities and who aren't ready/able to fight back.

Don't want to criticize the game too much, but here is why I may be hanging it up.

    1. Very PvP centric and just not enough PvE in the game to keep me interested. The game needs a healthy balance of both for me to enjoy for months on out. If you enjoy long term PvP and Crafting for PvP, well, this definitely is your game. If your trying to play the game as a open world (sandbox) mmorpg, why have restrictions on what you can do. Give us the sand to make our own content for the player base this includes making quests and goals. Let the PvP players PvP and let the PvE players PvE. Don't force anything upon a player even if they don't want to participate.

    2. The housing system feels very limited, unfortunately you can't just put down a farm / house anywhere in the world, the game keeps everyone together to survive as a community which could be a good thing and a bad things as well. I guess I am just used to the old SWG housing style system and I understand this isn't SWG. I also understand the game is very dependent on you being in a guild (which to can be a good thing and a bad thing). The game isn't made for long term solo players.

    3. I just started to realize now on why that made this game F2P.

However if your a player that enjoys this.

    1. Guild interaction and working as a whole to get things done, you will enjoy this game.

    2. If PvP is your endgame experience and grouping up with your guild to slaughter your enemy, you will enjoy this game.

    3. If you like to be a real estate tycoon and sell property, you will enjoy this game.

    4. If you find crafting and farming is exciting every time you log on, you will enjoy this game.

    5. If you down with Korean graphics, you were enjoy this game.

Had the been there done that feel to it.  I never felt immersed in the game and expected more.  It felt like a typical asian grinder and I didnt feel anything while playing it.

I read all the thread until page 4 (the current), and nothing is new and suprising to me. I already said which kind of players would probably dislike AA in another thread (that was locked). Basicaly, in these 4 pages i read, i saw a combination of 3 kinds of player: Content Rusher/Instant Gratification seeker, carebears,  Soloers and so on.

Once that crowd get away from AA and go back to WoW or some other new themepark, AA will stabilize with a population made of its initial target public.

I started watching this mmo a couple of years ago. I do not remember the online magazine, but I do remember Jake Song saying he wasn't in too much of a hurry to release Archeage originally to the US. I think I understand this now. However, at the same time Mr Song did say a dream of his early in his career was to create a successful mmo in the Western market NA/EU. It is very important I would think for any game to make a good showing in the western market.

I feel XLGames were a bit stringent with Trion and whether it could make the transfer to western cultural style a bit smoother. Some of the issues we saw were Trion's, but others were definitely on XL, I do feel. At any rate, I joined a friend's guild and we got underway on day one. Stressful. That word best describes the feeling of Archeage from the very beginning.

I will play this out to 50. I will continue on my farms and help the guild where I can. My Patron status ends on Nov. 14th, 2014. I shall not renew. Most of what has been stated here and on other blogs and forums makes it quite clear that it is simply not an mmo for everyone. I shall walk away because there are several other mmo's that provide a much better experience than does this one.

I would like to add how unfortunate it appears that so much "in your face" pvp within faction continent rather than working cooperatively to attempt an all out amphibious raid at several points throughout the "opposing faction's" continent. We are asked to choose a side. However more than half of ALL pvp occurs within the borders of faction continents over trade packs. Yep, this is a centerpiece of the mmo. But, are we not suppose to fight together against that "other faction"? Yes, we do see this type of warfare in special areas. To me, it just really feels a bit like Rift's warfronts and WoW's battlegrounds. It would seem faction splitting in this particular mmo just fails to work all that well when most of the pvp happens within the supposed safe confines of your own faction's borders.

Imagine the epic battles of the two sets of factions planning and preparing strategies for raids across the seas to land on the opposing continent to attempt to hold land. At this time, I do not see this happening before Christmas if ever.

Oh well, I spent my money and played alpha thus I can say it isn't all that deep for me. But I have met some truly interesting folks and several I do hope I will again join in other mmo's.

    Quit?

After all the time I have put into this game why would I quit now?  I mean I have been queued since beta and now there are only 3,456 players in front of me!!!

This MMO or the theme park 'line ride' is freaking awesome!!!

I bought a silver founder's pack, then put about $20 into getting some credits. It was a horrible mistake. The labor point system makes accomplishing much crafting-wise dependent on those stupid labor pots (or taking a week off the game).

The combat system is not enough to keep me interested, and the crafting system is behind a facebook style pay barrier. That was it for me.

  • psiicpsiic Member RarePosts: 1,642

Quit because Trion are thieves, liars, and criminals.

Still have not received my founder's pack items or a refund.

As soon as I filled a complaint with the California BBB Trion outright refused to help me.

Even though I have a copy of the live chat where the CSR GM flat out states he verified I have still not received my items.

At this point I have contacted American Express and they are disputing the charge.

Hopefully this will resolve it, but I will NEVER do business with Trion again.

I can't really stand by games that keep giving us the same thing.

Anyone that defines their experience of AA by the tutorial that are the intitial quest hubs hasn't played this game at all before IMO. They have just played the small part of this game that (by design) resembles current mainstream design in an effort to ease new players into the giant complex world.

Yes, the game 'gets good' after that tutorial or, if you choose, anytime before. But, yes, most conditioned by the games that the devs have emulated in order to help newbies only see the one path and come away with a feeling of the familar.

Saying that AA, as a whole and not as one of it's components (let alone such a small one as it's quests) is giving the 'same thing' as the standard linear narrow 100% themepark  is clearly said by someone that played it's quests, stopped at it's quests, and came forth with an opinion on the whole based on a part.

Such a view, IMO, is narrow, jaundiced, and flawed.

This thread linked below (first and seconf post) already covers the kind of players and their reaons to dislike archeage. Pretty much every reason stated here is already covered there. Is good to nobody be "surprised" or repeat the same things again and again.

Tried AA in beta and again yesterday. All it did was reconfirm to me that AA is a poor quality buggy mess of a game that feels entirely like a P2W cash-grab delivered to you fresh from Asian internet cafes and very little else. There are far better and higher quality games to spend your time in.

I also think the high queue times are caused by bots and gold farmers trying to cash in on the early hype of the game, rather then being swamped with actual legit players. Just in the starter area alone there was at least 10 people standing around with the typical nonsense bot names and they were out farming all over the place, outnumbering actual players a fair bit. And the gold spam is horrific, including one clever guy who managed to prevent his name displaying in the spam message though some kind of hack so you can only block him by others telling you what his name was from before and manually banning him via typing in the command.

    My philosophy has always been play the game as intended by the designers.  If I do not like it, then I move on.  That being said, there are a few changes that IMHO would improve the game experience in AA;

    1.  No same faction PvP.  Same faction PvP defeats the entire purpose of having factions.  Perhaps in other regions of the world allowing for same faction PvP works.  In NA, it does not.  IMO, NA has the worst PvP communities in the world.  The PvP culture in NA is all about ganking and being a douche.  No one works together to accomplish anything.  If they can kill you, they will do so, period.  Ganking and being a douche is the norm for NA PvP.

    2.  Teleport system should be simplified.  It takes a tremendous amount of time and effort to get around.  And it is especially onerous if you have to continuously travel back and forth across continents to tend to crops and home.

    3.  There should be an option for solo play.  It shouldn't be easy, but it should be possible.  Currently, nothing can be accomplished in this game without a guild or a gang of friends.  This is just poor game design that will cause AA  to lose gobs of potential customers that enjoy playing solo.  Group play should be a encouraged but there should always be an option for solo play.

    4.  PvP should be faction based and players should have the option to flag for faction PvP.  It worked beautifully for SWG, it can be made to work for AA as well.  Simply make the rewards greater if completing objectives while flagged for PvP.  This just goes hand in hand with "the greater the risk, the greater the reward."  Forced non-consensual PvP is just bad game design.  There should always be an option for a player to play the game in the manner that it is enjoyable to the player.

funny how every one is ignoring the people who like the game and have nothing better to do than bitch in a topic not related to them as they still play.

I quit before it launched played cbt, could tell straight away it was another typical clunky as fuck asian mmorpg.

  • WaldoCornWaldoCorn Member UncommonPosts: 235

At this point I wont say I'm quitting, rather I am looking elsewhere for a game, and not finding one, so I will be watching TV.

The server lag has killed the emersion for me, and once that's gone, well I might as well be watching TV.

I like the game fine in all the other respects as much or more than any other game I've played.

I'm glad I didn't actually spend money on it. Like a public restroom, if its filthy don't touch anything and leave quickly.

Which isn't hate, there isn't a single game out there that can rate as high as this one, to me, polish or no.

In other words if this is a filthy public restroom, that games list in the upper left, is an open cesspool with a diving board.

They polish the lag I'll put down the remote.

When u hit 50 u need to spend like 90000000000000000000000000000000 LP

And some 9000000000000000000000000 gold to actualy craft somthing u could use back when u where 44.

For me it was pretty simple. i logged on made my character choose my skills then got into the game. Once in the game i walked 10 feet foward and saw a giant yellow   !   and some voice started telling what the   !    is for. when i see this in any MMO i uninstall, i go no farther i just uninstall. and this has saved me some money over the years.
