Its hard to accept why someone fails to explain why they like something done better elsewhere. A quick glance at his post history tells me all I need to know.

Frankly all he said was "I like how risk vs reward feels" that is not exclusive to AA, and in fact is done badly compared to other games.
I bet I would find the same white knighting if I were to bother looking at your post history as well. Good day sir, I do hope you go back to AA sooner than later.
P.S. I think this reads like a paid advertisement for a subpar product, perhaps thats what irks me, the attempt at bamboozling some poor sucker into something by being vague.
I like this game, although I don't kid myself as to what it really is, which is a Korean grindfest with the focus being on getting money from the players.
Take me for example, I don't like crafting and I'm not into Farmville type games which in AA leaves me to PvP and PvE. As far as PvE goes I am a tank with my Hasla weapon so what's next? GHA but wait, I can't tank GHA because I don't have a full end game cloth set for tanking the second boss. Ok I will run as melee DPS but wait, people don't want melee DPS for GHA and it's hard to find tank and healers.
As far as PvP goes, there is too much imbalance in small team PvP, meaning a mage will always beat a plate wearer, a tank will always beat a rogue, etc. Which basically leaves you with large scale PvP which is essentially a zergfest and the people with greater numbers usually win. Also since this game is not an action based skill game 8/10 the player with superior gear will win.
There is one way to overcome both of these issues, spend RL money to buy cash shop items I can sell in game to buy or craft the best high end gear. Sure this can be done without spending RL $$ if I wanted to invest a ton of time in trade runs and farming but as I stated earlier, I don't enjoy that.
There are other ways to avoid a losed and outnumbered fight like not fighting till you see a possibility because other groups/hard mobs interaction or attack a group you can win or outnumber. Why your group of 5 needs to attack a 50 man raid for example? You can have a cleric with group invis or a bard with group spring, mount, say byebye...
There are always strategies for people who takes the time and effort to figure them, but using the brain seems kinda hard these days...
"But using the brain seems kinda hard these days..."
And there is the core of the AA fans argument. Im smarter than you, Im tougher than you, Im a better gamer than you.
In the end I assure you that type of attitude is not winning over new players. And what fun is a game with new players being put off by the game design and being told "You're not good enough for AA.""

Because it is true. That is the kind of game Archeage is. And if you are going to make the complaints that Spankster is then you probably should not be playing it. Either know your limitations in the game or get out.

FFA Nonconsentual Full Loot PvP ...You know you want it!!
Im a 40 years old gamer playing this genre since UO and want to tell you the things I saw that in my opinion are making this game to be a gem, a true diamond for my taste:
The Faction Open world PvP pops everywhere in a meaningful way. You loot honor points from your enemy (im amazed with this) only during conflicts, peace for all in peace time (people uses this time to commerce with trade packs). Honor weapons decay in a month so you need to keep your honor high everytime. The faction pvp is just everywhere, you see enemy raids at your city door many times! very innovative and amazing good idea.
PKing : can be done everywhere xcept in peace time zone. you lose nothing XCEPT TRADE PACKS wich is the best idea in a mmorpg since Ultima Online because , U being PKed? ok, lost nothing! U being PKed while commerce? Man FIGHT FOR YOUR MONEY! The thrill starts when u are carrying a trade pack and see a green bar turn to gray. You need to have eyes in your back, paranoic, thrilling...Simply genius from XLGames.
People figures trade routes between "in peace" territories, sometimes they risk a bit going through a conflict or sea to win more money, RISK VS REWARD at its best. I have seen lots of people jumping from zeppelin to a very fast river to do a trade route faster or safer, some others lose dps skills to have invis, invuls, blinks, or bard sprints to do commerce, use your brain MMORPG, just plain amazing.
If you didnt try the game or played it and leave cause the boooring tutorial that is quest leveling to 50, give it another chance because the game SHINES at lvl 50, really.
So must one endure the 50 levels of mundane quests just to get to the good part? I personally like to enjoy the leveling part, hence why I am not a power gamer/rush to 50 sort of player. I'm really giving a go at this game but the questing is absolutely one of the worst I have ever seen (worse than Tera by far IMO).
It's almost to the point I'd rather have someone play my character to 50 because the quest line is so boring.

Youre right he brought up UO so I inferred there was a comparison there. Ive actually seen complaints in several places about lack of naval warfare including here, as well as the official forums.
Hes not sharing a good experience per say, hes citing 1 vague game mechanic that has been done far better elsewhere. To me its like saying he loves driving a geo metro, even though theres better cars, and then he fails to give any significant reasons why he loves something that has been done so much better else where in the past.

Yes and that is what I look for in an MMO: the journey. I could give a rat's ass about endgame. Is the fun limited to post 50? If so, it seems to me then that the game is geared more towards the power leveling crowd.
Edit: on a sidenote, DF:UW offers PVP with risk/reward. So although it may not be oh so common in themeparks these days, it does exist in other games.
Edit: In game now, asking around the guild I joined and apparently they say it's recommended to do all quests to 50. Ugh. Also they mentioned game is more about endgame than anything else. This true? Because I'm more of a "journey" person.
LOL there really isn't much good or meaningful about pvp in this game. Lose a tradepack? Take a tradepack? Whoopty frickin doo! A tradepack costs no more than 1.5-2G to make which is essentially nothing in this game. Maybe a sheltered WoW scrub would find it fun and exciting but anyone that has played anything with full loot or meaningful death penalties will think its a joke and waste of time.
Want to gain honor for pvp? Good luck 80% of the day or more you won't be gaining honor for open world pvp. You'll just be ganking scrubs farming or getting ganked if your a bad. The way the "zones" and war timer is set up there is a 1.5-2hour peace period (depends on zone) where nobody can fight anyone even the opposing faction, then they go through 5 levels of "crisis" with each level requiring 100 kills in the zone to advance to the next level (no honor is gained during this time), and finally a 1 hour 20 minute war (the only time you can gain honor). Many of the zones never make it to the "war" faction as they are just not populated enough to get the 500 kills required to kick off the war. (this is from the most populated US server Kyrios, I can only imagine its even worse elsewhere)
Battleground is an absolute joke. You can 1v1 or 5v5 in a single arena, thats it. O yeah there is no team Q so you'll have to coordinate clicking with any friends and guess what its cross faction teams except you can't speak the other faction's language so you won't even be able to communicate with multiple teammates.
Any large scale pvp takes virtually no coordination and is merely a giant CC zergfest with the winner being determined primarily by the aggressiveness and size of their zerg. (basically the side with the most pussies running away instead of fighting gets gobbled up)
Not too mention lag/server issues, and of course there is no ability Q so it really hurts you the higher your ping, anything over 50 ping hurts and over 100 ping puts you at a serious disadvantage to those with less than 50 ping.
As the gearing system heavily influences your damage output and defense the game heavily favors the P2W crowd as well as the gear grinders. (massive difference in damage, like being able to 2 shot a same level character and they can barely scratch you if hurt you at all type of difference)
CC is out of control, there are no diminishing returns and many, many different cc abilities. Fighting outnumbered? not in this game if the others aren't afk they can chain stun you no problem.
There are alot of problems with pvp in this game, it is mediocre at best anyone that says otherwise hasn't played it enough or doesn't know what good pvp is.

I am playing it knowing fully what the game is about... Grind and cash shop. There is no secret that AA has tons of grind which is fairly common in most Korean MMOs and that with random chests, workers comp potions, APEX, etc all available with real life money outside the game has a huge impact on the game itself.
For all the people kidding themselves into thinking AA is a "hardcore" PvP game, it's not. The outcome of PvP in this game is dictated heavily by class/gear/numbers because there is no balance between the classes/gear. If you are wearing plate and a ranged magic damage dealer attacks you, you are dead 9/10 x's. If someone is in full GHA gear and you are wearing quest gear you will be beat 9/10 x's. Don't believe me, look up Defiler class on google, you will see a really geared lvl 50 jumping into crowds of other less geared lvl 50's just taking them out 5 + at a time.
I will keep playing AA knowing very well what kind of game it is. In fact tonight I think I may purchase some credits so I can buy my GHA gear. What I won't do is fool myself into thinking I am a super cool hardcore gamer when I pwn people with the gear my RL money paid for.
This is not an AA flame post, it's the truth, I know it burns sometimes.

Hey whats your version of good PvP numbers guy?
FFA Nonconsentual Full Loot PvP ...You know you want it!!
Here's the deal everyone's opinion on what makes good pvp is different, but that doesn't mean they should get a pass on designing their version of pvp well. Personally I enjoyed original Darkfall's setup tremendously. But since thats the past here is a few things they could do to dramatically improve their version of pvp. Unfortunately this game has been out for years already so none of these fixes or improvements will ever happen.

Introduce more meaningful penalties for death or increase the value of trade runs/packs dramatically in pvp zones.

(this is from the most populated US server Kyrios, I can only imagine its even worse elsewhere) An alright system but zones that aren't highly populated need the crisis levels to auto increase once an hour, some zones never get to war before server down and it resets.
At the most basic level enable chat just in the BG with your teammates of opposing factions. Also, a team Q, new BG's and larger BG's like 10v10 or 15v15 would be nice. (its been years no updates anytime soon if ever are coming)
Any large scale pvp takes virtually no coordination and is merely a giant CC zergfest with the winner being determined primarily by the aggressiveness and size of their zerg. (basically the side with the most pussies running away instead of fighting gets gobbled up) Tough to fix because of the nature of the game, it is what it is.
Not too mention lag/server issues, and of course there is no ability Q so it really hurts you the higher your ping, anything over 50 ping hurts and over 100 ping puts you at a serious disadvantage to those with less than 50 ping. This game was made for Korea where ping problems are nonexistent so no ability Q'ing and other lag limitors were built in. That doesn't translate well in to markets where ping can play a huge role like the U.S. and EU. (again no fix anytime soon if ever coming)
As the gearing system heavily influences your damage output and defense the game heavily favors the P2W crowd as well as the gear grinders. (massive difference in damage, like being able to 2 shot a same level character and they can barely scratch you if hurt you at all type of difference) Not fixable at this point and highly imbalanced. Remember this is a Korean grinder so they either make you pay up RL$$$$ or grind till your eyeballs bleed, but once you do its almost godmode.
CC is out of control, there are no diminishing returns and many, many different cc abilities. Fighting outnumbered? not in this game if the others aren't afk they can chain stun you no problem. Simple add diminishing returns.
There are alot of problems with pvp in this game, it is mediocre at best anyone that says otherwise hasn't played it enough or doesn't know what good pvp is. The worst problem is that you can easily look ahead to the future of the game as it already exists in Korea. None of these issues will be fixed and they are not even talked about being fixed. It is what it is and for the record I am still playing as well but I won't last much longer its getting old real quick.

If you had the trouble to see my post history maybe you want to look a little better and you will see that yes im a fan of AA but not a blind one, i know the flaws of AA and i know it could be better and alot of things could be improve, but still is the best i can get to what im looking in a mmorpg atm and im very happy playing it.
But seems is useless to discuss with you based in the speculations you made about myself wich i considering totally unecessary.
Its really sad the way you behave, so im out and let you continue your campaing against a game you dont play.
I am 39, and OP you must not have very high standards for pvp if you get amazed about honor points. I also like the fact you say that small guilds or solo's can't make it to Freedrech Island because of the "hundreds" of people camping it, /laugh. I like the game, I play it. I have over 500 kills now in open world and around 4k honor. I have all classes but 2 to 50 (Archmaster Title here I come!) and I spend more time on the game daily then most....
That said. The ONLY reason I do is because there is no better option out there, not because Archeage is a great game. Because it isn't. The amount of hacks, bugs and lag is tremendous, the pvp system is poorly thought out, for example, PK attacks you first, you respond and put a dot on him, PK WHILE IN PK MODE runs to a FACTION guard and YOU get killed because your dot is the first bit of aggression the npc see's. Want to use your cool new stun break? Awesome, now when you press the button hope you don't get 2 second skill lag then end up fried because in reality you were dead before you even saw the skill hit.
Want to do Arena's? Sure have fun as you deal with people who lag out so your skills report they aren't facing the right way, one shot kill hacks, speed hacks, repeatable teleport before timer is up hack (No, not passived blink from auramancy) Want land? Too bad! Hackers now control the majority of all land that is being freed up from timers expiring. So while I enjoy the game because there isn't anything else out there as soon as something even half decent develops Archeage population is going to die out like the plague and then they will wish they had pushed XL harder to fix these issues quicker.
Want help from Customer Service? Wait 2 weeks for a response of "Do you still want help?" then wait another week after multiple emails, tweets to Scapes and Trion, and updating the ticket saying you need help still... then they will tell you they don't have the ability to look into the issue you are having and that they need to contact XL Games (Seem like a reocurring excuse, if if they aren't blaming DDoS attacks, they blame XL Games)
So yea, if they fix the issues it might be a great game then, which they won't since they are still in EVERY single territory from Korea, Japan, Russia to NA none of the major hacks or bugs have been fixed and I am slowly losing the interest even with the fact this game is the only thing out there worth playing.. It is fast becoming a point where I would rather eat dirt and wait for EQN to hope they don't fuck up that title then play this shit infested game anymore.
The people that are trying to make the world worse never take a day off , why should I. Light up the darkness Bob Marley
I'll check it out again in a few months. It sucked me in for a while because like an above poster said, there's not much else like it out there. But the hacking is too much. I'm a competitive player and I know that there are players on my server who did not earn their galleons and their epic delphinad crap the honest way. And that these things are still allowed to exist is enough to put me off.
I'll also say that it's borderline mandatory that you play this game with friends/a guild. You will be spinning your wheels if you don't. That's not a bad thing, I'm just saying.
The pvp is bad, the pve is terrible, the game has huge grinds built in and a really distasteful labor points system, and is blatantly p2w - in fact the most p2w game I have ever played.
And yet, I am loving it. I don't know exactly what it is, but I always seem to have so much to do in game, and there is so many things I can work towards. The way the world is set up, I just seem to have quite a few amazing mmo moments that I don't recall in other mmos I have played.
So I can understand where the OP is coming from; even though I think the pvp is largely a joke in AA there is still enough sense of danger combined with many game elements designed to get players out into the world that make it special.
The pvp is bad, the pve is terrible, the game has huge grinds built in and a really distasteful labor points system, and is blatantly p2w - in fact the most p2w game I have ever played.

To me its like saying he loves driving a geo metro, even though theres better cars, and then he fails to give any significant reasons why he loves something that has been done so much better else where in the past.
Why is so complicate to understand that for some players AA might be the best game to play atm?
I dont like ESO but i accept that for some is the best.
I dont like EVE but i accept that for some is the best.
I dont like WoW but i accept that for ALOT is the best.
I dont see nothing special in Life is Feudal but i accept for some is the hope.
Some people dont like AA and i accept that.
Is not that hard to accept that people have diferent tastes.
Its hard to accept why someone fails to explain why they like something done better elsewhere. A quick glance at his post history tells me all I need to know.
He's free to like it all he wants I support that, but blind fanaticism.....
If thats is what make you happy so be it.
What Ive been campaigning against is the PR spins the apologists keep putting out there to mask AA's and Trion's shortcomings. Trust me if you took your army of white knighters and apologists and went against mine and everyone who has seen through AA for what it is, you'd lose that fight. three months from now when you like most AA players (minus the 10 or so "hardcore" defenders left) are no longer playing it, you will find some other game to emotionally invest in and grudgingly agree with me. Trust me on that.

Im not fighting against no one. Im in a forum discuss diferent opinions about mmorpgs, and in this particular case AA.
Our opinons about AA are like black and white and that could made a nice discuss if you didnt ruin acuse me for been payed by Trion, didnt like it i find it tottaly unecessary.
I have 6 months allready playing AA, counting with other region, and still love the game. If im going to like in other 6 months or not i dont know and i dont care atm, only care about now.
With XLGames/Trion might change the game for better or worse, i dont know and im not worry. Atm im having alot of fun in AA with some friends and that is all it matters. I worry about future in RL, in games only today matters to me.

I have to agree, this game is quite dangerous too if you get hooked.
I'm 34 my self with pregnant wife + 3yo, but my wife play too when we have time.
The fact that the PVP fights are a bit slow is actually very nice. You have some time to think which is needed when you pass 25
Setting off in the clipper with the wife and a couple trade packs to the other continent never fails to bring excitement!
Just have to balance it to irl..

Remember when MMOs were about the journey, and not the destination?
Ha! I used to have a Geo Metro...
Yea, it is a failing of most MMOs that they can't make that journey fun.
I am playing AA as I really can't seem to find anything better out there at this time. With that said sadly I can't really disagree with most of what you typed.
Hey whats your version of good PvP numbers guy?

One month passed and I'm still having a blast every single day.
That is all.
(I have two 50's atm )
The pvp is bad, the pve is terrible, the game has huge grinds built in and a really distasteful labor points system, and is blatantly p2w - in fact the most p2w game I have ever played.
