I'm looking for any MMORPG that has these requirements:
AC1 style of character development. I don't want to be forced into a path, I want to develop my character as I see fit.
Housing. I want to own a place I can call home. I want to fix it up and decorate.
Pets. I want a pet too!
Transportation. Horses, vehicles, I don't care. I don't want to run slowly from one point to another. I'd love being able to fight from atop my mount.
PK. I want to PK, but I don't want total chaos. There should be penalties with killing someone much lower in level or someone of my own race/ally.
Alternative methods of leveling. I don't want to have to kill critters all day long.
No forced grouping. I like to play with others, but I also want to log in for an hour or two of gameplay and not have to find a group to do so.
Monthly updates. I want the world to evolve with new quests etc.

i believe anarchy online meets most of those.
"This is the beginning of a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it for good. What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever; in its place is something that you have left behind...let it be something good."

Have a look at Warhammer Online - not out till some time next year, but it's got a really interesting skills and career progression system from WH fantasy role play + player controlled horses (ie ride where you like not just bus routes) to boot!
Not been too much coverage about it on this site, but the forums are really active at warhammeronline.com check it out.

Kewl, I'll check into the above suggestions.
I forgot to include that I'd prefer a fantasy setting. Sci fi is ok, but...
Is EQII getting away from forced grouping?
It sounds like you should check out StarWarsGalaxies, It has pretty much everything you just described. Last week they jut implemented player mounts, meaning you can ride things. Check out the website www.starwarsgalaxies.com
Woot!
I'm glad to they are finally going to fix the biggest problem in EQ. People can solo to much. No one ever groups... why would want to with so much easy solo exp. I heard bards were getting into PoTime solo! That's just wrong!
I'm going to play EQ2. Why the heck would I want to play a game were I can pop in do something for 20 or 30 minutes then pop out and actually achieve something? That's not fun. What's fun is sitting around LFG for hours, watching others kill mobs because you picked a class that really isn't needed or they have a BoT of your class.
And you know what's really really fun? Playing a game more hours than I spend at work!
Btw I think the original poster said he wanted to PK.
"In other words, [we] currently have far fewer roles (tank, healer, mezzer, etc.) than you have classes. This can be problematic." - Brad McQuad 2002.

Achievers realise that killers as a concept are necessary in order to make achievement meaningful and worthwhile (there being no way to "lose" the game if any fool can "win" just by plodding slowly unchallenged). -bartle

lol, I assume that your being a bit sarcastic above!
I prefer to have the ability to solo in a mmorpg because I don't always have the time to play. Work/family doesn't allow me to go into a game with four plus hours to spare. So during the week I like to go in for a short period of time, kill some stuff to relieve tension, or take care of some misc stuff, then get out. On the weekend, I'll try to get enough time to get with friends or a group and run a couple of quests.
Yes, I do want the ability to PK. I've found that as a game ages, adding in a PK factor makes the game challenging again. I don't want total PK chaos, but something that adds interest over time.
