I'm highly disappointed that a gaming company with as deep a pockets as Blizzard couldn't come up with anything more, but a re-skinned TF2 cash-grab arena game.

same here feeling ,but for true this game show us ; MMO genre is at edge of dead or deep in crisis, i hope companies ll keep old good mmo's servers live for many incoming years coz nothing new in genre
Similarities are a good thing to those that keep an open mind. I would actually play this, considering I enjoyed both FireFall and TF2 and this has a lot of unique elements that are more than enough to make this a standalone game. That said, I'm hoping for more customization than just the skin selling model that LoL has, which seems to be where this is going. I'm also hoping for progression, gear, and PvE modes, but I'm expecting them to not disappoint on that.
It DOES look awesome and hope those into these types of games enjoy it however I concur with some other's comments - I want an mmo from Blizzard not some shallow pvp fps - they just alienated a huge part of their playbase - this will be the 1st time in history since Diablo that I DIDN'T buy a Blizzard game

21:47: Since there’s no campaign, is there any in-game story? Metzen says not really, the individual stories of matches won’t be a larger narrative. Kaplan says the characters will show some amount of backstory in game through their chatter. While what happens on them won’t be, maps themselves will be part of the story and reference events in the world.

Blizz has other IPs that are as established, if not more so, than Warcraft was when WoW was released (Diablo, Starcraft), yet none of those games have MMOs based on them, nor are there any plans for any....why on earth are you suggesting that Blizzard's goal is "establish new IP, make it popular, then create MMO"....
They have only created 1 MMO in their entire existance (less than pretty much any company who has ever created an MMO), and have specifically said that they don't want to be known as an "MMO company".

Looks like a rip of Gearbox' Battleborn to me. Blizzard will make their own version of course and do a good job, but I'm going to go with Battleborn at this point as being the game with more satisfying heart.
Have played: Everquest, Asheron's Call, Horizons, Everquest2, World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online, Warhammer, Age of Conan, Darkfall

Actually, it's not that crazy of a thought. Blizzard did have plans to make a Diablo MMO. It's funny because I just found this info today over here.
"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb
It's pretty sad...Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm and now Overwatch...all cheap, shallow and instant gratification games.
Then I read that they were considering a Diablo-universe MMO, but not anymore...and I'm like what the hell, how come Blizzard developers cant see the apocalyptical potential of a Diablo MMO and are satisfied with making Overwatch instead?
It saddens me...if even a company like Blizzard, which has the potential of making a huge blockbuster (Diablo MMORPG), even bigger than WoW, settles for meaningless, forgetable and cheap games like Overwatch and Hearthstone...whats going to happen to MMOs?
Btw MMORPG staff, in my opinion this subject is article worthy

I love the revisionist history that goes on with some of you and Blizzard.......Blizz started as a company making what you call "cheap instant gratification games" (Lost vikings, rock and roll racing, Blackthorn etc). You people forget that blizzard went from 2004-2010 without releasing a single new game....now that all of their focus is no longer on wow alone, they have been releasing sequals (mighty fine sequals at that) to their most beloved franchises such as starcraft and Diablo, and are going back to developing relativly small and very fun games that they were known for (one could argue that all of their RTS games fall into that catagory as well).
We get it....you hate Blizzard for pretty much shutting down your MMO of choice and somehow ruining the genre, but please don't all of a sudden try to imply that Blizzard developing games like HS, HoTS, and Overwatch is somehow "not like them" lol.

What millions of subscribers hasn't taught them, irony probably won't either. Perhaps the idiots who said that should step back and ask Shatner, Nimoy, Takei, Stewart, and a handful of other prominent Star Trek actors how successful the mindset of not wanting to be typecast into Star Trek forever worked out. Today these ideologues aren't turning away thousands of dollars at every convention signing autographs and taking pictures because of that typecast.
Blizzard and its shills should come down off of the high horse and soon. They should not turn their backs and development skills away from what has made them millions of dollars, the MMO. They'll lose much much more than just money if they abandon this subscriber player base.

WoW isn't going anywhere, what the hell are u talking about :P
great my MMORPG is WILDSTAR, my MOBA is LEAGUE OF LEGENDS, my FPS is OVERWATCH, my RTS is starcraft 2 or torchlight 2 and my card game is HEARTHSTONE an AMAZING COLLECTION , but to be honest i think i will be sticking into 2 wildstar and overwatch , enough anything else..
I really like the looks of it, but I wish it wasn't TF2. I suppose it makes sense though. Blizzard seems to be trying to get its foot into every style of game.
Having said that, what style of game is next for them? So far they have RTS, MMORPG, TCG, MOBA, and now a coming team based FPS. Driving/flying simulator? Survival game? Typing tutor? Oh I know! A voxel game! Or maybe a Pokemon game. A voxel Pokemon game that's a typing tutor survival simulator!
Blizzard, when you become even more mega wealthy than you are now because of your up and coming Voxel Pokemon Typing Tutor Survival Simulator (VPTTSS) don't forget about my cut!
I'm quite surprised by this thread. A lot of "No MMO? WTF!!" and "Your dead to me Blizzard" and "Forget your playerbase and you'll lose money" type of comments. Apparently some folks aren't as familiar with Blizzard as they think. Blizzard has been diversifying the genre's that they have games for, for years.
First it was the instant gratification games, then they went RTS and Blew up. Continued with the RTS for 2 IP's then went to a hack n slash. Then after an expansion they went MMO so on and so forth. Not really surprising that they are trying out another genre they have yet to make a game for. Although wasn't StarCraft Ghost supposed to be a FPS that never made it? I forget, maybe someone else recalls.
In the end, Blizzard will do what they always do. Try a new genre, eventually go back to making some updates to other IP's and eventually after that a new game. Anyone who is clamoring for a MMO from Blizzard needs to learn Blizzards Golden Rule:
"If you want it, your gonna have to wait for it. FOR A LLLOOONNNNGGG TIME!"
Blizzard always takes a long time to release anything and to announce anything. I'm sure they will have another MMO, maybe even the Diablo MMO mentioned above, but your gonna have to wait a long time for it. Hell I remember hearing about WOW and waiting years just for it to be officially announced and then you STILL had a LONG development cycle to sit through. Blizzard hasn't abandoned anyone, but if you want another MMO, strap in and begin the wait, cause it's gonna be awhile. I would estimate announcement by 2017 with a release around 2020 or so, but that's pure spit balling on my end. With Overwatch actually going beta 2015, you may want to push those dates back by 2-3 years too.
Back to the game at hand:
This game looks pretty cool, FPS TF2 style with a hint at some MOBA mechanics. I'm excited and it's been awhile since I was excited for anything coming out of Blizzard since StarCraft 2. I enjoy TF2 and FF, so this game I think would be an easy fit for me. The abilities also seem a lot more diverse and different compared to other FPS games but would have to wait to get my hands on it to really know.
Overall I'm looking forward to it and I think they can do it well. If Blizzard has taught us anything, it's that they are masters of looking at a genre, taking mostly everything that's good, leaving mostly everything that's bad, adding some innovative features or feature and making a Kick Ass game out of it. Just look at Wow.
