I already got it a while back, so I guess I'm going to give it a go. I skipped Cata and Panda rainbow Expansion, so am hoping it will seem a little fresh when i return. I don't have high hopes.
I imagine I'll do the 90-100 grind, do some raiding and get bored. 1-2 months play time, tops. It will at least keep me pre-occupied till 2015 rolls around and I can start looking forward to new horizons.
Not a dig on you, but why do you(people in general) impulsively buy without really thinking? I mean... you are even admitting that you wont play longer than a month or two and put it down after you realize its the same boring game. Do people really see a new WoW xpac and say "omg I have to get it...its WoW" ?
I make quite a nice living and I decide how I will spend 60$ carefully.
Will I enjoy the leveling experience?
Will I be forced to guild up?
Will I have enough to do solo/casual at max level (to progress my character)?
Can I see myself playing this longer than a month?
If I answer no to a few of those, I don't buy. Obviously what is important to me is not important to you or anyone else. But I just like to be wise with my money and not just throw it at the next game that comes along just because of its IP.
And I definitely don't understand people that buy collectors editions, especially for brand new games that are still in beta.

I make quite a nice living as well, so $60 isn't that much really. If I would only play for a month that isn't really that expensive for 30 days entertainment. Sometimes in life if you have to think too much it just isn't worth even doing.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

I need my MMORPG fix, and there is nothing better.
A sad, but inevitable reality of the current MMORPG market. I imagine there are millions other like me. To be fair though, I didn't waste my money on ESO, Wildstar and most of the crap that hit the market the last decade. I wonder if you could say the same.

Ya, I'm like you. I don't think I waste any money buying mmorpgs because I play them for hours...even if they are not that good. I feel that I pay as much for a console game and normally they have no where near the content the worst mmorpg has.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
I'd like to say no, but curiosity gets the better of me every time. I am playing Archeage right now, when I have time I play Trove but I am very casual with it.
I played ESO before, and would like to get back into it soon, but the Justice system/removal of Veteran Ranks have not entered the picture so I may try out WoD...I have an rl friend who is coming back for WoD so, maybe.
Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile
Of course I am going to. It has the most content and is the most polished game of it's type. High entertainment value for very little money.
edit: This is my opinion!
Probably because it's been out a decade?
So what?
WOW has BY FAR more content than any other theme park mmo, for the same monthly subscription. Other gaming companies better start realizing you're not going to compete with WOW by cloning it then only adding a fraction of the content or by ignoring most of your potential customers by forgetting to add casual content.
Even with having to buy expansions, WOW is the best bang for your buck.
WoW only technically has the most content because you're counting old raids/dungeons that are now only good for vanity gear farming. It's at level content isn't that much superior to other games (particularly over the last year where no new content was added.)
Wow clones fail not from lack of content rather because why would people leave behind their characters/stories/friends/guild/world/resources that they've invested so much time in just to start all over again with nothing in a game that's exactly the same.

Content is content to me. It makes up who your character is through the lore, history, and items you find on the way. It's the foundation of the game, and is never old or unnecessary. So, imho "technically", it has the most content also.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
I just like to say thanks to this lovely community and the sheer amount of players who came here to participate in this poll. You've surely helped everyone here to have a better idea where we stand as a whole with WOW after a decade and if it's worth buying/playing it or not.
Also, thanks to all those who did more than that and actually came to give their opinions behind their decisions, which further helps us to make the right decision for each of us. I sincerely hope the best for Blizzard and World of Warcraft, especially after I've been part of it on and off for almost a decade. I'll be always thankful for the experience and I look forward more companies out there to be able to make such high quality and successful MMO's like Blizzard has done.
Again, it's still not too late for anyone here who might've missed this thread to cast your votes before the game launches in 2-3 days.
In the last 4 months WOW has increased subscriptions by 600,000, the increase alone is more than the total subs of most other MMOs. For this reason small number polls like this and the criticisms from WOW haters are akin to gnats buzzing and whining at a battleship: completely irrelevant.
Very weird to not buy a WoW xpac after all these years, but I just can't bring myself to do it.
I know the feeling.. I just bought SwTor's expansion and ordered a 60 day game card for FFXIV, but not WoW. I dont even have the slightest urge to buy WoD.
Stages of a new mmo: 1) It's just beta. It still has plenty of time before release. 2) It just launched. Give it time. WoW wasn't built in a day. 3) We don't need you anyway. 4) F2P announced. 5)Huge influx of players. 6) Look how much has changed. 7) Cash shop is the only thing developed lately. 8) It has been a long journey and we thank everyone who was part of it. Shutting down in 3 months. (Courtesy of Robokapp.)

As there has been previous threads explaining crystal clear how WOW counts those subs globally (particularly Asia with China) for marketing as one of it's reasons, I highly doubt a small portion of those numbers will be paying what I will be paying in Canada for the game.
Further, I've had very difficult time to find a recent source with sub numbers that are paying similar price to what North Americans and Europeans are paying for the game.
As I've been part of the top 5-10 most populated servers since launch over the last 9 years I've also not felt the game has the population it claims to have. The amount of views and response sites like these, which imo is the most popular place MMO players gather to discuss just further solidifies my opinion.
I'll probably do what I always do. Wait a month or 2 for everything to settle in and buy it. Then I'll play with it for another month or 2. Going back after some months away just to get my "fix"

No disrespect Sir, but I am going to go with actual global numbers (real or fabricated) over your feelings. WoW is still the "go to" game most of us choose, no matter how many subscriptions we may feel it has.

Isn't the additional cost purely due to taxes and currency rate exchange? Every state in the US has different taxes, so no one here is paying the same price either. But then it has always been this way. Why has it all of a sudden become an issue of contention unless it's the $5 for the expansion across the board (as in everyone has to pay that)? The only country singled out as far as I know was the UK, but that was due a currency rate exchange change.

You misunderstood my message. As you can clearly see in my post I'm clearly referring to those paying subs Blizzard proudly claims in Asia and how I've had difficult time to find a resent source with the sub numbers that are paying SIMILAR to what I'll be paying in countries such as U.S, Canada, (UK/Europe), Australia and so forth.
I don't care at all due to their currency exchange rates if they pay a little bit more or less in their currency. Yes, Blizzard should be aware as well the fact that their product is even COSTLIER to some countries with weaker currencies than the USD dollar and less wages, but again it's their product and right to price what it fills right in specific regions.
I know for a fact there is not a lot out there who will choose to spend $ on the latest expansion and pay as much as Blizzard is asking to have access to the game once the expansion launches, especially in the overall poll of global subs Blizzard claims to have.
What I'm anxious though to find out is one or two weeks after launch if there will be a released data of copies sold (both physical and digital) of the expansion, from regions that actually are paying similar to what I'll need to. That usually is a good indication of what has yet to come and if Blizzard has done a great, good or not so good job with their latest product. For me personally it's a win win scenario.
Poor numbers = Blizzard will either do drastic measures to boost subs like cutting the costs to use their product, bringing more content with faster updates or see it's demise. Great numbers will mean the current MMO market is generally happy with things as they are now and most likely we will have another 5+ years of similar things we've already had in the genre (although I highly doubt) since copying WOW has not been a successful strategy yet to take the majority of its market.

Sorry, I haven't really followed or perhaps don't understand the entire conversation, but haven't over a million copies already been sold (fully purchased)? That is a huge amount even before it has actually launched.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

Got a source?
The only source I have on subs (not copies sold according to Blizzard) is 600,000 subs gained "globally", which means Asia included. I'll probably never find a source with the sub numbers outside of Asia by Blizzard ever again. The last one been way too outdated (almost 7 years ago)
Anyways, I'm done caring for now. I got all the info I needed. Hope people who've preordered or decided to play it on launch have a very enjoyable experience with the game.
Yep, continuing to support the subscription based, not-F2P MMO industry with (arguably, FFXIV was pretty good too IMO) the only fantasy MMO worth the price tag.
So why does it matter how many boxes sold? What is this preoccupation with sub numbers... even when it's at it's worst, it's still profitable to the developer. This head counting trend is stupid. Even if no buys WoD, totally not going to happen, WoW will still be up and running tomorrow. Whether they scramble to do something to change things is a moot point. What business doesn't adjust to changes? When was the last time you saw a developer say, "Screw this shit" and pull the plug on the server the next day without half the world already knowing it was coming?
WoW will still be the top money maker for the next 3 years even if they gave you nothing new for the next 3 years. They have a substantial following that really don't give a rats ass about constant updates et al. So long as they exist, WoW is not going to be closing its doors any time soon.
You might think they are insane, but they don't care... hell, they've never even once ever visited an MMO site... INCLUDING BLIZZARDS' OWN... they just log in and play.

Nay!
SSDD.
Havn't played MMOs in like 4 months. Single player games are becoming more fun and less stressful due to the lack of terrible online communities.
First time in my 10 yr history with MMORPG.com that I actually come here less.
Waiting for Far Cry 4
and
Dragon Age Inquisition
No MMOS feels kinda great.

Definitely yay for me. It's still the best game on the market by a country mile. Only other game that rivals it is Eve, which isn't my style of game.
And I say all that knowing full well that WoW has a lot of flaws these days, too.
