It seems quite some old timers returned back to WoW for the Draenor expansion, it might be the first expansion to grab that warcraft feeling (lore and setting) again after Vanilla, are you in for it?

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

I still think wow questing is top notch, but knowing what lies at end game makes it feel like a waste of time now. Eso is Pretty awesome now with quality lore that doesn't try to nudge nudge wink wink at itself and is great for those that want to play their main in a virtyal workd rather than micromanage bases.

So thats the game that's preventing the itch to try 'one last time'

No way...soon its Dragon Age: Inquisition!

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.

Maybe... I know it comes out tomorrow but Dragon Age Inquisition is coming out next week as well as Super Smash Bros. so I'm not 100% sure if I will return right now.

Yeah I'm torn with DA:I also.  Really considering doing the EA pass (xb1) on Friday getting 6 hours in and playing WoW the rest of the weekend.

Nah, no interest. Archeage is all I need atm.
  • MothanosMothanos Member UncommonPosts: 1,910

Would not play a themepark anymore.
With the pace blizzard is putting out contend past years i have lost all interest and dont like the endgame that much anymore like i used to do in Vanila / TBC.

Archeage + Eve Online is fixing all my mmo needs perfectly :)

I know this is an old argument, but it's a true one... especially from someone that's had access to the WoD Beta since June (until it was recently shut down).

The talent trees themselves are actually more meaningful now and, in a way, much more complex.  They made it simpler to understand, but what was simple about copying a sheet online and never touching talents again?

Speaking only from WoD experiences, nearly every time I logged in and at least ten times per did I changed my talents for each class I played.  When I entered a dungeon?  Switched my talents around.  PvP?  Again.  World PvE?  Once more.  That roaming boss over there that I was familiar with?  Picked up a specific ability that counters it.

Speaking from the past expansion, this is what I did with battlegrounds as well.  Some battlegrounds I wanted one thing, others something on the same tier was much better for the situation.  But this wasn't always the case, especially with specific classes where something was always found to be better.

This is why I hate the term "dumbing down."  If something is easier to understand, it does not make it dumb.  I've found that people actually use difficulty of understanding as a means to enable them to be "better" than others.  This is an artificial skill as a whole, as seen by them losing that edge when it becomes "simple".  Though when things become "simple", it usually is accompanied by things that give it more depth or additional gameplay.

Take for example Challenge Mode Dungeons.  Heroic Progression (now Mythic) raids.  Very few people managed to beat these when they were relevant.  Yet many still scream "easy game!" because they don't look for difficulty themselves and tackle the easy stuff to give themselves ego boosts.

Due to frequent travel in my youth, English isn't something I consider my primary language (and thus I obtained quirky ways of writing).  German and French were always easier for me despite my family being U.S. citizens for over a century.  Spanish I learned as a requirement in school, Japanese and Korean I acquired for my youthful desire of anime and gaming (and also work now).  I only debate in English to help me work with it (and limit things).  In addition, I'm not smart enough to remain fluent in everything and typically need exposure to get in the groove of things again if I haven't heard it in a while.  If you understand Mandarin, I know a little, but it has actually been a challenge and could use some help.

Also, I thoroughly enjoy debates and have accounts on over a dozen sites for this.  If you wish to engage in such, please put effort in a post and provide sources -- I will then do the same with what I already wrote (if I didn't) as well as with my responses to your own.  Expanding my information on a subject makes my stance either change or strengthen the next time I speak of it or write a thesis.  Allow me to thank you sincerely for your time.

Probably a good idea to give it a week or two to settle in any case.

Though make sure to come back for the 10th year anniversary for the free mount and such if you do intend on coming back.

Coming from other sites when a person uses the catch phrase "dumbing down" it usually means they really don't have any knowledge of the game and found a cool little phrase other haters were using it so they just throw it out and hope people like you don't see it and explain the actual facts...

I felt so powerful, putting in "+1% damage with wands" in my talent trees. Points well spent

Hell no, and Activision blizzard can stick a fork in it.

  • SaluteSalute Member UncommonPosts: 795

Despite i think it will be a good expansion, at least better than Cata and Panda, i will not play it. I don't care anymore about WoW. 10 years and almost 10k hours played are way too many for a game.

For now i m sticking to D3 and wait for Dragon Age Inquisition. As for mmo's a bit of EvE and WS (pay them both with plex & credd) will do the job until some other descent mmo pops up.

Yup, have rejoined WoW (after leaving in early BC).

I would have joined for Pandaria as well probably, but the instant-90 boost really sold me for WoD. I stll find it the most polished and lore-intensive PvE MMO out there. Actually, no, TSW probably is the best in my eyes, but that one has too small an EU community for me to play it properly.

For the (death of) the Horde!

The game has become to easy for my taste. I like a challenge as I level and that doesn't exist anymore in modern Wow. What is left are end game raids, dungeons, pvp, and that is not my thing.

I'd argue that WoW is far more a virtual world than ESO, considering that it actually has a strong economy, an open, seamless world, and many, many more things to do.

I agree with your point regarding endgame, particularly for those that aren't into gear progression, but is ESO's endgame any better currently?  Not by a long shot.  In fact, it's one of the worst in the genre until they implement their changes to the VR system.

Even if one isn't inclined to stick around for WoW's endgame, a strong case could be made for buying the expansion and subbing through the leveling content.  It's what I plan to do, and if I get bored of the endgame stuff, I'll unsub and wait for further big updates or expansions before coming back.

VR system will only help with progression and not the end game itself. ESO has the worst reward : effort ratio.

Leveling 1 to 50 is where the fun is at in ESO and maybe champion system in future. But that is still progression and not the 'end game'. For people who enjoy doing end game for 'loot and reward' ESO isn't for them so why is this guy even comparing ESO end game with WOW is beyond me... maybe he is hoping to fool some new players int buying ESO?

The problem with Wildstar was performance and the combat was not to my taste.

Why would you buy Wow for the leveling content? It will last about a week and have zero challenge and you will be done with it. Is it for the story / lore?

When i say i don't care about a game, i mean i don't care enough in order to play it. I care for all mmo's either i play them or not and i m keeping an eye for news, updates etc. For example i still haven't played ESO or FFA but i follow them and maybe some time in the future i ll play them also.

Btw you don't have to browse their forums. Every article appears in the main page of mmorpg so you can see it without get in some specific forum :)
