WOD, just call it Neverwinter 2!

xpowderxxpowderx Member UncommonPosts: 2,078

Got the expansion... waited a bit to finally get online. I kinda feel burned. Spent money on Blizzard for a expansion that literally mimics Neverwinter's(Perfect World) companions system.  So be it, the WOW copy is improved a bit. But you see Neverwinter is "FREE".

For the WOW throng it may be new. But for a mmo vet like me. It is nothing more than another set of ideas taken from another mmo to feed the masses and make big $$.

And everyone thinks mmo's are WOW clones. Im just going to stick with calling WOD. Neverwinter 2!

Well, this is not a "top dog" expansion. Considering it is Neverwinter's system. WOW would be third. Since Pirate101(Game of the Year 2013) also took Neverwinters companion system to use. The only thing WOW is top dog of. Is taking peoples money for a system that has been around for 4 years now. Then having those same people who they took money from, claim it was taken from WOW.

What a incredible business model! Like getting free money.!

They should've taken GW2's server model, and implemented overflow servers to help with queues. lol.

LOL, now that would be funny. The beast that Blizzard is. Making almost a entire expansion based off another companies system. Running out of ideas, so Blizzard passes this off(take it from the other guy). Go figure!

The sad part , so Blatant its incredible!

    <rolls eyes>

Okay, enjoy your "free" game.  Remember, you get what you pay for.  And, having played Neverwinter for a short while, I can say that I got exactly out of it what I paid for it:  NOTHING.  Just a horrible game.

And there is literally not one similarity I can find between the two games.  Blizzard definitely borrows from other games, and improves upon them.  Trust me when I say there is nothing in Neverwinter worth borrowing.

If you are going to start a thread to trash WoD, I suggest trying harder next time.  Your comparison makes it appear as though you haven't played either of these two games.

I really do not have to trash WOD. It is what it is. Blizzard took a system from another company. Put it in its newest expansion. Then has people who try to justify a trashy system in its expansion(Your own words) as not comparable. When the REALITY differs from your own opinion.

As to free, YES.. exactly why I am disappointed with this expansion. As I paid 43 dollars for a expansion that offers the same system that is found in a free to play game.

Like I said, dont have to try harder. Blizzard got my money. And I have been ripped off. Just as Blizzard got your money. Plain and simple.. I would be mad too!

Well, Blizzard got my money and I love the expansion.  I'm having a great time.  Blizzard got your money too,  except you hated it.  While I'm happy I gave them my money for what will undoubtedly be months and months of fun, you are upset and feel you got ripped off.

So I ask you, who wins in this situation?  I do.

But by all means, enjoy Neverwinter.  lol

The launch of WoD has been disastrous for the richest gaming company on the planet.

That said to even use Neverwinter in the same sentence as WoW is insulting. Neverwinter is a two penny throwaway MMO that used it's name to take advantage of D&D fanboi's.

  • tawesstawess Member EpicPosts: 4,227

Well i guess it is news to some that Blizzard whole idea is pretty much the following.

1: Look for decent game mechanics.

2: Either put them in your game or build a game around them

3: Put the Blizzard polish to it.

4: Make sure that ease of access is as close to 100% as you can get.

Well apart from the modern RTS scene.. they pretty much built that from scratch...

But beyond that the fact that they use good systems from other games in their games is not exactly news in any way. Aso i am pretty sure that NW was not the first to handle companions in the way they do. In fact i think that SW:ToR had a similar system and it came out before NW

This have been a good conversation

  • ohnonotagainohnonotagain Member Posts: 4

What about EQ2's mercenary system or SWTOR's companion system? Plus, wasn't what made Neverwinter so awesome was the ability to go on player made campaigns, which other MMO's and SP games have/had been doing already?

    Just saying.

  • tawesstawess Member EpicPosts: 4,227
Yeah in fact the foundry system harken back to City of Heroes and have also been used in STO, another cryptic game.

Really? You are getting all butt hurt because they used the companion system from Neverwinter which is also used SWTOR and pretty much every game that has the construction aspect like the garrison?

So, ya know, be an ass about the whole expansion because of the followers which only a little portion of the expansion.

Are you aware that other games use: spells, human characters, auction houses, weapons to do damage, monsters... I mean holy shit this is all just a rip off!!! Ugh, ridiculous.

The only thing that WoWs Garrison followers have in common with the companions from Neverwinter is that they can do work orders.

Other than that they have nothing in common.

So, saying WoD "literally mimics" the system from Neverwinter is bad hyperbole and you know it but obviously you do not care.

The butt hurt part is the paying of 43 dollars for a expansion that mainly follows other games that already have the companion system in it. In which most of the other games are free or only require a sub. In fact, that is the point. We paid for a expansion for things many f2P games already have implemented.

That its serious butt hurt there. As a WOW player I would be mad that I just paid 40+ dollars for a system f2P games already have.

Tbf neverwinter would be better than wow if it wasn't pay 2 win.

I  gotta agree though in 1 sense, wow was the best mmo around back b4 WOTLK but the game has been constantly dumbed down, choice removed (by removing consequences) and competition removed by creating a fully invasive, non optional imspect skill.

Wow is basically terrible now and there are a lot of mmos that are better than it. In my opinion, the fan boys remaining are stuck to it like glue because of blind loyalty rather than actual preference because they remember back when wow used to be good.

Either that or they are super casual gamers who want everything easy, to be able to make no mistakes in games and to be able to steal other peoples builds if they are better rather than have to build themselves especially from people who use maths to calculate effective dps.

In other words,  wow isn't a game for any competitive gamer but if you are a 12 year old on your 1st pc, playing a game for 2 hours after school with no aim of actually competing with anyone, wow is for you.

Are you trying to say you're butt hurt over paying $43 for companions?

I'm sure it's aggravating to see a similar system from a title you've already played but the companion system is only a portion of a portion of the expansion. If you don't mind me asking, how far have you gotten into the expansion? I played with the companion system enough to get the gist before stepping too far into Shadowmoon Valley. If you're in the same boat theoretically you've only gotten into, say, 1.50 of the 43.00 you've spent.

    Pretty much... =P

Also i like to point out that in Neverwinter it is not your companions that do any work. You have very clearly different rescources for that. Both permanent and consumable.

Your companions only fight (unless you count the out of game browser app. But that does not lock your companions to a task. it is a entire game in it´s own right.

    So my conclusion is

A: The OP has not played NW.

B: The OP has not played WoD.

C: The OP is stuck in a que and need to went some rage.

D: The OP is in fact partways in to a weekend long binge.

They should've taken GW2's server model, and implemented overflow servers to help with queues. lol.

Blizzard would lose money if they did that. Why?

Because sitting in a queue means you are not progressing/playing. Blizzard knows you want to play. Sitting in a queue means that Time is money! (No pun) Add the times you must wait for anything WoW -related over the last 10 yrs and tell me you could not come up with at least a month wasted, yet still payed that monthly fee.

The longer you play, the more they make.

In GW2 there is no monthly fee, they want it all to go smooth. That impression needs to draw more people in to play and people being happy with that product.

In WoW, you are paying that monthly fee, regardless if you can play or not.

I stopped playing MMOs 4 months ago, and started single player ones. Saving me lots of money. :)
