Looking at the Subscriptions and Active Accounts with a peak above 1 million chart on mmodata.net
(all numbers approximate from looking at the wavy colored lines on a chart)
WoW (a paltry) 7.5 million (looks like pre-WoD)
AION a MASSIVE 2.4 million
Lineage & Lineage 2 a WHOPPING 2 million (combined)
SWOTR a CRUSHING 1.2 million
Runescape and OVERWHELMING 1.2 million
So....all of the non-WoW numbers combined are...let's see...carry the 2, put the integer somewhere over here....the decimal goes here...AH.....
6.8 MEEEEELYON Subscribers!!! Yes that totally out does the WoW numbers by 700K!!! Oh...wait....sorry.....*cough*.....that is 700K LESS than WoW.....pre-WoD of course....
Oh....and, the numbers for the Lineages were current as of.....hmm...2009
AION, SWOTR, and Runescape as of 2012.5
Wait...does that mean some of those are out of date?
Yup, I can see where he is coming from!!! (Oh, I am sure I looked at the wrong info, etc etc......)
And...before the fanboy accusation comes out.....played WoW from Beta Vanilla through the Ghostcrapper ruination. Wish I had never touched Catatonic and Pandaworld. Don't play now....hate what they have done to the game.
At it´s lowest point (so far) WoW had 6.8 mil subscribers. Blizzard them self have said that WoW now has broken the 10 mil mark. And since we know that Blizzard do not want to go to court we can assume that the info is correct.
Now for some history.
WoW reached it higest stable peak around the release of WotLK at 11500 mil users. This then peaked to the mythic 12 as the pre-hype for Cata reached maximum.
We then saw a sharp drop down to 9,1 at the end of Cata.
----
This also means that this is the biggest individual gain of new subscriptions that WOW have seen since launch.
The previous guy had it right but you have it wrong, wows numbers fell throughout catc, cata was 2010 release. wow didn't actually have an increase ein subs again till 2012. I read the stat point wrong.
But hey, now I have you lot looking at the data, that's the important thing.
UNlike fanboys, if im wrong, ill say im wrong and ill give you my data source as I have.
The important thing is that people say the truth about a game they support and not lie about a game they support thus becoming fanboys.
I feel vindicated now that all of you are looking at the data . Mission accomplished, over and out.
I think you missunderstood me.
I agree with you... I said they reached the peak before the release of Cata and then saw a constant loss of players all the way through Cata... It was not until the pre-relesase hype for MoP started that numbers started to climb..
The numbers i use are from the numbers that Blizzard them self have published. So no i can not pin-point the day or time when a specific number of subscribers outside the timeframe in those reports.
But if you need a easy to navigate chart champion have a decently accurate one.
And not to rob you of your "vindication" but this was known to me already... Mostly because i have had this argument with people like you every expansion Cata...
This whole thread boils down to arguing about how pregnant you are. Are you pregnant? Yes. How pregnant are you? Uhn, either 6.8, 7.5 or 10 million. Ask me again in 9 months.

I'm still waiting for this to be addressed....
Dont belive he will be able to, that newtextdocument have probably gone through the shredder.
I'm feeling like I am in a board of directors meeting:
"Ooooh noo, we only made 2'999'999'999 instead of the "predicted" 3'000'000'000.
We have to do something immediately or else we will die and burn in hell !!!!"
The Fact remains: even if WoW would loose 5'000'000 Players, it would still be a cash cow and doing great.
The so called "dying wow" has now had a small surgical operation which extended it's life time another few years.
---------------------------------------- Evil UO has doomed my poor soul and now I'm wandering restlessly through all MMORPG's, desperately searching for a place to rest in peace.....

Don't count on it. That new account fulfilled its purpose.
10 million subscribers and only 3.3 million copies of WoD.
That makes sense.
This is first day sales only. WOD is still not available in Asia?
It isn't available in all regions but it released in China yesterday I believe. Those numbers obviously aren't added in.
Yup, it just released today in South Korea, mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. The numbers in the posted article were from the NA/EU release from 11/13
10 million subscribers and only 3.3 million copies of WoD.
That makes sense.
Not everyone jumps right in to the new expansion. Some i guess sub a month to see if they care to get back in,
Also some new players probably picked up the new war-chest first so they did not get WoD right of the bat.
those 3.3 pretty much sums up the gamer crowd. they ones who have to have it at 0-day. Most normal players will pick it up with their next paycheck. So within the next 30 days.
That's something this site NEVER understood either.
Instead we worshipped every new kid on the block like it would be superior to everything.
The end result is that this site became irrelevant in the long run.
People got burned running from one new launch to another and I don't even remember the dozens of fake "superior" MMO's I had installed on my hard disks over the last decade...
Ok, so Blizzard produces the most polished, most successful MMORPG product of all time. And people LIKE it en mass or they wouldn't subscribe to it...
Instead of hurting yourselves you should embrace the success of WOW, or else this site is even more meaningless then it is right now.
10 million subscribers and only 3.3 million copies of WoD.
That makes sense.

I guess it tells everything about real numbers (for the first time ever, we have official info):
Everyone who is currently playing bought WoD (show me one person who havent)
No release in asia = asian numbers excluded (for the FIRST time ever!)
WoW real subscribers number: 3.3 million
Yeah and how about that 1 billion dollars that stick every year on Blizzard's account as proof they get all that money.
Do the count: 15 dollars X 3.3 M X 12 = 594 million dollars. Short by a whopping 400 million dollars... or more as in most years the game gathered 1.2 billion dollars.
I guess Blizzard must be in some Columbian drug dealing affairs to close your gap...
Now comes the GOOD part: A LOT of countries don't even pay 15 dollars like Russia 8.5 dollars and of course China like 2 dollars for 60 hours of play ...
NOT even talking about the massive 2 month RETAIL subscription cards which bring in 40% less than 15 dollars due to Retail prfits and distribution...
See the picture ? The money is there, the old 7.5 million and NOW the 10.000.000 were Always there...
Besides the revenue/figures of WOW is clearly explained on the ATVI accounts for stock owners and AUDITED by several 3rd parties like ... The Deutsche Bank. I am sure they all lie and get their revenue from dealing Columbian drugs ...

Shh!. Thats a secret!!. Let just keep talking about 10 Mill of subs.
Secret..lol more like will full ignorance and conveniently ignoring a huge part of player base because they are 'asians".
HIS BILL does NOT fit.
WOW gains between 1.2 and 1 billion dolalrs each year.
His count only arrivés at 590 million dollars (excluding the fact a LOT of countries do not even pay 15 dollars a month like Russia, Portugal etc...along with far less revenue coming from subscription card where RETAIL has a big % too).
So frankly with 3.4 million copies sold in the FIRST 24 hours only, you may be assured WOW has now around 4.5 - 5 miillion non Chinese players... or your revenue would not arrive at that 1 billion dollars yearly at all.
And ... one more thing: Blizzard gains around 1.5-1.6 billion each year while the Actvision Group is around 4.5-4.7 billion per year. So I was talking WOW revenue above (not mixing with other games from their stable).
And those of us that play a month or so at a time and have never had nor likely ever will a max level character. Heck in 7 years the highest I've gotten is 54
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is bad.

WOW's retention rates have been abslotulty fantastic over these 10 years.
I still remember the remarks of this site back in 2007 that WOW would have less than 1 million subs by the end of 2010...

I would expect WoW subs to drop to around 4-5M in a year, prior to the next expansion.

You got it right. Western players are such special snowflakes that they are the only 'real' players.
Asians like me..well we do not matter at all even though we pay more to play WOW than your paltry sum of fixed 15 bucks.
