Official game release date? or early beta access release date?
I personally refuse to pay for a beta testing, they should be paying me. Seems like Star Citizen has somehow fooled people that's its ok to pay for a unfinished game.
Looks like H1z1 will be a good game though, when its actually out. I have a station pass, wonder if that grants early access?
Played:SWG(pre NGE/CU sucked)Yep its true, anyone who quit SWG because of the NGE/CU missed out on a much better combat system. DCUO, Fallen Earth, STO, The Secret World. Battlefield series. Planetside 2. Still playing SWG.
I'm absolutely sure that there will be a (paid) Early Access phase. It's the current standard for boosting monetization in F2P games.
The coming announcement is most likely the start of Early Access and the pricing of the "founder's packs". They may also give an estimate of the actual release date, but in today's market, the release date is becoming irrelevant. The most significant date for any game nowadays is the date that the Cash Shop opens...
Thing is SOE has the station pass subscription which I have for PS2 , but it covers all their games like DCUO that I play too.
That would be kind of messed up if they tried to charge even more to play than the sub. I Understand charging for a founders pack that would give some unique in game items.
Well hopefully they will allow subs to early access, guess we will find out today!

I agree with this. I find it particularly amusing when games try to benefit from the whole "it's beta" excuse, but are collecting money in their cash shop. One or the other guys. Either it's beta or it's actively being monetized. If you're selling something, it should be judged like a product that is being paid for (and held up against other similar products that you can pay for).
Could not have said it better.
What happens when you log off your characters????.....

Dark Age of Camelot
Ok seriously? The boards get lit up by people complaining about pay betas. You know this is a business right? They are making this game TO MAKE MONEY!
If you don't agree with their idea then do not pay for beta. If you support the game and want to help then pay for the beta.
There is no word that its a paid beta. If so great as I know we'll be buying stuff in game once they get that ability.
It costs millions to make the games and people want stuff for free immediately. Support the people that are working hard to make this game and stop complaining about paying for stuff.
Everyone wants something for nothing all the time.
If you follow the actual site you meet REAL people with families and lives that work to bring us great games like this looks to be. Support them.
If it is a pay beta count me in because I believe in the game and the people behind it.
Look ^^^ quoting myself. Admittedly didn't do my research, thought the game looked interesting from the first announcement and the few videos I've seen. Just did my homework and realized this game will be F2P model....../kindly bows out. Hope you all enjoy the game, completely done with F2P models.
H1Z1 will have thousands of concurrent users in the world.
No contest.
Dying Light would be more like Killing Floor.
Better face it, you're not going to have many alternative games to play if that's how you think. This post made me think back over the past ten years and I can't think of a single mmo I've played in that time that's still only P2P. They all have a F2P option now., apart of course from the ones that had to close down.
I completely understand it's going this way, regrettably, but I won't derail the thread anymore than on accidently did already.
Good luck folks, have fun in H1Z1!
Is the game actually good or just a Zombie shootem up?I mean is there any depth to systems?Does it look like a solid 4-5 year mmo game design?
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
It's too early to tell if it will be any good, the game's not even in Alpha yet.
Just think of it as the AAA version of DayZ. You get to run around killing zombies and other players. Mostly other players.
I'm sure there will be some features added to distinguish H1Z1 from DayZ, Rust, Stomping Grounds, Infestation and all the other countless survivor games that have sprung up like mushrooms since the "DayZ phenomenon" became a bankable thing...
That looks actually very nice. But it seems to be more of a pure action game though. Not large number of players and does not look like it will have any sandbox elements like building bases.
1) Star Citizen is still being funded 100% as a kickstarter with no investor money as support, so not paying for the game before it was launched would mean there is no game.
2) For the first year or so of Star Citizen's kickstarter campaign, CIG charged 35$ for the full game and alpha/beta access, which was cheaper than what the full retail cost would be for the game. After the first year, they charged 45$ until they hit the max number of alpha slots (around 500,000). After that, they now charge 5$ per alpha slot in addition to the full game price, to cover bandwidth and server costs since they now have enough beta testers.
Please do not drag Cloud Imperium Games into a comparison with Sony Entertainment for business practices until doing more research on CIG and Star Citizen.
There are still sub-only games, unless you mean ones you've personally played. WoW, FFXI, FFXIV, Eve, others I've probably never played do not have F2P options.
Now are studios that aren't top tier such as Blizzard and Square Enix going to release a purely P2P MMORPG going forward? Probably not.
