Still pushing for Citadel of Sorcery

None of the games listed really offers anything like what CoS is. Possible Alpha second half of 2015. Keep an eye out for it.

Played: UO, LotR, WoW, SWG, DDO, AoC, EVE, Warhammer, TF2, EQ2, SWTOR, TSW, CSS, KF, L4D, AoW, WoT

Playing: The Secret World until Citadel of Sorcery goes into Alpha testing.

Tired of: Linear quest games, dailies, and dumbed down games

    Anticipating:Citadel of Sorcery

All signs at this point show it being heavily instanced. Which is weird, because one of the reasons Lineage 1 was so awesome is that is has zero instances, it's entirely open world.

I'll probably get banned for say this, but 2014 was a huge disappointment: WildStar, ESO, and especially ArcheAge were stunning let-downs.  For me, 2014 was a regressive year for MMOs.

It's hard to get hopeful for 2015 with 2014 still underway and more games wiped from my gaming laptop in 2014, than added on.

Life is Feudal, H1Z1 and The Repopulation seem to be embracing the "gank and grief the noob" crowd with their open-world PvP focus.  Are we really lacking games of this type?  I  won't even participate in open betas, as I expect game play, about 2 - 3 days after release, to be nothing more than continuous death by headshot from sniper rifles / crossbows from 1800 yards away.  Been there, done that, yawn.

I have some hope for games offering something new: Shards Online and Everquest Next.  My concern is that the new thing (voxels, or different landscapes) wears thin over time and it's just another by-the-numbers MMO.

My only optimism is around Star Citizen - it's got strings-free dollars to spend, no publisher to push it out prematurely,  and experienced leadership.  We could use another good space MMO.

    Happy holidays.

So pretty much watch all of them?

'Sandbox MMO' is a PTSD trigger word for anyone who has the experience to know that anonymous players invariably use a 'sandbox' in the same manner a housecat does.

When your head is stuck in the sand, your ass becomes the only recognizable part of you.

No game is more fun than the one you can't play, and no game is more boring than one which you've become familiar.

How about not watching them, not pre-ordering or playing the betas? Waiting till the reviews are out and then deciding whether to buy or join?

Dont wach none of them neither pre-order, but playing a free beta i will if i get the chance to help me decide if i wanna join on release or not. Reviews are nice to read and discuss but my decision can only be made "trying" the game.

So a open beta, a trial, whatever that let me try for free and i might check some from list.

I haven't looked at Lineage etternal since that first video but isn't it going to be more like Diablo 3 than Lineage 1 or 2?

    ~EverQuest Next
When? No concrete release date yet, but with Landmark established, I imagine Next can't be too far behind. I'd bet on summer of 2015.
For EQNext? Um, no.  Landmarks "official launch" is scheduled for summer 2015, and you're looking at another year before EQN hits shelves.  The game isn't even in a Beta test and is in internal Alpha only right now.

    ~The Division
    Who? Tom Clancy and Ubisoft
Ghost Recon Online?  It already exists.   The Division is nothing more than a late kid on a short bus with a flat tire.   Destiny beat it,  so did quite a few other shooters too.

    ~Warhammer 40,000

What? A third-person PvP MMO set in the world of Warhammer 40,000

Except as a PvP title it's selling classes and power in it's cash shop.  Making it a game of "deepest wallet wins", which is not competitive or fun to say the least.   This game is going to be a controversial D.O.A. and Games Workshop should be ashamed that for the 2nd time their IP is being misused and turned into a joke in the MMO genre.  Well, at least Blizzard's open rip-off of it is doing some kind of justice for them...

    The Repopulation
What? A post-apocalyptic sandbox MMO that takes place on the planet Rhyldan. As colonization failed on the new planet, the remaining humans splintered into factions left fighting over remaining resources.

Perhaps the only game in the entire list shown that has some potential of entertainment about it.    It's far too bad that the game is such off the radar because of it's very long development cycle as well as it being overshadowed by "AAA games".

Highly doubtful. FF XIV relaunched because SquareEnix cares about the game and their reputation. Trion does not give two shits about ArcheAge, they only in it for the quick payout, and XL Games seem to care only about the Korean version. So ArcheAge is screwed, it will never be the game it could have been. It's finished.

Whoever wrote this article is misinformed. Black Desert is to be released in 2016.
  • GruugGruug Member RarePosts: 1,794

I really don't think of "The Division" as a traditional MMO. To me is is going to be more of a co-op RGP (CORPG) with some minor PvP elements thrown in IF the player wishes. While there may be some areas with more real players then just your small group as "social hubs", you won't see massive numbers of  players in the game.

I also think Star Citizen will not be your traditional MMO. CR has said that you will probably not see "hundreds" of people competing in the game, In fact, the vastness of space is most likely not going to see more the eight to sixteen players in any one instance (again per CR).

Let's party like it is 1863!

What about Shroud of the Avatar?
  • armengararmengar Member UncommonPosts: 51

after playing landmark, and the combat they introduced, I have no hopes for EQNext.  Not a lot of people like that kind of combat.

other then the not mentioned Shroud of the Avatar I have zero hopes in this list of games.

First of all WOWP is NOT successful its pure Junk!  Now WOWS may do better than WOT that remains to seen So far at its pont in its better 10 times than WOWP. The MMO that really stands out for 2015 r #1 Stars Citizen and #2 is EQ Next there's nothing else I care to even consider.

+1 so much this what's the author smoking???

and from what I've seen most real EQ fans (ie those still playing EQ) could care less about EQN as the two games are so different with the only connection being a little bit of lore. Most EQ races won't even be in EQN

Except EQN won't be out in 2015 or Sony would already be selling early access as they did with Landmark more then a year before its sometime still in the distant future release.

Landmark might be released in 2015 but EQN won't especially as they put it on the back burning to try and rush H1Z1 out the door before all the walking dead hype dies, which would leave H1Z1 as the walking corpse of a game I believe it will be. (Note I did say in my belief so all you H1Z1 fans that think another game about shooting endless zombies and other players is the cats meow best of luck)

  • AIMonsterAIMonster Member UncommonPosts: 2,059

    Black Desert

It's looking pretty good.  I'm a bit less hyped about it then when I first saw the initial 2 trailers for the game due to some of the things I've heard from the Korean Beta, but it's still a must try for me.

    EQ Next

I suspect this game will not get a 2015 release.  Still, I'm really excited from what I've seen so far.  Hopefully they don't make the same mistake GW2 did with weak endgame PvE content.

    H1Z1

Zombies are a no for me.  Sorry, just not interested in playing yet another dull zombie survival sandbox game (there are millions cropping up) that relies on crafting and where players are more threatening than the actual zombies.

    Life is Feudal

Nope, not my cup of tea and indie MMOs don't usually work too well.

    Shard Online

Probably not, might give it a shot if I have nothing better to do, but the chances of me playing this one for any extended period of time is slim.

    Star Citizen

There are people in my community who are insanely hyped about this.  I see the appeal, but it feels like this game is more and more a cash grab everyday.  I can't believe how much money people are pumping into this game.  I'll give it a shot for sure, but if it's pay to win like I fear, then I can't see myself bothering with this.

    The Division

I was interested in The Division, but giving Ubisoft's track record as of late I'm going to wait and see on this.

    The Repopulation

Like many of the PvP focused sandbox games I don't have more interest in this.  I might give it a whirl, but probably will be too busy playing other games.

    Warhammer 40k

I don't have any interest in this at all at the moment.

    World of Warships

    Definite no

    Others not mentioned here:

    Lineage Eternal

Looking good.  There are a few things I don't like about it, and I'm worried it might be a heavy Korean grinder like the other Lineage games, but I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it.

    Skyforge

Will try it.  Looks decent, there are a few things I like and a few things I don't about it.  Since this likely will release sooner than most on the list.

    Tree of Savior

Looks to be a great casual MMO diversion game.  80 classes and the ones shown so far seem to have very unique mechanics no less.  Not planning on playing it super hardcore, but can see myself spending a lot on this.  More excited for this than Lineage Eternal, which has the similar diablo feel to it.

  • grimgryphongrimgryphon Member CommonPosts: 682

Nothing even remotely interesting on that list, except for possibly H1Z1.

I'm investing in multiplayer games that allow players to run run their own servers. A far better gaming experience, IMO. There's nothing 'massive' or 'multiplayer' about MMOs anymore.

Maybe the genre will get its shit together in 2016. Until then, 7 Days to Die and an occasional side helping of LOTRO/TSW for me.

    Optional PvP = No PvP
  • azzamasinazzamasin Member UncommonPosts: 3,105
EQN, H1Z1 and The Division are the only ones I'm interested in.

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

Sad to see only one of my favourites make this list.....EQN...

no word about Skyforge or lineage eternal...

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

  • lindhskylindhsky Member UncommonPosts: 162

EQNext because it has a lot of classes. I miss that in the games that have arrived the last couple of years.

Camelot Unchained because DAOC was my favourite game back in the Days. I love some of the ideas they have. I hope they don't overdo it.

Warhammer 40K - I am so longing for a good game placed in the Warhammer World. But I want it in the fantasy World - not in the 40k. This game will propably be fun for a lot of people but I can't stand FPS-games so this is not for me.  My Dream is that Another Warhammer Online will come out.

Shards Online - I Believe this game will be real fun. I love when they let people mod their own servers, items, World, skills etc.

  • HarikenHariken Member EpicPosts: 2,680
Star Citizen should just delay release for another year and collect more money.
  • KallendalKallendal Member UncommonPosts: 53

Maybe it is me, but some of these games I would barely call a MMO (world of warships?).  That being said the list is interesting.  Didn't see SOTA listed, which seems very odd.  Shards is uh.. well interesting concept, see how it ends up.  Didn't think that was 2015 release though?

H1Z1 and Black Desert definitly have my attention.

  • TalulaRoseTalulaRose Member RarePosts: 1,247

    Star Citizen

Release single player module first....then the MMO.....what???????

    A mmorpg it be not.
