It has been many years since I last sat on Santa's knee or wrote a letter to make sure he'd know what gifts I wanted him to bring. Although I'm not inclined to do either ever again, I haven't forgotten the seasonal tradition of listing my wishes. This year, as usual, I can enumerate quite a few things I'd like to see within the MMOG category. There are far too many to consider discussing them all, so I decided to limit myself to a manageable selection.

The suffocation of gaming by monetarism, well put.
I think the gaming houses are on a bob sleigh to keep a Xmas theme; they are relying on momentum to keep them going not innovation and with every team using the same run it is just going to be more of the same this year.
Only those with the most limited of expectations will get what they wished for I am afraid.
If challenging PvE simply means more hitpoints for the Es, then I say no. The challenge has been taken out of a lot of PvE because devs don't do challenge correctly. STO proved that with DR. I want a challenging game experience, not simply challenging fights where it takes me 10 minutes of mashing keys to get some giant monsters health bar to slowly tick away.
Above all else... never ever piss off the penguin.
I dont think Richard Aihoshi actually knows what the term "challenging" means.
A raid can be completed often and still be challenging. Just because it is completed often doesnt automatically mean its very easy.
Didnt even consider how much time, effort and skill the players are using to complete that raid every time.
Look at how extremely hard PvE has helped Wildstar.
Also, I know this is a "wish list" but Blizzard has already said they have no plans for a new MMORPG at this time.
Blizzard knows the MMO genre is a mess right now. Maybe Blizzard will make a new MMO when it stabilizes a bit.
New Warhammer , community , shittalk , bugs , exploits everything
for long time i played sandbox so much "second job" to have fun
like pvp dont mind anymore type/istanced or not but need be massive and 24h/7
its my wish
Maybe you missed it, but Blizzard isn't currently working on an MMO and won't be looking to be doing one any time in the near future:
Blizzard also said that it isn't going to be working on another MMO at this time, but won't rule out the possibility of a follow-up to World of Warcraft in the future.
http://massively.joystiq.com/2014/09/23/blizzard-officially-cancels-titan/
and it's mentioned in the Polygon article too: http://www.polygon.com/2014/9/23/6833953/blizzard-cancels-titan-next-gen-mmo-pc
Basically we will NOT see a Blizzard MMO in 2015. Instead we'll see the Beta release of Blizzard All-Stars (whatever it's called now) and the Beta release/possible full release of Overwatch. And they MIGHT release the name of the yet unnamed, but said to be in development expansion to follow up behind WoD.
All good points.
As for sleeper hit Project Gorgon looks quite promising.
look up lost ark... that looks amazing
Be lucky to see next before late 2016 maybe even 2017, people that think we will see it in 2015 are in for one big disappointment...look at the state of landmark that will give you some idea how far away we are.
landmark open beta I think will be around SOE live and can't see H1Z1 launching till 2016.
"For all GW2's strengths, its PVE is often too reliant on Zerg tactics."
Yeah, and that's what I really hate about it!
I would rather not rely on others and end up not getting full rewards for effort, as well as being killed frequently because I keep trying to solo shit that is not meant to be soloed!
Not sure why Blizzard would spend much time worrying about another MMORPG when their current and only entry in the market makes about 10x that of anyone else. They seem to know that they will only be competing with themselves in the current mmo climate.
Far as SoE is concerned, even with their overabundance of great ideas, I don't think the studio is going to produce anything worthwhile in the mmo genre. I look back at their track record, and since the new millennium when 989 and the original EQ team had creative control of one of their products, they haven't successfully created anything worth playing in my opinion. In fact they've only dragged the good things other people created thru the dirt and its unrealistic to think things are going to change.
blizzard will not reveal a new mmo...
and i rather want interesting sandbox pvp on a nations lvl instead of "challenging pve"... but yes, i truly hope they can deliver on eqn - my biggest hope so far - and hopefully 2015, cant wait
!!!
No such thing as challenging PVE. Its a myth.
Waiting for:
The Repopulation
Albion Online
sad sad sad, In GW2 you have complete groups quit because the dungeon is already too diverse and difficult to finish. Yet you want to make it even more diverse then you'd have zero players because they would never figure out how to beat a changing dungeon. The dungeons in the new mmo games are challenging and it takes time for people to figure out how to beat them that's why those two guys were able to say it was challenging even though they had beaten it over and over again. Then you call the massive world events in GW2 a zerg fest yet if the zerg doesn't behave properly then the objectives don't get accomplished and the boss doesn't spawn. I remember in Archeage giving up in a dungon because it was too hard and the makeup of the group wasn't attuned to finish the job. So not only do players have to get the right character builds they also have to have the correct group makeup to finish the task.
And still you aren't satisfied with the current system thinking somehow it can be improved.
i really liked GW2's gauntlet challenges or w/e but since it was solo i can't recommend it to be the main focus for an MMO but would be happy if they add more stuff like that in the future. (would be more happy with an expansion pack)
If Blizzard releases a new MMO it will probably either ruin their cash cow or the new MMO will just fail after it's honeymoon phase unless they link it to WoW with shared activities or stuff like that which i don't approve.
my top MMOs: UO,DAOC,WoW,GW2
most of my posts are just my opinions they are not facts,it is the same for you too.
A) Blizzard will not be releasing a new MMO anytime soon as they like to make money, and as they have the most successful MMO currently on the market, spending hundreds of millions of dollars to make a new MMO only to cannibalize their own subscribers is not something people who like to make money do.
As far as I know EVE is the only sleeper hit ever in the mmo industry so the question is more like: will there ever be another sleeper hit.
the only thing i have on my 2015 mmog wishlist is a Marvel Heroes port to the PS4. I would die happy if i can play that game with a gamepad. I doubt they will add gamepad support to the PC version so a port makes more sense to bring more people to the game and potentially more money to Gazillion.
Ive seen people say that cant happen because Gazillion is a small company.... well a lot of smaller companies are successfully porting their steam games to the PS4 so it is definitelly possible.
Either a PS4 port or gamepad support for the PC version would make me very happy.
Your complaint about guild wars 2 is stupid mostly because your issue is based entirely on the fact that most MMORPG before guild wars 2 punished players for playing with random players. Guild wars 2 is one of the few that actually makes seeing other players not as bad.
The zergy nature of the game which really isn't an issue in the newer content and it suppose "zergy" nature will never be gone because the whole game is designed to reward and encourage playing with other player versus other games where you compete against each other for resource.
It is just like in real life where everybody wants to be where the fun is at. It seems a litte immature to be complaining about other players wanting to experience the content just like you and good luck zerging the content.
Just for the organized groups =/= zerg, but I am sure you already knew that.
Sigh, I'm not sure the word 'challenging' means what you think it means. While what is challenging (to you) is subjective, it's meaning most definitely is not. While I'm all for more challenging content (in all games, not just MMOs), something being completed often doesn't necessarily mean it's not challenging.
Furthermore, the author's top 3 is actually a top 2. EQN and EQL are essentially the same game (EQL basically being the PTS for EQN).
Lastly, it's completely unrealistic to assume Blizzard is going to make a new MMO. Not only have they confirmed they are NOT, but if you look at what Blizzard is doing w/ their games it should be obvious that they aren't. They're clearly shifting focus away from MMORPGs, while keeping WoW up and running for the revenue. WoW may be on the decline, but it's still easy for Blizzard to milk it every step of the way down. If for no other reason than to fund other projects.
IF Blizzard makes another MMO, it will be only after they see the market stabilize a bit more, and have seen someone else create the next formula for MMO success. At which point (if they're still around) they'll sweep in w/ a game over their own, that basically copies the new formula while calling it their own. Just like what they did w/ WoW.
There's a reason many studios are shying away from MMOs as of late. Everyone loves the potential features MMOs can provide, but they don't want any of the stigma that comes w/ labelling your game 'MMO'. Heck, look at Destiny. They went out of their way to say the game wasn't an MMO, and yet people labelled it one anyway, and then criticized it for not being 'a true mmo'.
The term 'zerg' is missused about as much as the term 'p2w'.
Zerg implies a mindless mob, but is also used to essentially refer to any large group of players. Which is ironic, because that's essentially what raids are, and yet they don't get the same stigma. In the case of GW2 there are events like Triple Trouble & Tequatl that highlight this very well. Neither can be done without an organized group, and both tend to need a full zone of players to successfully complete.
Thats only partly true. In the case of Tequatl there are a good number of people in these scenarios that are really just fodder... and there is very little skill to it at all. You have some dedicated people that are there JUST for that, and thats all they do... and the initial understanding of how to complete that battle can be considered somewhat difficult, but at the end of the day it has nothing to do with "skill".
Skill to me means that you have the ability to do it with less people. That those with more "skill" can complete a task that those of lesser "skill" can complete. That isn't really possible in anything GW2 related, its primarily zerg related -- meaning the size of the groups you have. You can't do it with less people -- and the game isn't conducive to doing certain things with less.
I think skill is applicable in PvE, and to be honest I've felt like there are games out there that reward players for their skill, but by doing things that utilize "more skill" or technical proficiency in completing, you also make it less accessible to everyone. Thats why we are where we are right now in MMOs.
