1.6 is not a magic patch - it's a big patch but if you find the post-50 content boring you'll probably find it just the same after 1.6.
And VR is not going away in 1.6. The Champion Point system that will eventually replace VR ranks will be introduced in 1.6 but the VR ranks will continue until 1.7 or 1.8. So if that is what you want to wait for, you're looking at April or May.
Also... big patches, in all MMOs, usually mean many new bugs and balance issues... don't expect it to be smooth.
I currently play, enjoy it the way it is and am also looking forward to 1.6. I just don't want anyone to go back expecting ESO a Realm Reborn in February

I see this thread has some more traffic so my question might get answered and I am loath to create another thread for my questions. Sorry for piggybacking here.
I played this game during beta but suffice it be said I was not inclined to buy but recently I saw the price has dropped and I am thinking of picking this up. I had some issues with the camera that caused me some motion sickness headaches but I will try to solve that myself. I do not tab target so I have no issue with the targeting system plus all my skills are mapped to my mouse have a Logitech 600.
I am very group orientated and I enjoy grouping healing. I absolutely loved my gravity /empathy controller in City of Heroes and if I am ever asked what was the very best class I played I would probably place that on top followed by my traps Mastermind.
Is there any combination of skills that could get a class like these . Or if that is not possible how much dungeon crawling can I get in this game. I currently I do about 4 dungeons daily on the average in FFXIV ARR right now but in the middle of grinding my zodiac weapons (at infusing stage) I am getting a tad tired of the game so I'm looking for another game with dungeons and grouping with interesting boss mechanics and healing challenges. The reason I especially liked the two classes I mentioned was the combination of shielding, healing, crowd control and deciding what skill to use at the right time was the difference between doing well and keeping people alive and succeeding in our missions and of course the skill quotient was apparent. I liked that it made a difference when you played well in City of X it showed clearly. Does this game fit the bill ?

I like healing dungeons in ESO but it can be frustrating in the early levels - the healing abilities are fine, it's the tanks that only get enough abilities to be good at aggro management later on. It's rough in the first two tiers of dungeons (level 10-15 and 17-20) and you have to be very, very busy to heal well at those levels. It's a challenge, but I like it.
One recent very good change is that now all instanced dungeons scale to the level of the party leader. You can go back to earlier dungeons at any level and have a challenge. This really opened up running dungeons multiple times and as something you can do several times a day if that's what you want to do.
Group CC in ESO is more the responsibility of tanks than healers and good Dragonknight tanks take advantage of it to mitigate their lack of taunts early on. But depending on your class, you can also have group and individual CCs as a healer.
The best, most versatile healer that has all types of heals available to them are Templars with restoration staves... but they do lack CC. A sorcerer with a resto staff is also a viable healer with a bit more utility and both, individual and group CC. But be aware, all CC in this game is of very short duration - no parking a mob for 60 seconds while you deal with others.
Another unusual thing about ESO is that there are no targeted heals: there are some individual heals and shields but they are all of the "smart heal" variety that go to the party member who needs it the most. Most heals are either instant targeted area or cones or channeled group heals. There are a few unique ones where for example you cast a Purge on yourself to get rid of negative effects and any other nearby player in the AOE zone can actively also purge themselves. And there is one ability where you put a leech on a mob that will heal anyone attacking that target for 20 seconds.
It takes getting used to, but I like it because it's a very active system.

I'm also debating on re-subbing, or maybe not debating on re-subbing more like should I re-sub now or wait for 1.6 to go on the PTS. A lot of the changes they are making with this patch have me really intrigued. I know its not the magic patch and I know its not a "re-launch" of the game. But the Champion system has a lot of potential to fix some things that turned me off about the game after about 3 months or so.

Dont now why you really left the game, but if you did not like game content then there is nothing real new now, beside all the ala daily lazy dev new concepts. And about the 1.6 there will now be anything like new wow content. its more a few new stuff to fool around whit and some fix to the game over all, and some of the classes. (But there will not be done anything to the DK of the Sorc that will nurf the really).
So no, dont go back for 1.6 wait 6 mounth or so and the game will at that time more or less be f2p anyway.
If you enjoyed the game the first time you played, then you should sub regardless of what comes down the pipeline.
By ZOS' plans for the game, if you spend time waiting for the next big update, you will stall yourself from a great play experience for a very long time.
Update 1.6 will introduce Champion and Justice System, but that will be on the PTS this month, not on Live. If you don't like testing things and reporting bugs and providing feedback using ingame tools, then it wouldn't be worth your time if you don't already enjoy the game, as new systems mean unexpected bugs and intermittent play. I suspect most will hop on the PTS to see what these changes will mean to their Live characters, probably allocate a few points and steal a few items and piss off a few guards, and that will be pretty much most of their interaction with the PTS server before they log into their main account to do their dailies and crafting writs. Though, there are a few of us who will test it out (start a new character and play through it all, even the skipable Introduction zone!).
Update 1.6 will change aspects of all gameplay since these are core Character Advancement and NPC interaction changes, but ESO is still ESO. [ which is why I am still subbed since early access ]
Objectively though, I can say I've been surprised by the amount of people returning who were externally so upset during launch (for some fair and unfair reasons) and return to basically the same game and be excited for it again.
Originally posted by ohioastro The current play definitely does favor co-operation with other players (world bosses, dolmens, and so on), so it's not actively counter-productive a la LOTRO.
^^ I solo the bosses on a lvl 39 nightblade bow/dd build - if you know what you are doing with skills solo is perfectly fine.....
Of course if you chose the wrong tools to level pve then you will fail and need group.
p.s regarding the right tools for the job, I can make it so the boss does not even have time to move or get a shot of any combat move off at all, then he dies. Try not to give information as a cert if you are unaware of the possibilities with the game.
"Wait. LFG not working , PVP lag, combat unresponsiveness and their current focus on cosoles is what we have now. Among all other bugs and stupid design decisions (UI)."
^^ wtf is that rubbish lol - unresponsiveness from issues and combat etc, I dont have neither of that. Where did you come from? some struggling mmo somewhere?
No. I come from MMOs where when you press a button an action DOES happen. Not like in ESO when it might happen. Or it might not.
Meaning you lack the skill to keep your crosshair exactly on the target...... Not having the target in your crosshair is the reason of skill activation not working.... I.e. You can not use the skill because you have no target for a targetted attack..
Simple as that
Or it could be that you lack the skill of noticing when something is not working as it should. Furthermore, having the target in your crosshair is not THE reason for skill activation.
While I do understand that it's very simple just pressing buttons and watchings effects fly across the screen, sometimes you have to invest a bit more of yourself into the game, if you want to know what is really happening.
To OP: Wait. We still don't know what or how 1.6 will turn out and who else, besides VR14, ZOS will shaft next. And, imagine how many bugs 1.6 will bring. ZOS is good at many things, fixing bugs is not one of them. They've been silent ever since they announced they will not deliver on their promise, so now we are in a waiting game to see who will be the first to make some sort of explanation for 30 CP fiasco.
Well, I'll probably be on the test server for most of my time until the new updates are on live.
Haven't played main server in a month, mainly because I'm anticipating the changes... first time I've gone without it for so long lol, but recently got a lot of other things during the holidays. Perhaps wait until the test server is patched up and then you'll basically get to play both.
I would wait If I was OP. While ESO has improved on some things from launch, overall performance is dropping. PVP is more or less either empty or filled with people that are not moving (terrible lag on both servers). Certain skills are still having problems with activation (flurry). Communication is at such a low level, I would be amazed if ZOS doesn't take the crown for worst CS from EA. They make promises they don't keep or possibly even know they will not keep. While we are aiting for them to fix bugs, they are working on a console version, which will have a completely new UI (PC UI has set a new standard for worst UI in a game), will be able to play withou add ons (part of why PC UI is lo terrible) and have the pleasure of us beta testing their game for them.
And beside, there's talk ob ESO going aither F2P or B2P in the near future. So ... wait.

Actually all classes are having problems with activation due to connection latency... though the skills work about 99.99% of the time. Best way to reset is to quickly open and close a menu and get right back in. I know this, because rapid strikes (flurry morph) is the bread and butter of my build, so I should know about how often it locks or doesn't lock.
Communication about things they know is good. Communication about things they are discussing isn't open, likely because they don't want to say anything incorrect (as has happened a few times in the past).
I understand the frustration though. The bug problems seem mostly related to server capabilities and not related to the databuilds themselves (unless the programming is iterating something over and over, bogging the server). Though a frequently bugging dungeon for me wasn't bugged today! No update changed between the last time so it seems to be something else at play causing the bugging, which is rare overall in the game. I can think of one world boss I can't complete. One dungeon which bugs quite a bit. And one quest that I can't complete. Pretty good considering the myriad world bosses, dungeon iterations and quests there are.
And the UI opinion is very subjective. I personally think it's one of the best UI's I've seen for an MMO, been playing since 1999 EQ. There are addons you can download to modify that though, as was likely ZOS' intent.
And there's always been talk of ESO going F2P since before the launch.
People said it would go F2P a month later... nope.
Then 3 months later... nope.
Then 6 months later... ahem.
Then before 2015... not even.
It might happen someday, when development seems light, but only when ZOS feels it's capable of operating that way. And it will probably start as an optional f2p experience with limitations. At the moment, it's enjoying the benefit of monthly subs. And we as subscribers are enjoying a complete experience for less than the price of a soda a day.
