That is how I looked at it, and I was screwed over. I was one of the "good" guys BTW and have been spending money with Trion since they first hit the scene. I chose to play even knowing about the hacks and cheats, watching illegal activity every single day I logged on after launch. I had fun, I spent well over $2K in ArcheAge.  I certainly would never tell someone to ignore the experience of another player - let them make their choice based on all types of info, not just that of the White Knight society, or the Haterz without reason.

It is worth trying but as I've said in some other posts, don't get too emotionally invested like I did.   You may find that some of the shine begins to wear off.   It certainly did for my husband and me and we canceled our subs.    We both made the mistake of purchasing 3 and 6 months subs and now I regret that very much.

I don't mind grindy games or ones that take a bit of time to achieve something.  My feeling is that AA is a slowly dying game that had great potential but managed to lose quite a bit of its player base.   I would probably invest more of my time (not wallet) into the game if I felt that I would be playing it a year from now but alas every time I log in, it feels like an empty place.   Most of my guild mates have quit, just log on to pay the rent or are afk gaining labor points.   I had quite a bit of fun when things were more active but now it just feels dead.

I also feel that Trion doesn't have their heart into the game anymore.  The official forums are very quiet places these days and it is disconcerting not to see more from Trion.   My faith in Trion has certainly diminished and I'm not even sure I would check out Rift again.  I always felt that with Rift, Trion was behind it 200%.  I realize they are just the publisher and not the developer but I think there could be more activity on their parts.   My whole experience in AA did not leave me with a good feeling.

If you enjoy MMO's, try as many as you can.   There are so many options available these days that you'll likely find one or more that you enjoy.

As far as AA goes, it's free to try so there's really no reason no to.

My recommendations for AA would be:

    - Watch some tutorials on Youtube to get a solid understanding of the core concepts

    - Find a decent sized, active guild

    - Take your time and enjoy the leveling / learning process.

Archeage has 4 aspects to be evaluated: the game itself, the coding, the monetization and the tecnical management.

The game itself is awesome. Is the better in the market right now, im my humble opinion.

The coding is very bad. Very easy to be hacked and all sort of gamebreaking cheats were and still are being made.

The cash shop is terrible. It's blatantly P2W and is becoming worse. Some "traps" were made in the past (p2w itens added in the last hour, before launch, when people already purchased packages belienving the CS system was settled).

The management is catastrophic. It's simply the worst mmo management i have seen so far. The basic care with technical issues, the fixing of problemes, the decisions about imbalances created by cheats, the customer support.... nothing can be saved.

Conclusion: AA is a good mmo with terrible coding, management and monetization system. In the general sum, the negative aspects surpass the positive (even to ppl, like me, that loves sandbox pvp focused mmos. Imagine now the ppl that dislike...). So, isn't worth a try... at least for now.

It's free to play (yes, yes, to those pay to win people, we hear you).  So why not give it a try.  If you don't like it, no harm, no foul.  If you do like it, then you can begin to decide if you wanna put some coin into it.

I had a great time in it.

It's an F2P game, just download and try it yourself.

The developer (XLGames in Korea), seem to have shifted their focus to their new up-and-coming MMO (Civilization Online), so I'm not sure what exactly the future holds for Archeage, but only time will tell.

Since your not sure, AA is far from abandoned by the devs.
