WildStar: Focus on the Future

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

WildStar Product Director Mike Donatelli has posted a manifesto of sorts on behalf of the development team as it looks to the future in 2015. The letter to fans and players lays out the focus for the team for the balance of the year.

To that end, the team has three main areas of focus:

  • To make Wildstar more fun and less 'grindy', the team is committed to listening and responding to its players

  • Changes to the game will be focused on the long term and will embody the notion that all players will be supported: a multitude of play styles, durations, group sizes and levels

  • The game will grow due to investment and enhancement

To learn more about each of these topics, head to the WildStar site.

Remove that impossible 1 toolbar button mashing limit .... and I'm instantly back to Wildstar.

That's a long hard road_ it's taken Swtor up until now to finally get to a respected point, once you buy a game and decide to quit after such high hopes, it takes time, I will say Swtor never would have received a second chance if it wasn't for f2p.

I just resubbed yesterday to see if there were any improvements for amd users, I can report that overall the fps are better across the board but some spots are still problematic but its playable now.  I am finally having fun with Wildstar.

"We will encourage and listen carefully to your – the player’s – feedback and focus development on making WildStar a more fun, less grindy, game. "- M.D.

Take out stats on pvp gear  to  make pvp more enjoyable (ala. gw2) to all remaining players and revive the pvp community that wildstar dosent have at the moment.

It required a disaster for the devs to realize and acknowledge the games flawed designs. Better late than never i guess.

I wish things go way better for WS in 2015. The game has a solid backbone and with NCSoft's financial means it can get back on its feet and prosper.

It's the final lesson to learn for mmo development. And it's usually the hardest. The give and take between developer and customer is unique to this genre. It's not easy for devs to act on customer feedback. Especially when they are the ones putting their blood sweat and tears into their baby so to speak.
I hope it works out for them.

If the camera locked to a crosshair I would have loved this game, but it feels too clunky the way it currently is.

I only played the 7 day trial of this game as duo with a rl friend.

As team it was fun cause I could give in to my heal and buffing side.

Thing is none of us wants to buy the box and dedicate our major gaming time into this while the subscription clock is ticking.

So it's pressure free B2P for us or bust. We are in no hurry.

    • Datascape 20 – the 40-person dungeon wasn’t getting played as often as we hoped. Not only was the content challenging, but roster management was painful. In the next update we will lower the player requirement down to 20.

Hate WoW as much as you want, but there was always a reason for their changes including eliminating 40 man raids. Wildstar just choose to learn that the hard way I guess.

More like too stubborn to learn. The writing was on the wall but they ignored it and went ahead with 40 man raids anyways.

Let see how they do this year, as Hardcore was in  the dev mind when they made wildstar, never know if start getting people back, may end up very grindy again to keep hardcore in it's place.

Meanwhile WoW brought back 40 man raiding for 2 months just to remind people how bad it was back in the day. It was a funny refresher

Looking forward to Wildstar in 2015

Still the best MMORPG (in my opinion ofc) out there.

    Good luck Carbine!

The future is looking good for WS, can't wait to see what happens in 2015 and Drop 4 should be landing soon!

I'm waiting for the inevitable influx of FTP tears because the games not failing like they want it to and they're to cheap to pay.

Lets not kid ourselves.  having 50 buttons on the UI with only 10 being useful is also not pleasant.  And I think it works rather well in Wildstar because you have to think about what abilities you want to bring, and it can change your play style drastically.  Like my raid for example, we have 3 or 4 dps medics depending upon the night, and we each have a different build, and each are competitive in damage.

How many games can make that type of claim?

For those not in tune to what is going on, Drop 4 is heavy on teaching the solo player the mechanics of the game, and getting the early levels more involved with group content, as well as proper itemization on gear.  Amongst a massive list of bug fixes which are working on the PTR.

The community is making a heavy plea for Carbine to make Drop 5 focused on fixing all things PvP.  itemization in drop 4 will help with the gear, but there are a whole host of other things that make PvP silly.  I hope that they do this because with Drop 4 and a PvP centric Drop 5, the game should have what it needs to please everybody that doesn't hate the art style, and combat style.

It's still got the story that has hooked me in like no game before it.  Very underrated aspect of Wildstar.

Calling people trolls, being completely delusional and of course the "we are the only players that count" attitude.

I would report you for trolling and spamming but I won't since I feel kind of sorry for you.

All these promises sound exactly the same to what they said pre-launch too. I'll wait until it's real before I believe them again.

Sounds like someones still mad because they can't afford a sub.

How perceptive of you to realize that yes, paying customers do count more then someone on a forum not spending a dime or playing the game.

I'm actually subbed to SWTOR and I don't even respect the developers (Bioware) or the publisher (EA). They continue to milk players with the cartel market and release mini-xpacs, instead of an actual expansion. They still haven't even fixed Twi'leks so they can wear hoods and so that hats don't  look all messed up when worn by them (I mean seriously, the fact that this is even an issue when they had a reported $200 million to make the game just points to utter laziness on Bioware's part when it came to coding). Literally, the only reason I'm subbed is because I love Star Wars, and enjoy being part of a community of gamers and RP enthusiasts that share my love for the IP.

I definitely wouldn't call how the game is treated by EA or Bioware "respectable" though.

SWTOR got his second chance mainly because of the huge IP behind it. Of course Bioware made good use of said chance and now the game prospers.

Carbine does not have a huge IP backing up their product but they do have NCSofts money. As i stated numerous times i'm sure that NCSoft won't let this game wither away.

Can you elaborate on how they are "milking players" with the cartel market? I am a subber as well and so far i only open my wallet to pay for the subscription, nothing else. Plus i am sitting on about 8K cartel points. As a subber nothing forces you to spend additional money unless you chose to do so.
