The OP indeed needs to pick up a history book or 2.
Even today in our "enlightened" world only 40% of the world is considered "free" and this number is dropping. Keeping a narrow 1st world view of democracy and freedom is a position of ignorance against the tides of history.
Not even 1% of this world is free. Everything has a price even natural resources like water.

I'm fairly sure he has bigger issues than that, since I'm not quite convinced he really knows what "tyranny" means.
Wit the exception of House Dres' slaves, each faction's people seem to be getting treated fairly by their rulers, and not oppressed like they would be under an actual tyrannical regime.
Out of all the comments, up to yours i havent felt a need to respond, but yours really takes the cake. Saying that its not tyranny when one over lord makes the only choice as to what happens. All 3 factions are controlled by one person, yet you seem to think its not tyranny, because some of the people are treated alright........
Monarch: a hereditary sovereign, as a king, queen, or emperor.
Dictator: a person exercising absolute power, especially a ruler who has absolute, unrestricted control in a government without hereditary succession.
Tyrant: any person in a position of authority who exercises power oppressively or despotically.
Carry on...

Well Queen Ayreen is 100 percent a Tyrant. I mean she has secret police, and you become one of them. They should of made that group of rebels freedom fighters, not some other Tyrant working for a death god. So i guess out of the two i would rather have a none death god cult.

Are you new to the game or just haven't been paying attention?
Queen Ayrenn's enemies are the Veiled Heritance - an Altmer supremacist group that objects to having savages (Bosmer) and beasts (Khajiit) in the alliance. That's the main conflict in the Aldmeri Dominion for the first 3 zones not the Molag Bal main story line. The AD story line then shifts to some Bosmer in-fighting in the 4th zone and Khajiit infighting in zone 5.

I havent got very far into it no. It sounded to me after the quest where they try to kill the queen, that they were going to be part of the death cults. So yeah i made it to there.

Every single democracy has secret police as well. Call it MI5 or CIA or whatever.

This is another discussion altogether but it is my opinion that Ayrenn and the Veiled Heritence have exactly the same goals, Ayrenn is just a lot smarter in how she goes about it.
It's literally the only explanation that makes the 26-year-old child queen thing make sense to me. And all that stuff they sing about her doing? Baseless propaganda.
If Ayrenn gets the throne, she will turn right around and slap the slave shackles on all the Bosmer and Khajiit and any other non-Altmer who helped her get there, mark my words.

Just so long as "they" remain in control, behind the scenes... ^^ Its like the tops of most real life power systems. Those who get "elected" or manage to seize power, dance to the tune of the real Powers That Be, or they get "regime changed".
As for the OP's question. One word; Power. It eventually corrupts just about anyone and anything that has enough of it.
Okay OP and anyone who agrees. You don't like Tyrannical Dictators but you never offered an alternative. Don't bash the story writer if you can't come up with a better story yourself. :P

It is clearly a sociological statement.
You stay sassy!
You are describing a dictator, not a tyrant.
Definition time:
Monarch: a hereditary sovereign, as a king, queen, or emperor.
Dictator: a person exercising absolute power, especially a ruler who has absolute, unrestricted control in a government without hereditary succession.
Tyrant: any person in a position of authority who exercises power oppressively or despotically.
