Hey, so I'm wondering if this game is worth coming back to now, I haven't played really since beta/the very start of launch, where there were hour long queues and a lot of complaint threads. How is the game doing now?
When all is said and done, more is always said than done.

Hiya Paigey, interesting to see you here. xD
ArcheAge has gone through both positive and negative changes, so i suppose it depends on what you would personally find forgiving.
I say that because Trion allowed some very game-breaking Cash-shop tactics created by XLgames to slip through the cracks, and it caused a lot of people to leave despite having sank a lot of time and real-money to support their land plots.(Granted that this was back when the northern continent "Auroria". had first launched.)
Again, it's about what you are willing to forgive and tolerate, this was back in November so i have not personally tried it again since; so i could not say for certain how things are going beyond what i have stated.
In my opinion, most people are better off spending money on a subscription-based game; because you will spend money in ArcheAge if you hope to realistically get anywhere at a reasonable pace.

Yes, this MMORPG doesn't serve instagive and insta max mentality, avoid it if you that type. Not recomment to anyone with litle timespan attention and to people not know how to focus on goals and have self-control over their actions.
OP you need to specify more about the reasons you left. The queues are long gone what are you wanting out from a MMORPG ?
Its the best MMORPG at the moment.
better say "it's the best mmo for YOU at the moment" because for me there is an other game "the best" on the market :P
what really is interresting to know is how they handled botting and exploiting until now.. because there has been very very much of it and it looked like they didn't do anything about it (maybe it looked like it because there has been too much). especially in pvp there were much cheating better say exploiting
The game is utter and complete garbage. Don't bother wasting time on it. It's a full-blown money-grab with a terrible community and even worst customer service. Nothing positive has changed. Save your sanity and time.

The reviews from last year are still validate.
Awesome game! Interesting that I haven't seen one gold spammer in faction chat or ingame mail for a few days now..seems that Trion's spam filter is working...:) Hopefully the hackers are next.
The game is still fun and highly immersive. I recommend Ollo server for a higher population.
Have fun!
This is a complete bullshit statement!
You can play without paying a dime(other than your Patron sub) and have a totally awesome experience. You make your own fun and that's where the greatness is with ArcheAge.
The only money you have to pay is what you CHOOSE to pay. Your definition of money grab is all wrong. Does AA monetize things about gameplay, yes. Will paying get you ahead faster, yes.
You could just play until you feel the game requires your $, and at that point you can either pay or quit. I personally spend $15-$25 a month and find the game enjoyable. I can only devote about 15 hours of playtime a week, but I still feel like I have a chance in 1v1 against most players.
The payment model and hackers were AA's only two real flaws for me, and the hackers are basically gone. Every other MMO has actual gameplay design that I can't shake off as easy.
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile
In my experience the mail blocker isn't working; I have 4 pages of spam in my mailbox and I can't delete it unless I'm willing to produce a money trail by taking the 1s enclosed with each by the spammer.
Other than the spam, AA is okay. I enjoyed my house and farms but after 90 days, it's pretty much all I was doing so that seemed a dumb reason to continue to sub. I sold off everything and can build a boat or farmcart or both, but haven't been inclined to do much of anything lately. Your mileage may vary.
It's actually true, if you READ THE STATEMENT.
I really wanna see people try crafting if they're not subbed lol. The only real thing you can look forward to doing if you're not subbed is using the public farm and do trade runs to make some cash. Unless you have friends or guildies who allow you to use their farms. Once you get tired of that you can go do some Hasla farming just make sure you're on the west faction because that's what most players sided on. Besides that, everything you feel like doing, it will take you 2x longer while you're playing, and then the incredible downtime when you log back in because you're labor points don't refresh when you're offline.
Oh, did I mention your labor point is capped at 2,000 while subscribers are capped at 5,000? You can use/buy those worker's comp pots, but you'll still be going at an extremely slow pace.
Not sure which server your on but bots and exploits are still plentiful in-game. Ontop of that neither game companies have had much improvement in consideration of these issues. Player-related questions still go unanswered, avoided, or looped for the most part. Sadly its not the $15 isn't an issue but the game's RNG, exploits, bots, and money-grabs which still are.

Server Population Drops

OP may choose to join ArcheAge but don't expect much improvements from XL-Games or Trion. Take it from a player that's been playing since the begining.
Hunh, interesting. An official Trion representative basically confirmed that some server populations are... well, not as high as Trion would like.
"We're working on some plans now to help stimulate some of the lower population servers. A lot of this will have to do with encouraging new players to roll there. That doesn't mean server mergers are out of the question but we want to try a couple other avenues first."
Admittingly, it's kind of to be expected that server populations drop a bit as a game ages, but Archeage isn't really that old and clearly Trion itself is not very happy with the situation on some servers if they're giving that sort of reply (IE, server population has dropped more than Trion thinks they should have)
I can agree with everything EXCEPT the bot populations. It's definitely gone downhill. If you haven't noticed, all you have to look at is the Auction House. The prices on EVERYTHING has inflated almost exponentially. Its almost completely player ran now, which is the reason for the inflation. Bots aren't farming the basic materials people need anymore. They are just grinding to max level to farm coin purses and doing trade runs to sell gold now.
I would come back as soon as they would add a new level cap. Got everything cause I am such a cash shop badass, give me a new level cap or more items to buy and I will come back.
Ok, I stop joking now. OP - no not really
The nature of MMORPGs is such that you can't really get a good jist of the game within a short time span. You can't just spend 1-3 hours in an MMO and then know from there whether or not it'll be a fun game for you to play. Especially because many MMOs, Archeage included, change DRASTICALLY at various points (normally once you hit level cap. Or when you get land, which in AA requires being a patron (IE, not free). Or when you get a ship. Or when you get to the point where you're raiding. Or doing castle sieges. Or strong enough to PvP. Or far enough that you get owned in PvP by whales. Or whatever else)
By the time you've reached THAT point, you've spent a LOT of time in that game.
And Time is NOT free. We only get 70-100 years of that stuff tops before we drop dead, you know. Sometimes less. Way less.
So sometimes it's better to just ask first and possibly save yourself that time.
Define what you mean by worth coming back to and you will get a better answer. That's pretty open ended and highly subjective without quantifiers.
First of all, using Archeage forums as a source is already misinformation. The forums are where everyone who dies in PvP runs off to in order to complain about the game and bring as many people down with them as they can.
RNG moves the market, if you could get everything right away (or predictably), things people grow, produce and sell would cease to have a market. WE ALL have the same odds stacked against us, if you want a completely fair and balanced PvP system, there are definitely other games for that and probably close to none within the MMORPG genre.
Labor is where the money is, bash it if you want, but I make tons of money off my labor because I know what to do with it. Not saying that certain players won't find it inhibiting, but at the same time, there is plenty to do that doesn't involve labor.
Inflation is fine, happens in all games, it's not a big deal. A free player could make gold easier now than ever before actually as traditional methods used by the rich and famous to produce gold such as; Fishing boats, Trade Pack Haulers and Landhoarding are basically fluff at this point.
Population is lower, no doubt. But again this happens in all games that aren't World of Warcraft and it hasn't impeded my gameplay yet in any way, still plenty of people and housing developments are still full.
In regards to the thread topic; AA isn't for everyone, it requires a lot of playtime to get your character decked out, but at the same time offers one of the best economies & open world pvp in the genre. It could be better and I have thought about quitting from time to time, but then something so insane and awesome will happen to me and I will stay.
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile
Until you run out of labor points, which is a VERY easy thing to do. A little crafting, harvesting, mining, fishing... and empty.
And Trion did it on purpose, so people, would have to buy labor potions.
Period.
And when those labor points are gone, you get a very slow regen rate, or.... off to the cash shop... which is the whole point.
For a person paying a sub, that is just insulting.
Not being able to do what you want, even when paying a sub, due the the gated labor point BS, is most assuredly not awesome.
Rofl...level cap increase already?? Wow, talk about desperation. Now I KNOW I will never come back to this game.
