Dang, Marvel Heroes is way ahead of everything lol. I came back a few days ago, haven't played since the 2012 CBT, lots of good changes, pretty heavy on the cash shop tbh, but when you need a super hero ARPG.. :_)
When all is said and done, more is always said than done.
Saying I will not do it because it's cheating doesn't change the fact that they did give away a free hero! It's just covering their ass! Also if you notice, that post was edited after I posted my comment.
The thank you reward from the last poll wasn't planned and wasn't announced before the poll was concluded. Having done that, though, while it was very nice of them, they were right to make clear that was a one-time thing and they're not offering rewards for subsequent prestige. If you look at it in hindsight, I can see someone raising an argument, but if you were to see it in the order in which events occur, I think it was fine, even very nice.
Divinity: Original Sin and Wasteland 2 for RPGs, though the showing in general was strong.
MMORPGs though? Not nearly so strong. The fact that Marvel Heroes is leading speaks volumes. I personally voted AA for it's scope, imagination, and ambition, all of which I applaud and look for in my games.
Just logged into MH's forums and the game itself and now I understand why the community voted this much, it's not because _as they kept bragging about- their love for their community, it's because the devs are giving ingame items for people to go vote hahahaha!
I'm new to the game, just downloaded it today, and I am disappointed by their lack of professionalism.
MH announced the free hero giveaway AFTER they had already won the awards, not during the voting. Because MH is cool like that sometimes and gives us free stuff. They have specifically said they will not be doing that this time. Nice misinformation post though.
Marvel Heroes, and one of the worst MMOs released this year, ESO, are #1 and 2? All credibility for this website has been lost. Give credit where it is due. FFXIV has released more content over the last year than any of those MMOs combined. It has also managed to keep from going to F2P or B2P over a year after being re-released. FFXIV changed everything you ever thought about failed MMOs - it went from being one of the worst MMOs in history, to having over 2.5 million paying subscribers. FFXIV will go down in history as the only MMO that managed to do that. Instead you all are praising games on their last leg, that will be forgotten in a year's time.
All this is, is a popularity contest. This website has never been a supporter of FFXIV and it never will. It's so sad.
I feel like you are giving a little too much praise to FFXIV, I play it, and I enjoy it, but it did not bring more content (fixing the game is not new content) than any other mmo out there in the last year, actually, it barely brought any content compared to some of the other AA titles. And I do give credit to Square for being able to release the game, but at the same time, we can look at it in another way, I bought the first release of the game, and I felt scammed, so to me, it was Square's responsibility to do something about that. The first version of the game was probably one of the worst releases of an mmorpg ever. The game is ok, but it is not amazing, I play it casually because when I invest a few hours in it, I get bored of the constant empty grind to lvl other classes. To call FFXIV one of the greats, Square still has a long way to go. As I said, I enjoy it, but I feel that you think too highly of the game, you can say that you, personally find it to be the best, but you cannot say that it is better than other games.
Perhaps I am biased towards my favorite MMO atm, but so is everyone else here. As far as what you said about the content updates for FFXIV over the last year, you're wrong in saying that all those updates did was continue to fix the game. Every patch after 2.0 came with new content and those content patches have been coming out every 3-4 months. And over a year later, FFXIV is thriving with tons of new content, and a considerable number of paying subscribers. A future that was once bleak, is now shining brightly.
People are praising Marvel Heroes because it fixed the problems it had at launch and is now in a good place, but the changes made to FFXIV far exceed those made to Marvel Heroes. As I said before in my previous post, what Square Enix did with FFXIV was a game changer - they made it possible for a AAA MMO title to go from complete failure to worldwide success. No MMO in history has ever done that. All Marvel Heroes did was secure its F2P status, while FFXIV went from dead to having over 2.5 mil paying subscribers.
How many MMOs over the last few years have actually managed to do that? None. They have all either gone F2P or B2P.
SE have stated that they have 1 mill subs in total, across 3 games, so where are the 2.5 mil paying subs that you claim they have?
Whole post stinks of BS tbh.
A creative person is motivated by the desire to achieve, not the desire to beat others.
They aren't giving anything to players to vote. That's an unsubstantiated false claim and a disingenious lie. And yes, my lip service here is whatever it is, and I do spend money on MH because I like the game. I don't understand your logic. How dare I talk up a game I support. Isn't that the whole point? Your stance is that your community doesn't come here to vote so MH aplayers are cheaters for coming here and now these baseless claims of devs giving us gifts to vote? Lol People came here to vote, no gifts, but it's humorous to see people grasping for a rationalization other than the fact that the community really is this passionate about a game they play.
I'm one of those mmorpg.com lurkers, I don't usually comment, but I have voted in these polls. I voted South Park and Marvel Heroes. SP cause it was refreshing and had me laughing the entire time. MH because I've been playing that game for over a year now and it's only getting better with age like a fine wine.
Marvel heroes is winning for a reason we have a very active and vocal community who genuinely love the game we play, and for the most part those who make it. The majority of you disparaging Marvel Heroes have never played it, at least not in a very very long time. Perhaps instead of spewing vitriol at MH, you people should load it up and see why it's doing so well, then you may still have time to change your vote from ESO or whatever to MH when you realize it is winning on it's own merit.
Golarum you sir are a troll and a liar and should be banned.
Marvel Heroes isn't buying votes, even against all our jokes to the contrary(I want a real life pony if we win! @David Brevik). MH did indeed give out a free hero after the fact of winning most improved a week or so after we won that, but that was more of a thank you and not a payoff. Marvel heroes gives out gifts like this very often, sometimes as often as twice a month or more. They've given free hero codes to many websites and there are dedicated websites just tracking the free stuff MH gives out to their community. I have a 2nd account that is just free to play that i only log in to get free stuff with, and over the past year it's up to 6 free heroes and countless boosters just from redeem codes, so don't confuse promo/free stuff with buying votes.
Now this is entirely too long so I will bid you all good day.

LOL!! First of all, I am far from being a troll! As I stated in one of my comments earlier today, I had not played MH before casting my vote, so I have no idea if that game is good or not and will not talk about it's merits or flaws, I pointed out to the point that it should not be in the list as it is not an mmorpg.
It's a mmo arpg. There are some open zones which have scores of players at one time. Granted, many are instanced, but some are open. Anyway, this line of discussion, and believe it, with you I agree, is as old as the decision to include D3 here, so, you're not going to do much with that line of argument. It's really more mmo than alot of the other supposed mmos here.
lol MH a Diablo Clone? More like D3 is a Diablo clone. MH is created by the creator of RPG's and Diablo (David Brevik)! MH is going to win because the Dev team is just that awesome and they are creating a game the fans love and are giving the fans what they want simple as that. They listen they patch every week they are always working on content, events, heroes and improving existing features, systems, heroes and items. Most importantly they actually play the game unlike D3 Devs which don't know anything about their own game.
I like Marvel Heroes and all, but how is Diablo 3 an RPG and Marvel Heroes a MMORPG?
they are both in the same category to me.
Both are arpg (action role play game), that's just what the "isometric engine, click to move, primarily based on loot pickup" genre is called. There are others, torchlight, path of exile, sacred, dark souls. I discussed in the earlier post about "mmo".
The devs of any gaming company don't care at all about you guys, they only care about the money you bring, that is a reality check for you guys. I know that, I do spend money on games knowing that just for the fact thatI like the product, but I will not defend a game to the bone like if it is personal... LOL!
If you played the game, and were a part of the online community there, you would know just how wrong you are. The fact that the devs regularly interact with and take active advice from the community is what makes the game great, and is why it also won best improved, and if it keeps going at this rate, might even win it again next year. Their 1st priority, as should be the priority of any gaming company (looking at you Ubisoft) is the gamer's exerience, and if that gamer likes the game, then they'll spend more on it, which will give the company more resources to improve the game, which will improve the gamer's experience, which they'll spend more money on, and so on and so on. Marvel Heroes has really hit the nail on the head in that department, especially since even if they keep making things better and better, you don't have to spend a penny to fully enjoy the game if you don't want to.
Marvel Heroes being in this list is a joke. The fact that it's somehow winning currently is a bigger one. Did they post this on their launcher or something?
It's a cheap Diablo clone with a Marvel-hero skin and has no business being on this list when actual MMORPGs like Eve Online are left off.
How is Marvel not an MMO? It is Massive, it is Multiplayer and it is Online. MMO doesn't mean persistent world. I believe you do play the role as a Marvel hero so that falls under RPG as well.
Just because you don't like the game, doesn't mean a ton of other people don't as well. By the way, I didn't like the game so I'm not a white knight for the game, I just disagree with your reasons for not wanting it on the list.

I agree with you, there are devs out there who care about the player experience, but they do care about it because they have a good business sense and know that it'll bring them more money, it is a business after all and there's no problem with that. What I was saying is that some players defend games like if these games were part of their personal lives, and that to me is pathetic...I will ask two questions, if you get sick, will the devs ask about you, send you flowers or pay the hospital bills? Or let's say you're playing a monthly fee game, and you've been paying for 2 years and one month you go through a rough financial situation, will they let you continue playing? Of course not....That is what I'm saying, but your point, I agree with.

For a game to be defined as an RPG, you actually have to play the role of a character, making decisions, being part of the story, defining the story through your decision. Playing a premade hero in an action game does not make it an RPG, if so, then any game out there is an RPG, you can remove all other game types, because technically in an FPS, you're playing a character, in a platformer you're playing a character, in an adventure game you're playing a character, and so on.
People came here to help their game to get recognition they deserve. MH is winning because they have the best gaming community there is. Their players care, they help each other out all the time. And trolling or flaming? That is almost non-existent in that game and actually occassional troll is pretty much welcome, since it is something we don´t see much. Developers communicate with players on daily basis. Artists, content designers, engineers, community manager even big boss Brevik with his wife play the game with us mortals, talk with us, joke with us and sometimes even troll us
That game is like a wine. Older it gets, the better. And you can freely choose to not pay a single dollar for it and you will still enjoy it a lot. They chose to make an enjoyable game where people are willing to pay money over a game that people need to pay for in order to enjoy it. I am Slovak and I found enough fellow citizens there which I cannot say about any other mentioned game.
I don´t know how it looked during Christmas in other games, but MH? It was Christmas time. Literally. Everyone was giving something away. People gifted things to other people. Random or friend? Didn´t matter, cause they still cared and gave away things they worked hard for. As long as it made the other person happy. It was happy time in our little community and it only showed how people truly care to help. We don´t compete with each other, we help each other to achieve better things and that you don´t see in other games.
Also, I want to comment on one user here who accused them of bribing players to vote for this game. There was no such thing and never will be. They gave us free hero and a boost after the last voting, yes. But they did´t tell us they would do it, they didn´t tell us to go vote for something in return. Ordinary players informed us about it, so we went to vote. Then devs aknowledged it and joined in on the fun. We won and they decided to celebrate it with us. They gave us free things for winning, but no one was expecting it, really. No one did it for free things. We all did it, because we knew they deserve it and we wanted them to be acknowledged. Some people who play game can even say, that we expected gifts for it, because frankly, they give away things all the time for anything really. They actually reward us for our time spend playing much more than in any other game. So did I know they would give me anything? No. Did I expect them to? Yes. Would I be disappointed if they would not? No. Why? Because they are rewarding, not bribing. They can reward us with anything. Few days ago, the CEO of company, David Brevik, rewarded us with his play time. Other devs joined in on all the fun and it was rewarding. We learned so much, we experimented with game, laughed and even cried. They are fans of their own game, they play it with us, so that alone makes this game go ahead of anything else on the list.
The best thing about this game is that it has healthy community and you play with like-minded easy-going people and you really enjoy this stress-free enviroment.
I voted for MH because of community it has and I will vote in any other similar polls any time anyone brings it up as long as I will enjoy the game. What is the best accomplishment for developers of the game? Winning poll like this? No, not really. It is seeing people to actually care about things that concern this game.
We don´t have large multimillion community like other games, we just have community that cares and that is all that matters really.
D3 is RPG because they do not have any instance or area with more then 1 party (6 players? I cant remember I have not played D3 in a very long time.)
MH has story mode which holds way more players( i don't know the max). They have Midtown which holds at least 10 players and can hold more if you invite others to the instance and Industry City Patrol is the same. Raids hold 10 people.
POE is similar to MH in that it has open areas that all players can join freely. D3 does not.
To all of you who simply read the comments section or are confused/angered by how Marvel Heroes 2015 is so far in front, let me explain and de-bunk a few things:
* We did not get bribed to vote. We have been explicitly told we are NOT getting anything if we win this.
* We're not mindless sheep, 12 year olds who are voting because Wolverine hurr-durr. This community has some of the most mature players I've ever played with, along with some really, really impressive theorycrafters. (I say this as someone who's been playing MMO's for the past 15 years).
* Yes, the developers made a post on the forums saying there is a poll, and if we think Marvel Heroes deserve to win, we should vote for them. Is there anything bad about that? No. There isn't. If any of the other games did the same thing they wouldn't get the same reaction Marvel Heroes has had, and that's because everyone who plays the game has learnt that using the forums we can interact with the developers and have our ideas ACTUALLY listened too. Our suggestions often get reflected in game. What this means is that, unlike most games the player base of Marvel Heroes frequent their forums a lot, because that's where we get listened too.
I refute any claim that any developers have as much interaction with their community as much as Gazillion, the devs of Marvel Heroes do. I've played every game on this list, and I can say that confidently. They listen, talk and play with their player base more than any game I've ever played.

I don't think there sis anything wrong with advertising such contests on official sites and encourage people to vote. because really you can not force anyone to vote. if people are voting it means they really enjoy the game and want to show their support and love. if fans of other MMOS are not turning up in huge numbers well then it is their own loss.

We are in 2015 and i think its time to let go of puritan definition of RPG's and MMOS.
Voted:
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and MH 2015
I don't think there sis anything wrong with advertising such contests on official sites and encourage people to vote. because really you can not force anyone to vote. if people are voting it means they really enjoy the game and want to show their support and love. if fans of other MMOS are not turning up in huge numbers well then it is their own loss.
