EverQuest Next: The Daily Quest - What Do You Want From EQNext?

BillMurphyBillMurphy Former Managing EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 4,565

Daybreak games says it's still very much alive, and Terry Michaels is one of the devs still leading the charge, so what do YOU want to see from EQ Next in 2015? What will affirm your faith in the studio after its layoffs and convince you that EQN is on track?

Personally, and I talked a bit about last week, all I really want is more details and more gameplay video. If Landmark is the testbed for what EQN is to become, than I think we're more than ready to see the game in action as the devs are making it. Enough "we're transparent" talk without really showing anything. Give us classes, mechanics, dungeons, lore, and races. Give us how the rallying calls will play out, and more than just a quick "sort of" video at SOE Live.

If Daybreak is to continue the transparent style of SOE, then there's no better game to show that approach than EQ Next. We've heard plenty of talk, and the ideas behind the game are fantastic... but let's see some meat on those bones.  Let's see if EQN is one of the main reasons Columbus Nova would buy SOE, and don't make it just another teeny update either.

What about you, what would ease your worries about EQN under Daybreak Games?

I dont think day break has any interest in gamers. They want to make what money they can then move to the next project.

I think they will screw it all up. But we will see i guess.

There remains the suspicion this game will ultimately be axed.  Gamers are losing faith this will ever see the light of day.  With the recent sale of SOE this has strengthened this attitude. I agree, gameplay video is necessary to allay these fears. We need to see a quicker pace with this game.

We skipped Landmark Live this week, but we'll be back on Tuesday, Feb 17 at 10:00am PST to talk about the hotfix we'll be doing (hopefully) that afternoon and the following update information. Keep your eyes on the Landmark Live forum for any updates or changes.

We'll also be doing the Workshop Show next week, so join us on Thursday, Feb 19 at 11:00am PST where Rosie and company will be talking more about Qeynos and a ton of the things players have been building in that particular style.

otherwise I agree - we need to see some meat to the bones of EQN

Updating their damn website with info on classes and game world would be a good start. Something to keep me interested.

I'd love to see some dungeons and combat videos and less talk about how great its going to be. The action combat has me worried more than anything. I'm hoping for a true spiritual successor to Everquest/Vanguard and not GW2 with EQ lore.

I wish they would have shown something on group combat, how players could work together on killing things, or at least have gone into specifics on how players would work together in groups. All we ever got was talk about how their smart ai prevented trinity gameplay and how their combat was more like a moba, which is words that describes what they don't have, and not what they have.

I would like the graphics redone so it doesn't look cartoony. I want them closer to ESO.

What I want is likely nothing like what it's going to be, so nevermind I guess.

No matter how many times they say Landmark is the test bed for EQNext, everyone thinks they are not being transparent about the game.  It's obvious that they are just beginning to test combat for EQNext on the Landmark servers.  Grab a weapon and check it out.  I am not too happy with combat yet.  They need to tweak it a bit.

I think the best thing Daybreak could do to help establish their company's position with the community it to announce a target release date or cancel it completely.  Either way, a clear, concise announcement would do wonders to clean up a lot of the misinformation, miscommunications, speculation, and hype that have surrounded EQ:N from the very beginning.

If ever a company needs a clean slate, DGC does.  They have bought themselves a public relations mess.  If they made an announcement stating: 'Everything you've heard prior to Feb 15, 2015 is all now hogwash; new details about EQ:N will start Mar 1, 2015', it would do wonders to help them regain control of the user expectations about this product.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

    For it to be released.

I really want to see storybricks in action.  I mean, if I could say anything I want than I would say a hardcore PVE game centered around a huge world and group play mechanics, basically EQ1 with newer engine and some updated systems.  However since we're talking about the features already mentioned in EQ:N and not what a fan wants, I just wanna see storybricks.

I wanna see this AI where we could build Halas or any other city and then watch it destroyed and rebuild all through the AI.  Maybe even show us a battle and watch what the AI does before, during and afterwords to prove they have the AI in and working.  The graphics and armor are already in Landmark and I feel like that's good enough for now.  EQ:N's drawing power and innovation is in storybricks, IMO, show us that and maybe some of the rabble rousers will calm down about EQ:N = vaporware.

  • GolelornGolelorn Member RarePosts: 1,395
For it quickly to be announced its canceled, so all this hype for vaporware can vanish.
  • cprikcprik Member UncommonPosts: 38
Faster developement in general i guess. I wouldnt mind if they chilled abit with the voxels cause i think the kind of destructibility we have seen is just way too much. Change the combat system to tab would be great too. You know, just enough with the landmark bs noone even cares about except the 50 people playing it and actual info on EQN!

    Here's what I would like

    1. raids (should be one of MANY end-game routes for people to keep playing)

    2. more realistic character models (based off of EQ & EQ2 rather than WoW)

    3. complex playstyles with lots of options.

  • VichusSmithVichusSmith Member UncommonPosts: 67
Just simply living up to being that new game that finally gets us past the "WoW clone" talk.

There's nothing more gratifying than playing an MMO for free.

It really depends on if this new corporation has a hands off approach and just lets SOE continue on as planeed, or are they the type of corp that feels they know what is best and this si the way its gonna be?.....I have very low expectations for EQN anyway, but this move could outright end it before it even gets started.

Before the buyout, the biggest hope I had was that the game would actually come out one day.

    The buyout changed nothing.

Releasing it on the PS4 and letting us beta it on the PS4. They have mentioned it will release on the PS4 but I'm a believer after I see the miracles happen.

I would love to see them explain how they are going to handle the lore in the game now that they have fired the guy who wrote the lore.

What do I want from EQ Next in 2015? Two things:

    1) First half of 2015 - Take the game out of the "black box". Start talking, start showing... frequently.

    2) Second half of 2015 - Let us be founders. Those of us who founded for Landmark had a lot of fun in alpha. People may regret that support in light of recent events, but I for one would love to get back to doing what I love most about MMOs... posting on forums!

I want to see the permanent change in place. I'm also a huge fan of the emergent AI and the dynamic quest system.  Give me a world to explore and live in, just like the original EQ only better!  EQ is the only MMO to hold me for 5+ years. The next MMO to have me for any length of time was WOW at 1.5 years.

If they can deliver half of what they promised, I think we're in for a treat. They just have to release it AT THE RIGHT TIME! If they have to go into 2016, so be it! Don't release it broken!!! Remember Vanguard!!!
