We trot this topic out every now and again. Truly, it never seems to get old, does it? With today's passing of Sir Terry Pratchett, author of the Discworld series among others, it seems a fitting tribute to a great author who will be sorely missed.
So today's question is a short one: What book series would you like to see made into a game? The genre of game is irrelevant. It is the sharing of great literature that would appeal to fellow gamers that matters most.

Any graphical, audio, or gameplay restrictions not seen in other mmos but found in FFXIV can be blamed on one thing.

love to see a dune or a star wars mmo made right.
Playing: Smite, Marvel Heroes
Played: Nexus:Kingdom of the Winds, Everquest, DAoC, Everquest 2, WoW, Matrix Online, Vangaurd, SWG, DDO, EVE, Fallen Earth, LoTRo, CoX, Champions Online, WAR, Darkfall, Mortal Online, Guild Wars, Rift, Tera, Aion, AoC, Gods and Heroes, DCUO, FF14, TSW, SWTOR, GW2, Wildstar, ESO, ArcheAge
Waiting On: Nothing. Mmorpg's are dead.
Anyway I would say Raymond E Feist vast world's and races would be the number choice for me as far as an mmo goes.http://www.crydee.com/
I would love to see a Wheel of Time MMO. It is definitely a great fantasy series.
P.S.: Since the question says that the genre of game is irrelevant, I almost was going to go for a Hunger Games FPS with permadeath.... but then we already have DayZ so nvm.
Larry Niven: Tales of Known Space.
Michael Moorcock: Elric and Eternal Champion
Although not a series but a great setting: Blade Runner.

Kyleran: "Now there's the real trick, learning to accept and enjoy a game for what it offers rather than pass on what might be a great playing experience because it lacks a few features you prefer."
John Henry Newman: "A man would do nothing if he waited until he could do it so well that no one could find fault."
FreddyNoNose: "A good game needs no defense; a bad game has no defense." "Easily digested content is just as easily forgotten."
LacedOpium: "So the question that begs to be asked is, if you are not interested in the game mechanics that define the MMORPG genre, then why are you playing an MMORPG?"
Dune.
I'm still perplexed as why it hasn't even been tried. It's got factions, it's sci-fi, but a lot of the elements are from medieval times: Houses, Lords, Aristrocracy, a reliance on melee weaponry, etc.
Got tons of roles, even skill sets to fullfill: Bene Gesserit, Tleilaxu Face Dancers, Fremen
If it is a great game it could be based on any series or any book.
James Bond by Ian Fleming
The Rift War series by Raymond Feist
Anything set in Middle Earth...um wait...
Even The Stranger by Camus or War and Peace by Tolstoy could make awesome game worlds. It's just the game.
David Weber Honor Harrington series for space opera type game.
And Jim Butcher for 2, Harry Dresden series and the Codex Alera series.
A lot of others as well starting from way back...The Chronicles of Amber series from Roger Zelazny. As well as others already mentioned.
The same could be said of Tolkien, dying before the return of the king was finished, you also could tell the difference.

Eragon!
*ducks thrown fruit* I'm kidding, I'm kidding!
How about a Cthulhu mythos based MMO? I know TSW borrows from it quite heavily, but it's a modern setting and quite frankly the combat is awful. Plus, I'm talking one based in the time period of Lovecraft, the early 20th century, perhaps toward either the very end or right after the end of WWI.
Wheel of Time would be interesting, but I could only get about five books in before giving up. The plot meanders about too much, there's a lot of filler and nonsense, and far too many characters to follow (what I call "Wait, who was that guy again?" syndrome).
Sword of Truth, pretty much the same thing. Got through the third book and gave up. Plot was very predictable, and every time Richard needed to develop yet another ability, he did! Oh, and he was the first one in THREE THOUSAND YEARS to develop them all as well. His girlfriend was a more interesting character than him, and I found myself skimming through his parts just to see what Kahlan was doing, since characters with, you know, FLAWS and WEAKNESSES are actually fun to read about. The setting itself would be interesting, but the series just isn't very well written and is IMO extremely overrated.
Edit: Just thought of a couple settings: Thieves' World (low fantasy, much like Conan and The Witcher) would be a lot of fun. The other would be a little known tabletop RPG called Midnight, which is basically a 'what if Sauron had taken over the world' type scenario. Both very dark, low fantasy, gritty settings which could make an interesting MMO if handled right.
AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!
