Personally, I never thought I would see the day when I would announce this, but after 10 yrs of hopping from game to game, I believe I have finally found an MMO home. Honestly, I thought I was going to quit the genre before something like this would happen. I played the game at launch and it seemed like the same standard fare all the mmorpgs were offering, so i quit after a month like usual. However, this mmo did what others did not: it continued to grow and flourish after the first year.
When i came back 8 months later I expected the game to be on life support like how mmorpgs usually are after launch. I was surprised to find how much the game had expanded and been polished. I was surprised to see how much the devs continued to care for their fans (see fanfests and interviews) and listen to their concerns. After returning to the game since last summer, I feel like I am treated like a loyal customer and my future with them is in good hands. They are running an honest business, not a nickel and dime or a cash grab scam. The community is flourishing, new players are coming in droves, old guild members are coming back and staying for good, and on top of that there is a new expansion on the horizon. I'm so happy that all the content that has been put out has so much heart and thought put into it, even down to the stupid little pets (the flying ones that perch on your shoulder and when the puppy and kitten pet see each other they fight). Sure the game isnt without its faults (e.g. pvp and long queue times for dps), but for the first time I am OK with it, because not only do I know that the devs are working on it but they actually have a plan and pipeline for tackling the problem (instead of just empty promises) since thats how they've been handling all the issues thus far.
I'm amazed that this has actually happened to me and I'm just wondering if there are others that feel the same way too
Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)

Welcome home! Yeah I felt it to as soon as the first couple patches came in. I was like wait a second these devs are doing everything they are saying and they are posting attention to ask types of players not just raiders. Best MMO since swg imho
It's hilarious how so many people think ARR does nothing better than the competition.
I guess that's right if you have Stockholm's syndrome.
Did you get to 50 because the higher you get the faster combat gets. I have come across too many people that bitch about combat at level 13 and soloing. Combat is very different at 50 with a group.
I agree, They didnt just add Raid content they added a lot of content for non raiders which is very good. Good way to keep people happy make different content for different people not Raid content for everyone.
i have been playing FFXIV since 2.0 w/o unsubbing , .....since FFXI , or maybe wow tbc that this doesnt happen ^^
i cant wait for the expansion
I'm currently playing this and ESO and I am really trying to give this game a fair shot since so many ppl like it. I am playing a Gladiator cause I like tanking and I'm up to level 16. I have about 2-3 offensive abilities and it takes anywhere from 12-20 seconds to kill a regular mob at my level...Just seems really weak and slow. I'm gonna try a dungeon tonight and see if it gets better.
If people haven't realized that at this point they are beyond reason.
Low level gameplay doesn't become any more interesting or challenging just because you're pressing twice as many buttons. Battles will be piss easy regardless so whatever you're gaining out of pressing more buttons is 100% meaningless either way.
Giving so much emphasis to the newb content is just pathetic really. The game works excellently once the difficulty ramps up and does an adequate job before it.
yep
Wait until you get Rage of Halone at level 26. It will be 1 3 ability attack plus another 2 ability attack if you need MP back. You also will have abilities that you will throw in as you get higher level. I started on Siren back in dec with my wife because she was having issues going back to Leviathan so we moved. I am 44 with my Pali and she is a 44 WHM and I can tell you tanking speeds up the higher you go. This game will never be as fast as Action combat MMOs however I find those MMOs and even WOW now nothing but spammy gimmicks because in Parties using other key abilities at certain times will be so much more key than how fast you can put out a rotation.
Played at launch. Stopped after getting my WHM ultimate weapon through pugging - eat that Titan. And no, the combat wasn't that much better at 50. In fact I dare say ARR has the most simple combat among tab-target MMOs so far. The 2.5 second GCD wasn't that brutal if you needed that much time to think about your next cast but meh. The story is as cheesy as you can get for an MMO where you're destined to be the world savior # 2235456. Everything else is top-notch though. Especially that weather cycle, armor design and the landscape. If you don't mind its combat then yeah, an excellent game for sure.
I can't believe they didn't understand to restructure their website team with the 2.0 relaunch. Such a stupid oversight. The same also goes for their customer support and marketing team. They seriously felt that these departments are just fine. Well, at least they're no deal breakers to most.
I have an account from the relaunch, with a PS3 license. No subcription active anymore, don't have the PS3.
If I buy a PC download and get a key, plug it into the account system (Mog Station) and activate, will I still get my free month?
And will I be able to access the characters from the existing account?
Yes, I know I could ask their support and FAQ and such, but I've always found this community to have better answers - and you get them faster!
I think you would find that almost every game gets polished after launch. That's just the way it is (Do I think that's right? no, but it is a reality of recent releases). I wont get into my reasons for quitting FFXIV because it wouldn't be conducive to this discussion. But to hop around MMORPGs because they aren't fully fleshed out in the first month is a bit too impatient for this genre imo.
The ones that have held my attention long term all had rough starts, but sticking with it reaped its rewards. I just looked at the basic structure of the games and thought to myself, if the devs can fix bugs, the game will end up being where I want to be. If it is something that I don't like at the very basic structural level of gameplay, I don't stick around because that's just not the game they made.

Sounds like you dont like Tab Target. Thats not a problem there are other games out there for you. Also the Combat is close to how Vanilla WOW was or event TBC where players used a handful of spells vs today mashing buttons endlessly to maximize DPS. When I was playing on my Bard at level 50 I had to know when you use my songs to best help out the group and if I was mashing buttons just to maximize my DPS I would never use my Songs. With a 2.5 second CD I can switch songs before my next attack or stop singing so I stop using MP along with lowering my damage by 20%.
With My Pali in that 2.5 second GDC I can pop damage mitigation abilities. Or I can switch from shield oath to sword oath for more damage then switch back. Some people focus ONLY on the attack abilities and not the larger picture.
Yes if you were a PC3 player and Buy another copy PS4 or PC you will get another Free month. Back when I Pre-ordered ARR when my wife got into game she had the PS3 and PC versions and got Free months with both. PLUS a friend of mine went from PS3 to PC and got a free month. Now if you do the PS4 upgrade without buying a new version I dont think that will give you a free month.
Also you will get full access to old characters. When I came back I didnt want to get back into an old character because my wife was having trouble with hers so we started a new on Siren.
if u put it on your OLD account , dont think u get a free month , since u got one already , u are just buying access to the game on PC with that key, but no 100% sure about that , google it because im fairly sure that is common (ps3 ppl that jumped to ps4 dont got free month )
however if u buy it and start a new account yeah free month
No he will get a free month. When my Wife and I started ARR she bought both the PS3 and PC versions and got 2 months free. A friend of mine also went from PS3 to PC Bought both and got free months for both.
Thanks Dan!
For $20, might give this one another go.
I really enjoyed it, but I was playing on PS3 after doing the beta on PC.
But then I ended up trading in my PS3 towards my shiny new XB1 - which my ONLY regret in doing so is losing FFXIV as it's only for PS3/PS4/PC.
Come on Microsoft, you're pushing PC/console play with Windows 10, why not, in this one case (like you did with FFXI!) allow us XB1 folks to play with our PC and Playstation friends in FFXIV?!
i dont like the global cooldown in FFXIV but TERAs combat is the last thing i want to ever try again so yeah......
That is just personal preference.
Yes it is. Just like I no longer do action combat because I just dont process mash buttons as fast as possible while aiming at target as well as I use to. So its all personal preference. I just hate when people bash it because they dont like it. Its like bashing Vanilla Ice cream when you like Mint Ice cream. Its not that one is better than the other its you like one better than the other.
