Today’s column is a list geared toward you, the returning player who might be stepping back into what seems like familiar territory only to land in a city and find yourself at the mercy of the guards within the first five minutes. Or not. But for those returning to ESO, here are a few quick things to keep in mind.

Sounds like she was winging it.
My first quest after logging back in for the first time in 2 months...the Justice System dealt me a hard blow right in the face! It was a quest to challenge some people to a fight, in the middle of a moderately populated village. The fight started and I threw out a Reflective Light (ranged Templar spell that splits and hits up to 3 targets). It split and hit my target and two innocent bystanders. By the time I realized what was going on, I was dead before I could finish shouting "Oh sh...."
There is an option to not hit innocents. Without that on this will happen too often lol.
I had the same thing happen to me before I figured that out.
Haha, awesome! Thanks for the tip =D
I went back yesterday, and very pleased I did. All the gripes I had have been corrected, and zero monthly cost makes this a game I'm going to keep on playing for a hundred hours or more.
Its worth a second look.
How does ESO compare? What should I know about it? Are the devs more responsive than a vegetable, I mean the anet devs? Not that it would be hard, but what I am asking is do they listen and interact with the player base?
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
Prevent attacking innocents is the last item under Gameplay and you might want to turn off 'Auto loot stolen items' which is under Items.
So far hasn't been a problem for me as I learned my lesson about stealing by hitting the wrong key at the wrong time from playing Skyrim. But if your doing something it is real easy to fire off your weapon and hit or kill something. It is funny seeing players getting killed by guards all the time.
I also notice returning to the starter island isn't really given any special notice. It's treated like a regular quest and is easy for new players to miss.

It might be changed... after all, all MMO's before ESO removed stuff like this over time as being unwanted features
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
I was in beta and early access. I remember when the intro was longer with more areas in it. I remember when players were forced to travel through the starter islands first, in order to get to mainland. And then the complaining started about wanting to be able to be on the mainland and go anywhere (which you still can't really do, not if you want to survive), and whining about the intro being too long (nevermind you only have to go through it once per character). And Zenimax caved to the will of the minority. They've broken their intro story and don't seem to have any interest in changing it. I mean, why would the people who saved you (who need your help) decide to take you all the way to mainland, instead of the first starter island? It really doesn't make sense. I hated that they changed all of that before launch and even sent e-mails and made forum posts about it, as did some others. But they didn't listen. All of that work done by their employees to flesh out those islands are lost to some players who never see them. It's a waste. But, I'm not in charge. I guess it's just not a big enough deal to worry about.
Why would they need to change it? It's completely optional. Don't want it in your experience, don't steal, and turn off the ability to damage NPCs.

One of the first things ZoS did after launch was nerf the first Fighter's Guild boss, Doshia. The only thing they've done since is nerf, nerf, nerf, and more nerf. Then they add a broken zone, Craglorn. Add timed raids which were exploitable to get a better time without fighting everything. It took them 2 updates to add the broken zone, Craglorn.
All ZoS has done since launch is tweak the game so they have a smooth console launch.
As PC player, I resent being a beta tester for the past year for the console. They're holding back content until after the console release in June. If they release anything in July, it will be 10 months since they added anything more than 1 vet dungeon. 1/3 of a zone isn't very much in my opinion. They will demo the same content at Conventions this year that they demo'ed last year and the game is live not in development.
SW:TOR had a new expansion pack in December which has as much content as ESO added all year minus one raid. But I'm fairly sure the new raids in SW:TOR take longer than 30 minutes to complete. I can do two raids in ESO in 30 minutes.
It will be extremely hard if not impossible for Bethesda to keep this game going past today since they are not the ones who developed or run it. Zenimax Online is the developer who worked on this game. Bethesda is only the publisher.
Nitpicking, it's the same company, just different branches. What's more it's the publisher and not the developer that usually makes those decisions.
The funny thing was you could go directly to the main land, grind and farm dungeons to level, get good gear, and sell the rest for gold. Don't feel like fighting just jump on your horse and run through the zones to find and mark wayshrines in advance. That got you 3 levels just for exploration. Or take your level 12 character on a quest to become a vampire, it was a level 35ish quest but was doable with a low level character and a bow.
Stop with nerf hammer, add player created content and I think they have something.
Back on topic. I'm going to create a thief killer just to play around with the justice system.

I'd really like to know if the stupid phasing system is removed or fixed? Often my wife and I would be questing and suddenly she'd become just an invisible marker unable to interact with me or my quests. Can we now group up properly and help each other on different quests parts or is it still the worst grouping system ever?
Might come back to see if that is fixed, but it's a dealbreaker for us...
Overall the justice system is fun, but the fact that it degrades over time is kind of a bummer. If i go kill 4 guards, will the towns people simply forget that I was killing guards 2 hours later? The same goes for stealing everything from their home.
In my opinion your bounty shouldn't degrade ever. The only way to get rid of it would be to be killed, or pay a fence to reduce it. When / if you are killed by a guard, there should be some type of penalty before your bounty is wiped clean. Jail time, menial labor, what ever... This adds some real element of danger to the justice system.
As it is right now, if I get caught stealing, I can log out or AFK for 30 min and wait for my bounty to simply disappear.
Some they removed, but some is the same. If you chose different options during story / quest events, you get put into different phases. So you both need to be on the same part of the story, and make the same choices.
IMO it makes sense, I like that my wife and I have to discuss a choice before making it, if we wish to remain on the same path during a quest....

You mean, unwanted feathers.
