I think the problem is the "and left" part. It would have been much smarter for Trion to have given this to everyone who had spend over the particular amount. Now you leave those who have spent a lot and are still subscribed feeling like they made a very big mistake by not cancelling. That is not a good place to leave your best customers.

This is correct. Trion only wants whales to come back to its game, not you other so-called players who are smart enough not to drop $500 into a video game.

Several people pointed this out in the forums, but in a more pessimistic look on it.
Basically, Trion's giving all these gifts to "unloyal quitters", thereby pissing off all the "loyal" players, but these types of gifts aren't the type of gifts (land) that will get most of the unloyal quitters to come back and stay in the first place.
So basically Trion's pissing off the "loyal" players AND not going to get many returning "unloyal quitters" at the same time! Well, that's the theory at least.

this is believable but untrue. it is simply not how it went down. the gift dispensation was utterly random and then a few people were thrown some biscuits because they complained to the right dev during live chat.
How dare you question this man. He has insider knowledge of every decision that Trion makes and the reasons behind it all. You see, he Is Scott Hartman in disguise!!!!

As a patron, I seem to recall getting a ton of gifts which those that quit didn't... Divine Gifts! I know it has been a long two weeks since these were given but did you all stop long enough to think of the value of the total of the divine gift event far, far exceeds what was given in the gift pack?!
No surprise though from a playerbase of self entitled children. Selective memory goes hand in hand with the me, me, me generation.
SORRY TRION CAVED!
Right... It is the playerbase that is the problem. Trion has absolutely no ownership of any issues with the game. Thanks for clearing that up for us.

What's the value on the dolphin? I was under the impression that one couldn't be given because players didn't know the rates, although apparently several forum posters mentioned that Trion themselves explicitly stated the dolphin is supposed to on-average take hundreds of dollars of RNG boxes to get and that's intentional.

Maybe if the player base decided to "choose their battles" better and didn't make EVERY issue a hill to die on, I would have sympathy. From watching this same playerbase since release, all I hear is bitch bitch bitch no matter how large or small the issue. So in my world there is no credibility left for them, sorry.
Being able to play this unique, deep, feature rich game is enough reward for me.
The RNG boxes are crazy low drop rates and require real money to open.
I got the starlit wings from one of the boxes and it felt like I won the lotto, super rare cosmetic only available that way (or so they at the time said) it is a real kick in the teeth that this is now free to every patron who stopped playing.
If you are going to put a cash shop in your game and you want longevity and financial support from your player base you have to be consistent, not expecting P2W but I paid for a cosmetic item because it was rare (more fool me), understood the process and bam, wrong, just wrong, unsubscribed.

The playerbase doesn't have steelwind's sympathy. That's a shame.

took me 9 archeum boxes to get one so not sure on that logic
But if the dolphin is purely cosmetic, wouldn't that be a kerfluffle?
It's a friggin' dolphin. Dolphins are awesome. Awesome enough that people spend hundreds of dollars trying to get one (as intended and informed by Trion, who told them it would on average take hundreds of dollars. At least, that's what some forum posters say. I wasn't there). Whether it's purely cosmetic or not, it's worthy of a kerfluffle.

I'm not really seeing how you getting one within 9 boxes disproves Trion's statement. An average is just that. An AVERAGE. It actually wouldn't be an average if there weren't lucky people and unlucky people within it (instead, it'd be a hardset number, obviously).
everyone got their theory which is still funny fact is i never spent a dime in this game, ive been playing for like 3months, i got around 20 apex from players and the auction house, they all got paid with gold and i did earn every gold i got and i still got the package and i got the archeum package also.
As a big thank you for your patronage of ArcheAge, we’ve added a free in-game gift to your account#

Although you didn't spend any money, that doesn't mean that TRION realizes you didn't spend any money. They possibly simply see you applying APEX to your account and think you gave them money. And then you like... won a random draw lotto or something so they gave you a dolphin while lots of other... um, "nonloyal quitters who paid something in the past" (or whatever) did not.
this could be a possibility, but too many peoples make their own conclusion way too quick based on nothing but speculation. This not about being wrong or right dont get me wrong, but ppl which claim we got those packages because we spent atleast 500$ in the game are just delusional...
I did play the first 3 months and quit like many others, i dont even play anymore and not going to for specific reasons, im not defending trion in any way with this post, but please, can peoples stop with their own theory based on no actual fact and just move on like i did.

Oooooh, yea, I see what you're saying.
Yea, it appears that DMKano is in error. General evidence from the various forum posts I've read seems to imply that whoever got a dolphin was completely at random (as long as they hadn't played the game in a long time, of course).

The playerbase has every right to complain about how poorly this game has been handled. Maybe if Trion and XL weren't a bunch of drunken circus clowns, this game might have had potential, but instead we got a textbook example of how NOT to make a Sandbox MMO.
You go ahead and enjoy the game. At this rate, it won't be around for much longer, and your attitude is not helping matters.

Trion honestly just needs to drop this title, add flight to Rift and focus solely on rift otherwise as a company they are gonna get blown out this year to the competition
ArcheAge is the perfect example of a fantastic game destroyed by terrible decisions.
I have absolutely no respect for Trion and their P2W axiom. Won't look at another game by these guys...
Not been around much? there more example then Arche Age, people jumped on the hyped, then waiting, they should get burn and learn don't buy a game on a hype, and understand what people are getting them self in too. Look at me I don't respect blizzard after there CM long time ago was like go jump off a ship, no the same wording that piss me off after blizzard did noting about it, after that I lost all respect, learning from that don't trust any company just enjoy what one enjoys and avoid danger.
