I went from regular visits to wave 13 to 'cant hit shit', and now I am expected to purchase gimbals so I can regain 'some' of what I've lost? BS!!

You do not have to pay any real world money.
Backers just got 5000 REC in game virtual currency for free to try out the new equipment. You can get more just by playtesting.
Important note ... if you use gimbal mounts, you can only use a weapon one size smaller than the size of the hardpoint. So if you are a better pilot that does not need gimbal mounts, you pack more of a punch.
Have fun
Yeah, with 5000 you can;t even buy one weapon mount.
Is more like 24$ for a ship but i guess is not that much.
....but not pay to win.
The only kickstarter I regret backing so far.
Indeed.
There's nothing to win, because we're still nearly a year away from there being any actual game.
There's nothing to pay, because you can earn everything online without using cash.
Don't blame CIG if you're addicted to crowdfunding game development projects (like I am). Just stop giving them money. Star Citizen will still be released, and afterwards you can judge it by the standards of an actual game at that time.
Ripoff.
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar
Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D
I get the impression that this is a machiavellian human engineering research project. KS was just the beginning. Now they want to see just how much else they can get away with.
You can bet the whole industry is watching. They already have one imitator selling houses... more will come.

What are you talking about ?

Gimbal Mounts start at 500 REC. SHIPS start at 2000 REC ..... and you got 5000 REC for free.
Have fun
Nice one, missed the new currency, thanks for the hint, it saved me some bucks.
EDIT: Rec is just for renting so yeah you will have the gear for couple days only.
You were given the REC for backing the game, which was certainly not free in any way.
Insert another coin and try again.
Worthless to whom? Some people actually have jobs that pay them money with which they can spend on things they deem worthwhile. Crazy concept I know.
He had previously, actually in the portion you quoted, stated that "Backers just got 5000 REC......". It is free in that you don't have to spend any extra money to get it. The "Backers" portion meant that he was talking about people who had already bought the game. Context.
Free or not , they are to rent the equipment for couple of days.
If you want to own the equipment you have to use RL $$.
Altough spending lke 50$ to fit the ship is not the end of the world

Or you could wait until the PU is released and buy the equipment with in game currency. The only money you must spend is the purchase price of the game.
Just to clarify because there's so much misinformation being thrown around this thread, you are able to rent an item in the store with REC for 7 days. Any day you log into the game, you use up one 24 hour period (1 day). If you don't log in for a month after buying the weapon, you will still be able to use it for 7 days, but each day only activates when you log in that day.
Since you make REC by playing the game, renting a weapon and playing the game for 7 days is going to make you more REC than you paid for your weapon. When the time expires, you can rent the weapon again since you've got the REC, or try a different gun. You can try every single gun this way, going through all of them and making REC, and then finally settling on one you like, and just keep renting that one. You don't need to pay real money to try all the guns and then keep renewing the ones you like.
Wasn't impressed with the whole rec thing, the game is ina testing phase so all these things should be offered free of use for testing purposes but I do recall some in the community cry for it.
They wanted some kind of earning for their play time in "AC" which is suppose to be a simulation trainer (in the game)so they came up with REC. From what I did read about it REC is something you can earn by playing AC.
IS this not how it is? I was under the impression REC is just good in AC and useless in the verse.
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
Yes, REC is only used and earned in AC. It does not transfer, the REC or the equipment earned from it, to the PU. Another purpose of REC was to encourage more people to spend more time playing AC for testing purposes. It gives some type of purpose and progression to playing AC.
And tell me, what happens when you release to everyone? Starter ships won't get flown. Weapons that are best for digfighting, won't get used.
What´s so hard to understand, it is all written down. Technically, Arena Commander is a game within the game, it´s the Wing Commander simulator booth you had in previous Wing Commander games in the 90ies. So in every Wing Commander title you as your character were already playing a game, within the game.
The advanced sim game "Arena Commander" is it´s own game within the whole wrapper "Star Citizen", and Arena Commander (made by Oriiginal Systems, wink wink) has microtransaction currency you earn (REC) and you can buy anything with it, it´s cheap but it´s only a rent for a certain amount of time. Your character buys stuff with his REC at EA which is a digital storefront (wink wink), EA is of course Electronic Access.
The FPS module that is coming is the same "game within the game" concept, it will be called "Star Marine". You can probably enter the simpod with your character, then play as your character´s game character in a first person shooter simulation.
So of course REC is useless in the verse, it´s just an overpriced game currency from EA. The real verse currency is UEC.
It´s a highly amusing concept, basically you are now playing Wing Commander (Arena Commander) as game within the game Star Citizen, made by Orignal Systems (Origin) with currency sold by EA ( Electronic Access).
lol that was happening before the REC patch because you are just canon fodder to others. Now with the REC patch they are only do it so that they don't have to suffer and be unable to compete due to the P2W system that CIG created.
Well done for trying to explain to people but as you can probably guess it's going to go right over their heads if the amount of rubbish posted on these forums about this game is anything to go by.
Sure , if you don;r mind beeing owned by pretty much anything untill the game is out ie 2 years at best.
Or .. you know ... you could become a better pilot/gunner ;-)
Have fun
