SWG the insider....

chaintmchaintm Member UncommonPosts: 953

I can't say who what etc, but I can tell you the scoop, you pre-gn guys are gona love this if you haven't heard it yet.

From a VERY reliable connection the following took place in the last month...

Senior executives at Sony Online flew to home location of SWG. These individual were upset at the outcome of SWG and were going there to fix the problem first hand. From what I am told, with lucas arts not renewing their starwars contract , the numbers deeply took dive on subscribers. They went to their sub company location to talk to those who are to blame and clear up the situation.

The word now is, the engine is being talked about going to another outfit all together (different company) who will revert it back to it's pre-gen versions and take it over from there. No conformation as a final word, but the feeling is this will happen. Apx all but 3 will loose their positions at sony for the nightmare and if you ask me, thats a good thing.

As of this writing my connection feels that Sony Online as a whole has taken a hit in every genre. His personal thought (I asked for a quote)...

"Sadly , the upper management really didn't understand what gamers are, they had no clue about the industry, but were only looking at the numbers. This is the reason we are were we are currently. I was honored at one time to be part of the SOE team, almost felt like a celebrity. Now when people ask what I do? I tell them I am a developer in the gaming industry and not that I work for Sony Online Entertainment. I am ashamed at my affiliation at this point".

While this writer (me) feels for said employee, it just goes to show what the mind-set we all knew was going on at sony. For years we openly joked about the juggernaut and their corporate ways. Will EA follow the same boat? Allot of us think so, maybe some can take a lesson that was learned a long time ago by many well to do development houses. "your customers are your fans or your worst enemies, treat them right and you will have a fan for life, treat them wrong and you will be banished" This writer personally says "good riddance to old garbage". Since year 2 of Sony Online's take over of EQ. I have seen nothing but corporate greed in SOE. While it would be good to see a large company to succeed in gaming, for some reason when a company gets so large. They decide to hire people who have no clue other then the numbers. While the numbers are the driving point of any corporation, the bottom line is effected by those who support them. SOE missed the ball, how many more companies will till one shines threw the dark midst?

Ps. there are allot more details, such as I was told,  there was a big meeting to find out "who was to blame" turns out, no one ofcourse. So in this , my source beleives all but 3 will remain with SOE. Minor details , I Know you guys want to know all of this stuff, but I don't want to post stuff I don't remember 100%, but the post above gives you at least info that something is being done about it. It is posted here as a rumor because (for obvious reasons) my source is a source does not want to be named, but here it is a rumor, take it or leave it, but I can say take it as it IS happening. Good news, what comes of it no one will know for certain yet, but something at least is in the works and maybe Lucas will revert this game to another company to do it right.

Thats awesome Chaintm. I have never played the game but I would love to try it out as it was before. I bet those 3 employees hated the idea of the "upgrade" but obiviously had to do it for their job.

I don't think it would be very hard to get a classic server up. If they were smart they would have saved all the coding or whatever, right?

Woah.. i seriously hope this is true :P
Old SWG pre-cu.. hmm, that was nice back then.. it really was.

It'd be incredible to have pre-CU SWG back. It was the only time I really loved an MMO. I'd be willing to forgive them if they just brought it back.

Yea...I would love to go back to SWG if they put it all back as it used to be!

Man, I better just keep my tin foil hat on today. Yet another "rumor" from a reliable source. This is starting to get entertaining to see what they are gonna claim next.

Usually, i would dismiss such rumours as simple hoaxes but this bit really does make it more believable. It's the case with so many companies these days and it makes me laugh, all the business people see is cash signs above our heads and their greed makes them lose the plot.

hmmm, i actually like the NGE, gave people who didnt have much time to play actually become a jedi in the game instead of all the time it took before...
  • losdog57losdog57 Member Posts: 3
SWG was my first MMORPG and i was hooked for 2 years until the NGE update. I would be the first one back if they reverted back pre-NGE.  However, I was under the impression that one of the main reasons for changing the game in the first place was to make  it more console friendly for a possible xbox live version.  Changing the game back may not make sense for them if a console conversion was in the works but form an ex-SWG release veteran it makes perfect sense. I have a friend still trying to play who says finding a lot of people online is very hard.

As i've said multiple times, if they went back to pre-CU I would b back with both of my accounts. SOE pissed me off harcore with the original CU. IMO the NGE was better than the CU but they both paled in comparisson to the original game. I played the original for over a year and I would love to go back to it.

THESE THREADS ARE REALLY CRUEL. I wish people would stop with the rumor threads. As much as I want them to be true, they are misleading to older players and potential players. If you really have inside info, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF! All this does is give unsubstantiated hope to people that should just let this game go and scare potential players away. I know the author says it's just a rumor and take it or not but anyone who has been involved with this game WANTS it to be true. Please, I implore you, stop with these rumor threads. They are cruel and unusual punishment to people who have lost a great game.

I believe you are the only person who thinks this way... I enjoy hearing this kind of stuff and I know the majority of other people think this way too, otherwise this "Rumor Mill" forum wouldn't exist

I very much disagree with you, the rumor pages are very good! For without them, I wouldn't know to look out for SWG. I am Snow-Cow from Anahazi. Heh if any of you played anahazi it isn't unlikely you either played or heard of me (if you recall the cherry blossem problems). I am very hopeful for this, which is good. If I hadn't heard of this it would be likely I wouldn't know if this did come true. I love the old SWG and HATE the new SWG. The game was fun. Now it is crap.........

Is it gonna be run by the same company the bent you over and screwed you.......YES

Is it gonna still have L.A. make suggestions on how to improve the game ....... YES

Is the game still going to be in a beta unfinished state almost 3 years on from its launch ..... YES

Will SOE continue to release pointless publishes and crappy expansions ..... YES

Are you stupid enough to go back to all that ..... NO

Do you like to pay to get shat on .... NO

Now if you answer yes to the last 2 then boy you need help, far as i can see the damage is done for me SOE are just a waste of space in the industry run by a poor second hand car sales man who needs a reality check.

It would be nice to go back to the original game minus Jedi. Once Jedi came out the game started a downward spiral it never recovered from. It has such potential, just never reached it.

I completey absolutely 100% agree with you on that. I know Jedi were always going to be in the game which is fine but they should have never been made into a playable character class!! All jedi should have been NPCs. IMHO, if you wanted to play a Jedi, you should be playing KOTOR or something else. SWG was a game that dealt with what the rest of the universe was doing (i.e. Architects, Weaponsmiths, Creature Handlers, Entertainers, Doctors....). It was the day to day life of the SW universe outside of the Jedi landscape. And that is the reason I loved the game so much. Bringing in the jedi class was like a garrot around my wookie's neck. The bugs that were well documented but never ever addressed was the final nail in the coffin for my subscription.

    I would consider returning if:

    1) A company besides SOE, EA or LA would be the controlling company

    2) Jedi is removed as a playable class

    3) Return things the way they were pre-CU and add content (not changes) from that point on.

I absolutely agree with you 100% there...even if the game was rolled back it would not be the same no matter what...nothing would make me go back to that game now...SOE almost ruined online gaming for me...now I realize I will just stay away from SOE owned/operated games and enjoy all of the other great games that are offered...If I sniff SOE on any game I will be done...I believe they should kill SWG now and sell the rights to someone else who knows how to run a game...I am sure the Spacetime guys would love a crack at it...

/sprouts coffee all over the keyboard!!! ughrrr

Eh, I'm sure you just had a spasm in your fingers and that horrible sentence was just a mistake, right? Right?

In the vision that is SW a jedi is the pinnacle of achievement. We know the SW galaxy is densely populated and sports many worlds, yet there aren't many jedi - even when things were going their way they were never numerous. You got a galaxy of billions of sentient beings, but only few jedi. Hmm, I wonder why. Ah!image Jedi aren't supossed to be easily accessible!

Some say that even implementing the jedi as a playable class was a mistake from the get go. I'm not sure. From a playerview ( my view) having that carrot means just having more incentive to play, although I never powerplayed to make jedi. From a coporate view, having that carrot means alot of people will keep playing. In my ideal SWG pre-CU+NGE, jedi are far and few between - and I do mean few as in 1/500 players attain jedi rank. They haven't achieved this through the same quest/grind/approach, the way of becoming a jedi should be varied.

I would happily give up my chance of becoming jedi if a new SWG implemented harsh jedi restrictions. Seeing or suspecting someone of being jedi as he lurks in the corner of Bestine cantina should've been awe-inspiring - talk of the day. These days, playing a jedi is what 12yr olds do when they're waiting for WoW to load. image

Ive been a SWG player since beta and I finally cancelled my account in FEB.  I tried the NGE but I couldnt deal with the half-ass FPS RPG hybrid it had become.  It has neither the good things of an RPG or FPS.

I have felt the same way all of you have about Jedi from the first wave of HOLOGRINDING.  The original plans for the jedi system were ambitious but never came to fruition.  Now, all the NGE respec Jedi and the newb starter profession jedi make the game even more unbareable.  The only good thing that ever came of the Jedi system were Jedi permadeath and Bounties for visibility.  Two things that have been removed for sometime now.

SWG is a big joke and I wish it would have met its potential but I have realized that it will never happen.  Hopefully, whoever makes SWG2  (please dont be SOE)  will do it right.  If they want to make jedi playable, use a different time period, not the original trilogy.  NJO or KOTR or even Clone Wars would be cool.  The game is a disgrace to MMO player and SW fans alike.
