A very nice game. It lacks a bit on the interaction side.
Procedural Generation produces great stuff at first look, but you soon see the patterns and the repetition.
have fun
Will that not be a similar problem for Star Citizen though? They're talking about 100+ planets with 4 landing areas per planet.
I can't imagine them having the time to hand craft 400+ totally individual landing areas, all laid out differently and all looking different. Even handcrafted, at some point you're going to see the repitiion of design (applies to all games obviously not just SC).
if this game becomes the second coming the only thing we will see happening is every company out there will start selling concepts of future in game items for $400+
We dont want that to become the norm, do we?
/thread
Well if like you say it gives us ''the second coming'' of games, then I wouldn't mind if they want to sell assets for 400$ to fund the making of it.
The rich pay to make good games that anybody can play, nobody looses.

It's not as simple as that. The company is evolving their development on the basis that people are interested in buying in-game assets. People who aren't interested will be affected by this.
It affects the game that's going be produced in a negative way (they already have more than enough money to make their dream game).

The current plans are :
The first landing zones are all handcrafted. No procedural generation. That applies to all the landing zones available at launch.
They DO create a library of objects at the moment, so any Star Citizen level designer (and later the player modders) can use those objects for their own levels. The object library does NOT ONLY include the grafical assets, but also all ways you can interact with an object e.g. if you can hack that ship hatch (and the corresponding animations linked to that interaction).
Later the hundreds of extra landing zones currently planned will be heavily using procedural generation, but will all be given a handcrafted once over before they are released.
Even later - when free landing across a planet will be enabled - all the rest of the area will be filled with purely procedural generated content. This especially applies to newly discovered planets ... discovered through exploration and not in the list of currently known planets. The procedural generation routines developed from the 41 M$ Stretch Goal "Procedural Generation R&D" are especially intended for that later phase.
"Procedural Generation R&D Team – This stretch goal will allocate funding for Cloud Imperium to develop procedural generation technology for future iterations of Star Citizen. Advanced procedural generation will be necessary for creating entire planets worth of exploration and development content. A special strike team of procedural generation-oriented developers will be assembled to make this technology a reality."
So .... for the currently announced landing sites it should have a different feeling, less PGed. Kinda like reality ... where in principle e.g. one airport is somewhat similar to another airport. But for the as yet unannounced, newly discovered planets ... there Star Citizen will have the same "problem" as NoMansSky or Elite:Dangerous .... repetition from PG that shows quickly (and no ... only changing colors does not a new world make ... )
So clearly you were making up things to suit your argument and when called out
I cannot take anyone seriously that asks me for proof from the year 2020 .....
I said its verifyable data. I did not say NOW ... when talking about Star Citizen marketing being a topic for economic classes discussing crowdfunding in the future. Its a given that the most successful crowdfunding campaign EVER, ANY GENRE will be discussed as an example business case ... a campaign that made it into the Guiness Book of Records because of its success.
Have fun
and I cant take anyone seriously who tells others to post verifyable facts and then goes on to say how this game will be a textbook case in universities for years to come when they have no way of proving that.
Guess its a good thing I never took you seriously to start with.

getting 78 million $ in crowdfunding sounds like a textbook case to me.
Altough the suit elites won´t like losing control, they are control freaks but dinosaurs who will soon be obsolete. I like that thought!

Sure getting 78 million sounds like a textbook case but I was asking for proof since he asked the same of others. I have no problem admitting I am wrong when I am but I need to see facts first :P
Publishers wont go the way of the dodo and if SC does tank as a game then prepare to have indie games set back years as they struggle to regain trust.

If you want to see facts from 2020 first ...
better start inventing a time machine.
Or learn the value of patience.
Have fun
I chose the 2020 date to prove a point which was that you have no way to prove today that what you said is true about it being a textbook case in universities for years to come. That was pure speculation on your part like most of the rest of the post in question. My other point is don't make bold statements that you can't back up.
