As the title with the title, Would you play any of the Vanilla mmos more so than the current ones or above the latest mmos ? And sure fix anything broken or anything that is needed to be playable.
I know this would open up my love for mmos again. It's not a nostalgia thing BUT more of a how mmo's should be thing for me.

Because, in order to stay Vanilla, they can't update or add anything at all. Can't imagine why people actually want this.
Who is saying they cant fix stuff ??...... Why do people have this fixed in there heads ?

If they fix stuff or add content, it would not be 'Vanilla' anymore, and it's very easy to implement 'fixes' and then go waaaay overboard with that.

You raise a good point, most people really don't want a game to return as launched, rather they want it as it was during what they consider it's peak to have been. Getting people to all agree when that actually was is a very debatable point.
For DAOC, the people who ran the shard I was on felt it was shortly after the SI expansion launched, and definitely before TOA and the New Frontiers.

You seriously don't get it?
It's often extremely hard to determine what's broken or what's not, because that's often a matter of opinions. One of the best examples of such, especially in games with PvP, is character adjustments, ie changes to combat mechanics. You may for example think that a class is overpowered, and fixing that will make those playing this class feel they broke it.
This isn't just about fixing obvious bugs, ie broken quests, etc. The world isn't just black and white.

Vanilla Dark Age of Camelot for sure.
I'd play the alpha version of LotRO when it was a sandbox game called Middle Earth Online, not the boring quest grindy solo centric WoW clone it was at launch.

I am currently playing on one of those unmentionables solely BECAUSE Blizzard refuses to offer progression and/or classic servers. If they did, I'd be paying them for that opportunity.
I don't know about 20 servers, but I do know that those unmentionables out there have healthy thriving populations...and many people don't even know what I'm talking about when I mention them.
NoMost of the additions and changes over the years have made the games better (if you are not obsessed with nostalgia that is).Especially WoW. Vanilla WoW was terrible.I could write a book detailing all of the problems WoW has back the early days and not include any of the bugs or glitches.
I would say it depends on an MMO as well but also depends on what we call Vanilla.
I think too many are over stating vanilla because Beta could be considered vanilla but not the final accepted state of the game.The final accepted state of the game almost always does not come on release day and that is what the OP is basically saying.
A game that falls directly under the scope of this question is FFXI.
What i and MOST would likely consider VANILLA is up to level 75,even though the game released as a max level 50.
NOTHING really changed from 50>75 except more content ,so it would or could still be considered in it's vanilla state.
Once the game went beyond 75 they changed the game completely.IMO it was all a plan to change the game for the mere greed of sales on the upcoming expansions.The first wave of expansions was pathetic sort of what SOE is doing right now with EQ2,just VERY small add ons.
You see the whole CHANGE from vanilla began because so many players were not at the stage to move forward and buy the newest stuff they were selling,so they needed to make sure players could attain everything faster to get to the point of a must have to continue advancement.The state of the game eventually became so lame that players would get max level in a very short time span of 1/2/3 days,NEVER the intent by original design but simply to make sure players kept buying the next expansion.
I don't think my statements are even to be questioned as MANY players left the game when these changes became too much to fathom.The game was once thriving onward 500k+ to perhaps even a million players in a time when NO GAME had such numbers then dwindled down to around 300 then to 150k.SO less than 50% remained that is never a good sign and one the developer SHOULD have taken notice of but GREED always blinds one eyes.

You guys are talking about two different things.
He is solely talking about bugs and you are talking about game adjustments/balancing, etc.
So if there was a game where they "just fixed bugs" and didn't alter anything, left classes where they were at launch, then I believe that is what he is talking about.

Progression Servers usually begin at vanilla/launch (or a set starting point) and will progress over time, usually by a set of rules (community vote, certain requirements met, time passed) from one patch/expansion to the next.
Without defining what "Vanilla" is, this discussion will just degrade into an argument over what Vanilla means. Since we're not defining that for this question, and just pipedreaming:
I'd play any CoH pre-MA (I14, I believe).
I'd play a pre-hologrind SWG if game features were fixed and classes got balanced somewhat well.
I'd play pre-LOTRO Middle Earth Online, which was what....an Alpha state?
I'd give MXO a go, although I don't think that really survived to grow out of its "vanilla" stage.
I'd play AA if as a sub game with no cash shop.
I'd play DAOC vanilla-ish. I'm pretty sure I enjoyed it for an expac or two.
I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.

Returning to Vanilla WoW would just be a frustrating experience. WoW is a better game today than it was at launch.
When someone creates an exact likeness (or almost exact copy) of a Masterpiece such as a Painting, the copy is considered a Forgery. It is a crime just to create a Forgery of an Art form in some countries, regardless of whether or not someone tries to sell it or pass it off as the real item.
When it comes to MMORPGs and similar I follow that line of thinking in regards to "those games". I consider MMORPGs Art Forms. I consider all "copies" of previous MMORPGs not coded by the original owners/devs (or current copywrite holders) to be forgeries, and as such I see them as either quasi-legal or illegal, and on that basis I won't utilize "servers out there dedicated, to those games" as you describe them. To me it soes not matter that many times there is no profit being made from these "games", to me it's not about money or profit, it's about who should have the right to recreate what has been created before, and to me that right belongs to the Copywrite/IP holders.
For some Players your suggestion is an opportunity, for myself and others that see this issue they way I do, it is a dead end street.

In regards to OP's question, I would love to see more Vanilla servers (Progression Servers) of some of the old MMORPGs opened up, I would subscribe to them, but I think we have seen the ones we are going to see, I don't think any new ones will be opening up anymore now that this genre is on the "downhill slide of the sinewave".
