I just wanted to ask what your plan was for pointless pets. In current games I play it seems that pets that follow people are out of control (digital cat lady syndrome lol). I totally understand if a certain class gets a pet if they charm an animal and it's useful in combat or something but nowadays you have this hoard of pointless pets that follow people around cluttering everything. It just looks ridiculous imo.
What do you guys think that are following this games development?
Pointless pets yay
Pointless pets nay

I would personally hope we can limit or even totally eliminate purposeless pets. Along with that anything like bunny ears or sunglasses I hope would be out of the question as well.
Edit: I'm strictly speaking about vanity pets here. I fully expect to see pet type classes.
I personally have never liked vanity pets (always try to delete them when a game gives them out) but some people do like the whole "beast master" thing.
So yeah, I suppose if the class utilizes pets (aka beast master) then sure but otherwise limit people to one at at a time.

I hate stuff like vanity pets, but people LOVE to collect stuff. It drives me mad, esp the whole achievement obsession - I wish that had never been introduced into gaming.
Like I said though, I'm pretty sure I'm in a very very tiny minority on this as it seems common for people to collect this stuff.
I HATE vanity pets.
I am fine with pets for combat or for a specific class that uses them but out side of that they shit me to tears.
If done a certain way.. Sure.
Say you have a Falcon as a pet that stands on your shoulders as you stand still or flies beside you as you move around but when you enter combat it flies up and out of the way and when combat is over it lands back on your shoulder.
Pets should be limited much like ArtificeVenatus says.
Personally I can't stand vanity items, so I'd vote a big NAY on vanity pets!

Limited powerful combat pets are fine with me, but vanity pets have never been something I cared about. Not only do I not care about them, but I view them as a pointless annoyance.
Leave that type of stuff for the people that like games like WoW.
Personally, I don't like Vanity pets either!
I don't mind combat pets for combat classes like Necromancers, Shaman etc. (only limited classes though) but I really dislike anything Vanity, especially little fluffy pets following people around making the odd noise or doing the odd animation.
I believe that your armour, weapons, pets etc. should be earned and worn with pride, even if they are rusted or rags.
Here! Here! And the kingdom rejoiced.
Nay on Vanity Pets. And I would take it a step further as well that if mounts are ultimately introduced - Nay on 10,000 types of mounts.
While I personally don't enjoy vanity pets, I can understand that others do.
It's not a feature that affects advancement or difficulty, and if collecting vanity pets makes someone else happy .....

I am with you on this too mate, I am old school when it comes to mounts, I would like a couple of variations of a horse and make them hard to get, cost money to feed and look after and allow them to be killed if neglected or mistreated (taken into battle), then they will be much more important and valuable than just a pixel you click in your bag to get somewhere slightly faster!
That may be too hardcore for some people but that is a system I would personally like
For fluff items for people who like collecting, we could implement tiny flowers scattered around the world that they could collect and show off in their hats (lore friendly colour and small in size) or houses and allow them to be ground into powders to use in dyes or something for crafting lol
Heck, if we include horses in the pet category, I would disapprove of those as well. Especially if they can out run the mobs in the area. I could see people just running past mobs not having a care in the world about them, and at the same time making the world feel much smaller than it is.
I know its going a little off topic, but I have seldom liked mounts in mmorpgs. The only exception for this was Darkfall where the world was huge and your mount could be killed or stolen. Anything that allows players to easily circumvent the dangers of the wild is better off not existing.
If mounts exist in Pantheon I'd like to see gameplay surrounding them, and risk involved with the reward of having them. If you use one it should be susceptible to death. Perhaps a stablemaster in a town could restore them to health like in AA, or maybe their death is permanent. I've also always loved the idea of taming wild animals and breeding mounts as a form of sandbox gameplay. That of course may be beyond the current scope of Pantheon though. Either way, I don't think mounts should just be included the way they are currently being used in MMOs; simply as another way to speed up and trivialize the game.
I completely agree with your statements here Dullahan. If mounts have a risk vs reward built into them... then I could definitely see them having a place in a game like EQ, though I really liked the idea of depending on others for my travel needs.
Leave the vanity pets for the F2P themeparks, not seeing crap like this is why I rather just pay the subscription fee.
Having a big scary Death Knight walk around with a tophat and a Corgi is so immersion breaking it's beyond words. It's sad the extent players will go to be noticed. Go play 2nd life.....
I would definitely agree here. Those types of accessories don't belong in a game like this in my personal opinion. I'm not playing Hello Kitty... lol
I think the plethora of pointless pets is primarily a side effect of the F2P phenomena. Vanity pets are something you can sell people that don't have any effect on the power of their character and thus do not affect game balance. Having said that, one the perks for contributing to the game now is a vanity pet. Lol. I prefer that things in general be earned, but I understand the reason for them. Perhaps they could be limited so that they only are used in some places like in or near cities.
As for mounts, that is probably a big enough can of worms to have it's own thread. At the very least give me a toggle so I can turn them all off...
(talking about all the "other" games out there)
